Under 8 Colts 0 Cwrt Herbert Blacks 6
Saron began the match with Garin in goal, Thomas & Ioan in defense. Midfield was Rhys, Carwyn and Dafydd. Sean (Capt.) and Ben were the strikers. Despite soaking up Cwrt Herbert pressure they let in 3 goals before half time. Second half substitutions were Rhys Shaw and Connor who maintained the team’s defense, even though Sean had a strike at goal. Cwrt Herbert was too strong and won the game 6-0. Best wishes go to Nathaniel who broke his arm in training earlier in the week.
Saron
Under 9’s 1 Resolven 2
Sept 8th 2007
Saron
began the match with a controlled 1st half; a precision cross by Luke
Morgan created a smooth goal for Curtis Jones. A solid defense denied Resolven a
goal in the 1st half. In the 2nd half Llion Langford held
the opposition off until the last 10 minutes when Resolven slipped 2 goals
passed the keeper. Despite a 2nd shot by Curtis which hit the post,
the final result was 2-1 to Resolven. Man of the Match was Saron’s Jed Danter.
A positive start to a team with new coach Darrn Dowley.
Saron
Juniors Under 11’s 4
Pontardawe Whites 0
This was a cracking start to the season for the Saron Monsters who looked completely in control in the 1st half with Jamie “ The Boot” controlling and wining a lot of the ball in the middle for Saron allowing Rhys “Zebede” and Cory “The Hitman” to threaten the Ponty defense time after time and it wasn’t long before Saron opened the scoring “The Hitman” finished off a brilliant cross from “Zebede” 1-0 to Saron. It wasn’t long before “Zebede” doubled Saron’s lead with a cracker 2-0. Saron’s defense of Cellan “Kitty” and Kyran “Woody” were rarely troubled but worked hard when called upon along with this seasons Captain Liam “Shotstopper” in goals not letting anything past him. Saron were always a threat going forward as Steffan “Goal Machine” Morris grew more into the game Ponty managed to fight off a long period of pressure from Saron conceding corner after corner good delivery from “The Boot” and “Zebede” a huge threat in the air going close on a few occasions but today was “The Hitmans “ day proving he was to hot to handle slotting his 2nd and Saron’s third 3-0 half time.
Saron made several changes for the 2nd half but still looked in command in midfield with Vice Captain Cameron “Cartwheel” proving a huge threat down the left wing but Saron failed to finish their chances and Ponty upping the tempo as much as possible, but Saron’s defense of Ryan & Steffan Davies coped well with Steffan “Statman” not letting anything passed him either, soon Saron began to turn the screw in the last 5 mins of the game with Jarred “Captain Caveman” going close on several occasions but their keeper denied him or the shots were going just wide but it was Iwan “Pitbull” Norrie who notched up Saron’s only goal of the half after two searing runs and an endless work rate he found the back of the net 4-0 to Saron and that’s how it ended. Today’s players of the match were “The Hitman” and “Zebede” for their first half performance.
Pontardawe
U15's 1 v 2 Saron U15's Sept 12th 2007
This was a flat performance from Saron who are getting their play together with a lot of new players blending into the Team. Rhys, Chris ,Jack and Scott were all solid in the defence and untroubled for most of the match. Saron finally scored when a great through ball from Sam Jordan found Nathaniel Butler who blasted past the Ponty keeper. Saron made hard work of it after that despite good work from Kyle, Steffan'Schevchenko' Howells, Nathan and Steffan 'Rocky' Howells. A second goal finally came from Daniel Davison with a brilliant shot past the keeper. In the second half Ponty pressed forward with some neat football but Saron still had many chances with Joseff and Gareth coming close .Alex Hurlow was untroubled in goal only beaten when the Ponty striker broke through the off-side trap.

Saron
United (U10) 8 – 0 Rhos Rangers
(U10) Sept 15th 2007
Saron began
brightly putting the home team under pressure from the kick off.
This constant pressure finally told in the 3rd minute when
Kieran Wilson scored from a high shot.
Rhos 5 Saron Under
10s 2 Sept 15th 2007
Saron traveled to Rhos for the first
game of the season without two of their key players and came up against a well -
drilled Rhos. The home side didn’t take long to go two nil up.
Saron kept their heads up and were rewarded when a good through ball by Ethan
Daniel found Sam Jones who put it safely in the back of the net. However, Rhos
soon scored a further two well worked goals taking the score to 4 – 1. Saron
continued fighting and narrowed the gap when Owain Jones headed a corner ball
into the back of the net. It
was some stern tackling in defense by Nathan Evans and Matthew Walters and some
cracking saves by goalie Harry Criddle that kept the score down to 4- 2 at the
break. The second half was much like the first with Alex Laius and Ethan in
mid-field combining well to provide strikers Grant Stamp and Sam with some
quality ball which put the home side under pressure. Evan Hall came on in the
second half and produced some fine saves. However, it was not to be Saron’s
day as Rhos scored a final goal to run in deserved winners at 5-2. Nathan Evans
was named man of the match for Saron for his strong defensive performance.
Saron Juniors Under 11's 1 Rhos Rovers 2 Sept 15th 2007
The
saron monsters were asleep for the first 10 mins of this match conceding 2 early goals which seemed to wake them up some goodperformances from Ryan, Stefan Davies and liam "shotstopper" at the
back for saron kept them in the game which included a fantastic off the line clearance by Ryan ,Corey" the hitman"worked hard down the left
alongside Jamie" the boot" and Cameron "cartwheel" on the right. but it was Rhys "zebedee" who halved the defecate for the monsters
with a cracker of a goal and it was "zebedee" moments later who went on acracking run ant put in perfect cross for Stefan "goalmachine" to put
away along with several other players in the box but amazingly they all
missed and so saron were still 2-1 down at half time. Start of the second half saw the monsters make changes with Scott "stepover", cellan "kitty" and kyran "woody"
coming into the action yet againthere was some solid defending at the back for saron with some heroic
tackling from "kitty"
Sarons midfield drifted in and out of the game and failing to challenge for the high ball on occasions, "zebedee" was still a threat
for saron linking well with "stepover" ,saron kept the rhos
keeper
busy in the second half but he was stopping everything keeping the scoreline as it was and not for want of trying from the saron monsters
this was one game saron were not going to win.
today's players of the match were Ryan and cellan for their efforts in defense.
In very difficult wet and windy conditions Saron kept the Bryncoch attack in check with Harry,Carl and Hugh making good tackles to protect Ryan in goal who made several excellent saves.Bryncoch took the lead but live wire Kieran Duffin equalized with a well taken shot after good work from Steffan and Daniel in midfield. In the second half Saron were in control with Rhys 'Rico' and Ethan coming close with fierce shots the Bryn keeper did well to save.Joshua,Peter and Ishtar kept working hard in midfield and Kieran then scored a great second goal for Saron. Dewi, Connor,Sion and Ishtar also played well for Saron before Kieran rounded off a fine performance with his third goal. Man of the Match awards went to Dexter Thomas for his overall outstanding play and Kieran Duffin who was the hat-trick hero.
Saron Under 8 Colts 2 Bryn Rovers 3 Sept 22nd 2007
A very exciting game with both sides gaining much possession and passing the ball around the field. Sean Howells scored 2 and there were many more attempts at goal, unfortunately Bryn Rovers took the lead with a last minute goal. A much improved performance by the Colts well done.
Saron Under 8’s were on top form with a resounding 4-0 victory at Glynneath. Saron were strong from the start with all players giving 100%, Four cracking goals were scored by Tomos, Emyr, Dylan and Osian. Man of the match was Dylan Lewis.
Last weeks result was Saron 0 Pontardawe 1 And the man of the match went to Connor Walters.
Saron Under 10’S v Ponty Reds Sept 22nd 2007
Saron were certainly up for
this their first home match of the season and produced some spectacular football
throughout. They pressurized the visitors straight from the off and were rewarded with an early goal from striker Sam Jones. Most of the match was
played in the Ponty half and when the visitors did manage to get the ball down
field they were met with the formidable defensive trio of Matthew Walters, Nathan Evans and Owain
Jones, who quickly and clinically took the ball off the visitors at every
opportunity, shunting it back down field. Goalie Evan Hall was also in fine form and made safe the few balls
that got though to him. Some nifty footwork between Alex Laius in midfield and
Grant Stamp up front created space for Arran Butler to find the target. To further goals from Sam in
this half took the score to 4 – 0 to the home side.
The second half started much as the first with Saron dominating throughout.
Ethan Daniel came on to pair up with Alex in midfield and Harry Criddle took
over the goalie’s responsibilities. The heavy rain did little to dampen Saron’s spirits as they
continued to play some excellent football. Sam Jones produced a fantastic goal,
which would not have been out of place in the Premiership - he completely split Ponty’s defense
from the half way line and ended with a cracking shot. Another two goals in this
half from Ethan and Arran sealed Ponty’s fate. Saron couldn’t complain with the final score of 7
– 0, however if it were not for many missed opportunities by the home side
they could have scored many more goals. Matthew Walters and Grant Stamp were named men of the match for Saron for their
fine performances in defense and up front respectively.
Saron
United (U10) 0
- 2 Bryncoch
Yellows (U10)
Bryncoch began
the brighter and immediately put Saron under pressure.
Despite some heroic defending from Jordan Pavey and Will Treharne the
deadlock was broken in the early minutes when Bryncoch scored directly from a
corner.
Saron U11s 1 Bryncoch Yellows 4 Sept 22nd 2007
This was a poor result for saron who
started off brightly creatingchances through their midfield of cameron "cartwheel"
,iwan " easy" eastonand iwan "pit bull" norrie but the strike partnership of
scott "stepover" and rhys "zebedee" not quite getting the finishing touch slowly thegame started to slip away from saron as bryncoch grew in confidence and
putting sarons back 3 of ryan, keiran "woody" and keeper
liam "shotstopper" under immense pressure finally it told in the last
5 minutes of the 1`sthalf 2 soft goals for bryncoch 2-0 at the break. 2`nd half saw saron ring the changes with the introduction of corey
"the hitman" ,jamie "the boot" and new boy dion in midfield,
steffan "goalmachine" and jarred "capt.caveman" up front and steffan davies
in defence with stefan "the statman" in goals but it made no difference
apart from make bryncoch look better by the minute who went on to score 2 more easy goals there was a catalogue of mistakes from the saron
midfield throughout the 2`nd half they managed to string together 1 attack towards the end which resulted in a consolation goal for "the
goal machine" 4-1 to bryncoch at the end if it wasn't for sarons keepers "shotstopper"
and "the statman" the score line could have been
much worse so this weeks men of the match goes to the keepers.
Briton
Ferry U13's 2 v 3 Saron U13's Sept 22nd
Saron continued with another win on their travels after Ethan Walters scored two great goals to give Saron a dream start. The Saron defense was again strong with Dexter, Hugh,Harry and Carl blocking many shots time after time. Steffan, Josh, and Peter were excellent in midfield and Briton Ferry pressure resulted in a goal just before half time. Saron then re-grouped and score a third after Connor Thomas blasted past the helpless Ferry keeper after good work from Kieran and Rhys 'Rico'. A tough last ten minutes was in place as Ferry scored a second but Ryan Lynch in goal pulled off some outstanding saves to keep them in front. Sion Allen had a great game up front but Man of the Match award went to Daniel Brown who was tireless in midfield.
This was a much improved performance from the Saron boys with the defense of Chris,Rhys,Jack and Scott blending together very well. Liam Woolley was outstanding in goal for Saron pulling off some great saves and getting the defense organised.Alex Hurlow had a great game in midfield proving what an asset he is when playing out of goal. Sam, Kyle, Nathan and Tommy put in solid tackles through the game with Cimla applying the pressure. Half time was goalless and the second half began with Joseff,Daniel Madge and Nathaniel causing problem for the Cimla defense. The deadlock was broken when Nathaniel Butler broke through and slotted the ball neatly passed the Cimla keeper. Steffan' Schevchenko' and Steffan 'Rocky' both put in another pleasing performances.
Saron
Colts 5 Cwmamman 3 Wednesday
26-09-07
Saron Colts
started the game very brightly with a quick goal from Rhys Davies, Saron kept up
the pressure with two well taken goals from Carwyn Morris, with Dyfan and Thomas
defending well. Second half saw Cwmamman come back with two goals, and then
Benjamin Morgan extended the colts lead by beating the goalkeeper to the ball
and put it over the line. Cwmamman came back again with a quick goal, but Saron
were to strong at the end with a long-range shot from Sean Howells. Well-done
boys on your first win.
Pontardawe
Blacks 0 Saron Colts
2 Saturday 29-09-07
Following a friendly midweek win Saron won again. A few good saves from Garin in the first few minutes. Saron kept pushing for goals at the end of the first half but Ponty’s defense was too strong. The attack continued and a cross from Carwyn was scored by Sean who doubled their lead with 5 minutes to go which resulted in another good win. Keep it up boys.
Rhos
1 Saron Under 8’s 6
Saturday 29-09-07
Saron still
flying high with this their first back to back win. Gavin scored within minutes
of the start, Tomos a second and Osian a third from a Dylan corner. Rhos pulled
one back by half time. Saron dominated the second half with a goal from Emyr and
a further two from Gavin making his hat trick. Man of the match went to Gavin.
Saron
under 9’s 3 Bryncoch Yellows 3 Saturday 29-09-07
A good result for Saron, Bryncoch took an early lead despite several good saves from keeper Dion Longford. Curtis Jones soon equalised with a great goal after some good work from Kieran Walters and Jed Danter in midfield. Megan Longford kept battling for Saron and it paid off when a long pass to tom brook who crossed to Curtis who scored for Sarons second goal.
Second half 3-2
down Sarons defense of Jack “brickwall” Phillips and Dion Rees Harris were
determined not to let another goal opportunity arise, a strong tackle by Jack
Phillips created a lovely opportunity for Kieran to cross the ball to tom who
sealed the goal seconds before the final whistle. Man of the match went to
Curtis Jones.
Saron
United (u10) 1 -
2 Cimla United
(u10) Saturday 29-09-07
For the second week running Saron began the game slower than their opponents and this resulted in the gift of an early goal for the opposition. In fact if it wasn’t for the dynamic defending of will Treharne it could have been much worse. Saron eventually rode the storm and began to get them into the game, thereby, putting pressure on Cimla and forcing their keeper to make some fine saves. This constant pressure told when Kieran Wilson picked up a loose ball on the edge of Cimla box and thundered a shot into the top corner. Saron should have built upon this equalizer but they were then hit with a sucker punch and Cimla scored a breakaway away goal against the run of play. Saron went into the break 2.1 down. In the second half Saron again applied constant pressure and with Tim Chapman supplying the crosses they created many goal-scoring chances. But with a combination of cimla defending well and Saron missing golden opportunities, the best of those falling to Jordan Pavey, they failed to find that equalizer, and undeservedly lost the game 2-1.
Saron U11`s 1-0 St. Davids Boys Club Saturday 29/09/07
Saron were pumped up and
ready to put things back on track after the below par display of the last couple
of games the monsters started brightly by taking the game to st.davids with
jamie"the boot",corey"the hitman"and new boy josh giving it
everything they had creating chances,
space and crunching tackles in the midfield which gave steffan"goal
machine” a good platform to attack and give st.davids defence and keeper a
hard time unfortunately not converting the chances and leaving st.davids of the
hook. At the back saron were controlled in defence with ryan” the major"
directing everything, keiran"woody"defending well and stefan” the
statman" leaving nothing in, 1or 2 unsavoury incidents crept into the game
which spoilt it for both sets of players but saron soon got back to business
with "the boot” going close with an effort from outside the area he also
came up trumps with two perfectly waited corners and some excellent heading from
"hitman" almost put saron two up but for the st. Davids keeper, two
long range goal kicks from "the statman"put
"goalmachine"in acres of space the first he sliced with his left the
second he went round the defence and the keeper but just put it outside the post
it just wasn’t his day 0-0 at half time. Saron made 6 changes at half time
which took the game to a different level after everyone had calmed down after
the 1`st half liam "shotstopper" went into goals with
cellan"kitty" in defence rhys" zebedee"onthe left with
iwan"easy" in the middle iwan"pit bull"on the right and
scott"stepover"up front saron were proving to be too much for the
opposition mid field with "easy" controlling things "pit
bull" proving too hot too handle but the st.davids defence and keeper were
stopping everything and not for want of trying from saron ,"stepover"
was linking well with the mid field and"zebedee" growing in confidence
as the game went on "pit bull" sent 1 wide and another over the bar
,"stepover" ,"zebedee"and"easy" had 1 each stopped
by the keeper then st.Davids went on a bit of a purple patch with saron
conceding a number of corners in succession but they were dealt proficiently by
saron and they started to turn the screw again with 2 minutes to go "pit
bull"went on a trademark blistering run got in behind the defence and
finally put saron out of their misery1-0 to saron and that’s how the game
ended, this weeks men of the match were "the boot" for his all round
physical display and"pitbull"for proving that life on the right wing
is good.
Penrhos U13's
0 v 7 Saron U13's Saturday 29/9/2007
Saron started slowly in this game and Ryan Lynch was called into action quickly to deny the Penrhos attack to take the lead. Saron made the break through when Rhys ' rico' Page-Walker opened up with his first goal of four with a brilliant shot that the keeper could not stop. Harry Brook scored two goals, one of which was a fierce volley .half time saw Saron with a four goal lead and the defense of Rhys, Hugh, Carl and Dewi determined to keep a clean sheet. Carl Morris scored a brilliant individual goal from just inside the Penrhos half when he blasted a high shot over the keeper. Sion, Kieran and Connor played important roles in midfield setting up Rico for several chances as he broke clear and could have scored even more goals hitting the cross bar at least twice. Steffan Rees had another strong game in midfield dominating most of the play for Saron. A pleasing result by all the boys who played some excellent entertaining football.
Sunday 30`th Sept 2007
Saron
U11`s
Camford `A ` 1-2 Saron Greens
Camford `B` 4-1
Saron Yellows
The
Saron monsters formed two teams for this match up with camford
Saron "greens" and Saron "yellows”, the greens were the more
experienced
side and were matched up against camfords more experienced side the
greens gave gooc account of themselves looking to be far the more
dominant side holding a 1-0 lead thanks to rhys"zebedee" goal up
to the
3`rd quarter but a freak goal by camford Stefan” the statman" diving for
a low struck shot he had it comfortably covered when the ball struck a
marker cone marking the goal area bounced up and went in the top corner
1-1 going into the last quarter the greens turned it on during this
quarter creating chance after chance eventually pressure told when
camford failed to clear the ball past halfway the ball was sent backing
by super sub aaron butler where Corey” the hitman" finished it off with
clinical precision 2-1 to the greens.
The yellows were made up of some less experienced players didn’t fare as
well where some of the new players inexperience told and unfortunately
weighed heavy on the stronger players in the teams shoulders they
started brightly enough with the first ten minutes it was all yellows
but just missing that finsl touch to create that goal scoring
opportunity, then against the run of play camford scored a cracker 1-0.
Second third saw the yellows slip even further and the inexperience
start to really become the difference conceding 2 soft goals 3-0 to
camford, the last third saw the yellows start to move the ball starting
to create chances with scott"stepover" finishing off a god move by the
yellows 3-1 to camford, jamie"the boot” went close with a dipping long
range effort forcing the camford keeper to tip it over the bar and then
he delivered yet another perfectly weighted corner which caused total
confusion in the camford defence but the yellows failed to put it away
steffan"goal machine" went close with an effort ,then camford
delivered
the sucker punch with a goal from a corner a player unmarked at the
back post game finished 4-1 to camford .
Today’s squads were: -
The Greens
Stefan Butler, Aaron Butler, Keiran Norrie, Cellan liiv, Iwan Norrie, Iwan
Easton, Corey Brotherwood, Rhys Burch
The Yellows
Liam Jones, Ryan jones, Dion Bale, Josh Davies, Jamie long, Steffan Morris,
Scott Howells.
Saron Under 8 Colts 0 Glynneath 5 Saturday 6/10/07
The Colts started off very strongly with Garin making some fine saves in goal, and Dyfan & Rhys Shaw Davies defending well in the first half, but Glynneath kept pressurising and they took an early lead. Carwyn and Rhys Daves and Sean played well in midfield and a welcome return to Nathaniel Harris (after braking his arm) who played well up front. Glynneath were too strong for the young Colts who eventually lost 5-0.
Against the run of play, with Osian and Ffion doing a great job controlling the midfield Pontardawe were the first to score, Saron however continued to press forward and a nicely weighted cross from Jac allowed Tomos to equalise.Despite having 80% possession and a second goal from Gavin Saron couldn’t turn possession into goals and ran out 3-2 losers to Pontardawe in a very entertaining match. Man of the match went to Osian.
Saron
Under 9’s 5 Clydach Cougars 0 Saturday 06/10/07
Saron Under 9’s hard work and determination paid off this week with Curtis Jones scoring the first goal early in the first half, despite the Cougars efforts the strong defence of Alex Vaughn, Jack Phillips and Dion Rees Thomas stopping the Cougars in their tracks preventing a single shot on goal. Keeping the same pressure up in the second half Luke Morgan despite an array of shots on goal couldn’t capitalise but some neat passing to C J created the next two goals. Megan Longford soon came on and with some speedy tackling and quick passing enabled Kieran Walters to score a goal. The final goal came after Tom Brook skilfully crossed to C J sealing goal number 5 and the forth for Curtis Jones. Man of the match went to Luke Morgan.
Saron United (U10) 6 Pontardawe Reds (U10) 0 06/10/07
Saron dominated possession from the kick-off but wasted their chances in front of goal. The Ponty defense then finally conceded to a Kieran Wilson goal. This was quickly followed by a Liam Jeffrey’s strike from outside of the box and just before the break the Will Treharne scored a header direct from a corner. Ponty had their chances to score but Saron went into half time 3-0 up thanks to defender Morgan Phillips’ tackling and some brave saves from the their goalie Sean Lloyd. In the second half Saron played some lovely football and with Kieran Norrie supplying the crosses striker Jordan Pavey netted twice both from headers. Then deservedly so Kieran Norrie got his goal as he slotted home a Jordan Pavey header
Bryncoch Blacks 0 Saron Under 10’s 15 Saturday 06/10/07
Saron had complete control of this
game straight from the off, scoring the first goal in the first few seconds. The
goals came thick and fast and by half time Saron were seven goals up. The second
half was much the same and with Saron completely dominating the game there was
little the home team could do. Another 8 goals in this half took the score line
to 0 – 15. Saron did little wrong throughout with excellent defending,
fantastic midfield play and good finishing. Goal scorers for the game were
Captain Aaron Butler leading by example throughout and scoring 6, Sam Jones -2,
Ethan Daniels – 2, Grant Stamp – 3, Owain Jones – 1 and Steffan Ingram
Jones – 1.
The whole team were named men of the match for the first class team performance.
With 22 goals scored in the last 2 games and none conceded Saron look pretty
unstoppable at the moment.
After a very nervous start and at times desperate defending. Saron finally grew into the game and created pressure in the Britton Ferry half which lead to a corner taken by Rhys 'rico' Page-Walker and converted by Conner Thomas who rose like a salmon and nodded in at the far post. Britton Ferry came back strong back saron held there ground marshalled by Dexter Thomas and backed up by his partner in crime Hugh Conway. When they did get past there was Ryan 'the taz' Lynch to continue his excellent form. The scores were level at half time and 15 mins into the second half we fell behind 2-1, Dan, Carl, Peter, Rhys and Harry all running there socks off and some strong tackling by Josh and Ishtar all looked to be in vain. Until the last minute where Sion chased a lost cause won a free kick. Stood over it was Steff, all the boys had made there way into the box, There were even calls for Ryan !!!!!. In it went to the far post where Rico flicked it in from the most impossible angle. Not a vintage performance but a great point none the less. Special praise to Dewi who never stopped running, tackled back and never gave up Man of the Match.
Sunnybank U15’s 0
Saron U15's 3 Saturday 06/10/07
Saron made the
trip to Sunnybank with a strong squad and took the lead after five minutes when
Jack played a ball through to Arwel who then crossed for Steffan 'Shevchenko'
Howells to fire home brilliantly. Saron were solid in defence with Chris, Rhys,
and Scott having good games. In midfield Kyle, Sam, Alex and Danny combined well
to set up Arwel Rees to fire Saron's second. Half time saw Saron make a few
changes and Nathan Chapman scored straight from the kick off with a fierce
strike that the Sunnybank keeper could not stop. Liam Woolley was untroubled in
goal while Daniel Madge and Steffan ' Rocky' Howells kept on creating chances up
front. Next week Saron entertain Tonna in the cup.
Bryncoch
Yellows 5 Saron Colts 0 Saturday 13/10/07
Saron
started slowly against a much bigger and stronger opposition conceding two early
goals. Saron soon got back on track competing well for every challenge in
midfield. Garin was unlucky to concede a 3rd despite a great effort
in goal and Carwyn was popping up in his usual manner both in defence and
midfield with some crucial challenges.
Despite some mean defence work and some skillfull midfielding Saron were 4 –0 down at half time. However Saron hit back with several attempts on goal but the Cwmamman keeper shrugged off each one. The quick reactions of the Saron defence and superb saves of man of the match Dion Rees Harris caused endless problems for the Cwm to score in the second half
Saron Under 10s 3 Vs Cimla Under 10s 2 Saturday 13/10/07
Saron
were immediately put under pressure from a well-drilled Cimla side and despite
some desperate defending, it wasn’t long until Saron went 1-0 down. Aaron
Butler and Steffan Ingram Jones fought well in midfield and Nathan Evans and
Owain Jones in defence together with Evan Hall in goal kept the away team at bay
with some fine tackles and great saves respectively. Saron come out in the
second half with renewed focus, and following some good attacking moves were
rewarded with a quick goal by Grant Stamp. Cimla responded and went 1-2 up.
Saron were determined to keep their winning run and following another great goal
by Grant the game was equal. Saron dug deep for the remainder of the game, Alex
Laius and Matthew Walters brought some fresh legs to mid-field and defence and
Harri Criddle in goal prevented further goals for the visitors. In the closing
moments of the game one final push from Saron saw Ethan Daniels finding the back
of the net following a cracking crossed ball from Aaron. This was an excellent
win for Saron against a good opponent, showing the boys’ determination and
grit to come back and win the game after being behind twice.
Grant Stamp and Nathan Evans were named men of the match for Saron.
With a cagey start from Saron they found themselves under siege and conceded two early goals and if it were not for the brave keeping from Seon Lloyd they would have conceded more. Eventually Saron settled down and played some nice passing moves involving Matthew Howell and Rhys Price, one such move resulting in Tim Chapman running through to slot the ball past the Glynneath keeper. Unfortunately a lapse in concentration meant Glynneath squeezed home a scrambled third goal just before the break.Second half changes saw Saron begin to dominate and there were many goal scoring chances falling to several players before Tim Chapman scored his second of the day. Saron were relentless in their attacks but wave after wave failed to produce that equalizer until with a few minutes to go Kieran Wilson scored from a deflected shot on the edge of the box to make it 3-3. A draw would have been the very least Saron deserved but sadly the equalizer went to their heads and virtually the whole team were then involved in the search for that winning goal resulting in them being caught out at the back and Glynneath scored their fourth goal to win the match 4-3.
The
final score of this West Glamorgan Cup first round match did not reflect the
balance of play. Poor finishing and a good display from the Tonna keeper ensured
Saron were goalless.
Saron U15's

Tonna
actually took the lead against Saron after 5 minutes but Saron hit back with
Nathaniel finishing off a good move. Saron then took the lead with Tommy
firing home. The Defence of Chris, Jack, Scott and Joseff stayed solid
throughout the game and helped set up an own goal which put Saron
further ahead. Half time Saron were 3-1 up. Saron improved their
performance in the second half with the midfield of Sam, Arwel, Steffan
'Shevchenko' Howells and Nathan battling hard to help Matthew to
score a hat-trick on his debut. Kyle increased the score with two good finishes
and Tommy increased his goal tally to two in the game. Liam was untroubled in
goal throughout the game. A few changes were made and good work
from Daniel Madge and Danny set up Steffan 'Rocky' Howells to score his first of
the season. Next week Saron entertain Tonna once again in the League.
Saron Under 8 Colts 0 Rhos Rangers 7 Saturday 20/10/07
Rhos started
strongly, Saron Colts did well in defense absorbing early pressurefrom the
visitors, some excellent tackling from Osian and Dyfan in defenseand good saves
from goalkeeper Garin kept the visitors out.Saron started putting some passes
together in midfield between Carwyn, Sean and Rhys, this led to a move through
the center of the field with Rhys making a break down the left hand side,
despite some robust defending he managed a good shot which just went wide of the
left hand post. Rhos then found their earlier rhythm again, putting together a
good move down the right hand side of the field which resulted in their opening
goal. This gave the visitors more confidence and some good interpassing saw them
take command of the game, scoring their second third and fourth goals. Just
before half time Rhos went further ahead with an excellent length of the field
move. Half time Saron Colts 0 Rhos 5. Coach Damon again used his rota system and
some inspirational words meant Saron started the second half with more
confidence attacking and defending well. Rhos took possession though and scored
a goal with a fine shot from far on the right finding the left hand corner of
the Saron goal. A final effort from Rhos brought the score at the end of
the match to 7 - 0. Despite the scorline this was again a great effort
from the young Saron team, well done.
Saron Under 8’s 3 Bryncoch Yellows 3 Saturday 20/10/07
This was a game of wasted opportunities by Saron, who showed only glimpses of the skill they have in previous matches. They spent the entire game playing catch up to a very skilful and opportunistic Bryncoch side, who scored two of their three goals from 20 yards out. It was down to Mr. Reliable Tomos Raymond to equalize twice for Saron. A third very cleverly worked goal by Dylan made it all square at the end. Man of the match was Tomos Raymond
Saron U10’s
0 Cwrt Herbert 3 Saturday 20/10/07
These well-matched sides
made for a fast paced nail-biting match, which was a treat for the spectators.
Both sides produced some fine football throughout the match and created many opportunities. The difference between the two being that Cwrt Herbert took
their chances whereas Saron just couldn’t, and despite many near misses by
Aoron, Ethan and Sam, the home side failed to put any points on the scoreboard. Special mention this week must go to Harri Criddle and Evan Hall – Saron’s
goalies who, due to key players being unable to play, took up positions in
defence and did a fine job.
Resolven Under 11s 1 Saron Under 11s 2 Saturday 20/10/07
The
score line does not reflect the game at all saron were totally dominant
throughout this match but during the first half they became more and more
frustrated looking for that opening goal there was some excellent build up play
through sarons midfield of Josh, Iwan "easy" and Corey” the hitman"
and linking well with the newly formed strike partnership of Jarred "Capt. caveman"
and Jamie” the boot”. Sarons finishing was letting them down in this half
because they were all trying too hard to get the opening goal with shot after
shot going wide, going over the bar or going straight to the keeper if they had
relaxed just a little i'm sure the opening goal would have soon appeared Sarons defense
were rarely troubled with Ryan” the major" and Steffen Davies cutting out
most of the Resolven attacks virtually on the half way Stefan” the statman"
only had two simple saves to make throughout the first half which finished
amazingly 0-0.
Second half saw Saron field a completely different side with Cameron
"cartwheel”, Iwan "pitbull", Steffen "goalmachine",
Scott "stepover", Cellan"kitty", Keiran "woody"
and Liam” shot stopper" and Saron played exactly the same with great
approach work and really making the Resolven keeper work his socks of he was
making save after save it looked like saron were never going to score then up
popped Cartwheel with a cool finish at the back post to settle everyone’s
nerves .the shots were now pummeling the Resolven keeper but to his credit he
kept stopping them until he got injured and had to go off but even his
replacement was having a good day until the goalmachine put a cracker of a shot
in 2-0 to Saron, but in the last minute of the game Saron conceded a free kick
which was taken quickly and Sarons back three were in a world of their own and
conceded a soft goal 2-1 at the end this game, should have been a cricket
score but for the Resolven keeper.
Today’s man of the match goes to Iwan "easy" and Cameron "cartwheel" for their endless work rate.
Saron
Colts 0 Cimla United 7
27/10/07
Saron
Colts had their first experience of playing in the wet on Saturday, and wet it
was!
Saron
went a goal down within minutes of the start, and it took them sometime to
regain their composure and play football. It was a very even match with both
teams showing plenty of skill and robust commitment. With the ball going
end-to-end Sarons goalkeepers had to be on top form, and they didn’t
disappoint. In the first half Andrew Long held onto a bullet of a shot having
held it he put the ball straight back into play before sinking to his knees
absolutely winded! This save brought applause from both sets of supporters and
was well deserved.
After
going 1-0 down Saron played with great enthusiasm and Will Treharne was again
warrior like in his defensive duties. This enthusiasm resulted in a well-taken
goal from Tim Chapman to level the scores. Some slack marking provided Lonlas a
second goal from a headed corner kick.
The
final score line flattered Penrhos and were it not for the performance of their
keeper; Saron could have won this match.
Glynneath
U'15's 5 Saron U'15's 4
27/10/07
Saron started
badly in this game with Glynneath scoring three in quick succession. Saron
didn't give up and came back with Nathaniel firing home after good
work in the midfield from Matt, Steffan 'Shevchenko' Howells, Alex Reed and
Tommy. Good efforts in defence from Sam, Jack, Joseff, Rhys and Goalkeeper Alex
Hurlow prevented Glynneath from scoring more goals. The Second
Half started with Saron 3-1 down. It didn't help when Glynneath got another but
Saron hit back with Joseff Rees tapping in the ball from a corner.
Glynneath added another after a few minutes. Good efforts from Lee, Gareth
and Nathan kept Saron in the game. After a good attack Saron finally
got a third goal with Sam Jordan scoring a cracking goal from a
short corner. Kyle Wells finished well by placing his shot over the keeper
but it was too late as Glynneath held on to take the points.
Saron
started brightly, with Garin (the Goalie!), Thomas (the tackle!), cool Carwyn,
running Rhys (J Davies), crazy Connor, super Sean and dazzling Dyfan making the
starting seven. A spell of pressure from Rhos meant the defence was tested with
Thomas making several outstanding efforts to keep Rhos at bay and Garin
making several key saves diving to his right once again! The Rhos pressure
finally paid off after 3 corners and some deep defending from the Colts, in the
end it was two long-range strikes, the first slightly deflected which set Rhos
on their way. The Colts Coaches changed things around at half time with Sean
switching to make his debut in goal, Ioan (the invincible) and Dafydd (Davidenko)
in defence, ruthless Rhys S Davies & Nathaniel (Natty) Harris in
midfield and Ben (Benito) Morgan upfront. Two great strikes from distance
from Cameron Morrell set the tone and as Saron pushed forward they were
caught out late on. The Colts went away disappointed with score line not
really reflecting the performance today. Well done boys, lets look to
bounce back next week again Ponti Blacks.
Pressure
from the start by Saron led to a first ever goal for Ffion Morgan, while
Ponty’s defence held firm until Gavin made it 2-0 in the first half. More
attacking from Saron gave a 3rd to Emyr and Jac scored his first goal
to make it 4-0. A 100% performance from the whole team.
“Man”
of the Match went to Ffion Morgan
A
fast and furious game. Plenty of tactical football played by the squad. A quick
breakthrough by Kieran Waters followed by a swift pass to Curtis Jones sealed
goal number one. Tonna was in real danger when Jack Phillips made a fast
run with the ball straight through the midfielder's and had a near miss at goal.
Jake Davies's debut game was a memorable one he broke through the strong
defence to set up goal number two for C.J who smashed it in the back of the
net. Jed Danter's complete composure and skilful ball playing throughout the
game gained him man of the match.
Glynneath
1 Saron Under 10’s 10 03/11/07
Saron travelled to
Glynneath and it wasn’t long until the home side went 1-0 up. However,
Saron responded quickly and through some well worked moves they scored six goals
with no reply, four from Sam Jones and two from Aaron Butler. A strong defensive
effort and some good saves by Harry Criddle ensured Saron went into half time
1-6 up.
Glynneath came out fighting in the second half but Saron proved too superior for
the opposition and a further goal by Arron, Ethan Daniel and a brace from Grant
Stamp reflected a one sided match. Saron won the game 1- 10. Aron was named man
of the match.
In
a scrappy first half Saron twice took the lead through well taken goals from Tim
Chapman, but on both occasions Bryn chased the game and deservedly equalised.
Cwmamman
u`11s 2 Saron u`11s 2 03/11/07
Cwmamman invited
saron up to take part in a friendly but competitive match for injured cwmamman
player Paul Pugh the match was played in great spirit throughout and some good
football from both sides was played to the delight of both sets of supporters
cwmamman managed to put some good attacking play together in the first half but
sarons defense of jarred and cellan and Stefan in goals managed to keep them at
bay not to be outdone saron strung some positive play together at times but
likewise for cwmamman at the back they dealt with everything calmly the first
half looked to be heading for a stalemate but cwm put a dangerous ball into the
area sarons defense came across to clear it and put it in the back of their own
net 1-0 at the break.
Second half saw some changes for saron but the game carried on in the same
fashion as the first half cwm again with some good attacking play and saron
countering, Scott up front for saron was holding the ball well but the saron
players were slightly slow getting up to him unlike cwm at the other end
who were giving sarons back three a torrid time luckily Liam was having a
blinder in goals keeping cwm at bay the score line stayed the same for what
seemed like an age then saron broke
away with Jamie making a run drawing cwms defender away cwms keeper missing his
clearance kick and Corey latching onto the ball and slotting the equalizer into
an open goal 1-1 ,cwm went on the attack straight away with yet another
dangerous ball into the area and sarons defense yet again putting it into the
back of their own net 2-1 to cwmamman ,saron did not give up and went looking
for the equalizer with some good passing again Jamie drawing the defender
opening up a gap for Corey who slotted the equalizer 2-2 a fitting result for a
cracking game of football from both sides.
The saron squad for this match was- Liam Jones (Capt.), Stefan buttler,
jarred fairhurst, Cellan Liiv, Dion Bale, Iwan Easton, Steffan Davies,
Cameron Evans (v.capt), Steffen Morris, Scott Howells, Corey brotherwood and
Jamie long.
Rhys
'Rico' Page-Walker put in an excellent performance by scoring 6 superb goals
with great finishing. Kieran Duffin also had a good game by scoring a
well-deserved Hat Trick. Penrhos Showed good efforts but Joshua, Connor and
Dexter caused problems in midfield. The Defence of Hugh, Carl, Steffen and Rhys
kept Ryan quiet in goal with no saves to make. Sion Allen set up Ethan Walters
to score Saron's other goal when he blasted past the Penrhos keeper.
Next
Week Saron plays Bryncoch at Home.
Saron
travelled to Ponty keen to get something out of the game. Ponty was mostly in
control for the start of the game and scored 2 goals early in the first
half. The defence of Chris, Jack, Joseff and Rhys were solid and didn't leave
Ponty through after the 2 goals. Alex Reed and Steffan 'Shevchenko' Howells were creating
chances. The Second half started with goalie Liam coming back after injury and a
midfield with Alex Hurlow, Sam, Kyle, Nathan and Steffan 'Rocky' Howells
playing well and setting up Saron's first from Matt who finished well.
A few changes in defence were made which saw Scott and Nathaniel come on and
play well. Saron clinched a point near the end when Lee scored his first
for the team by finishing off a good move. Next Saturday, Saron are
away to Resolven.
Ponti
Blacks 6 Saron Colts 2 10/11/07
Saron
started competitively and they broke the deadlock with a wonder goal from
Carwyn Morris leaving the Ponti keeper no chance as he struck a long-range
effort which found the top corner. Despite the good start the Saron
defence was soon under pressure with Garin again being tested in goal making
several good saves. Whilst the Saron marking had clearly improved
two quick goals from Ponti's midfield came midway through the half. A
third just before half time came against the run of play after a couple of
good efforts on goal from Saron. Ponti's experience going forward paid
dividends as they opened the second half more brightly, despite conceding
again Saron never gave up and their determination was rewarded with a cool
finish from Sean Howells following a great run and cross from Carwyn.
Saron finished stronger and overall were more creative and determined
today leading to several further chances as the game drew to a
close. The Colts have no game next Saturday but will be presented with their
new kit sponsored by Anton Car Sales on Wednesday night. Today's performance
was much-improved well-done boys!
Saron Under 8’s 0 Britton Ferry 0 10/11/07
Both
teams tried very hard to play football on a very poor pitch, being evenly
matched the game was reduced to some sporadic attacks by both sides which
brought out two good saves by keeper Andrew Long. In the second half Saron
managed to hit the crossbar but the final score remained at nil-nil.
Another
action packed game from start to finish. The first goal came minutes into the
first half when a scramble in the Rhos box saw Jake Davies get his foot on
the ball to slip a shot past the keeper. Dion Rees Harries played the ball well
to Kieran Waters who with a flick through to |Tom Brook scored his first goal
this season for Saron. Rhos came back to put a low shot straight past the
keeper, but were caught out when a long precise throw from Jack Phillips landed
at Tom's feet to seal goal number three.
Saron United (U10) 2 Rhos Rovers (U10) 3 10.11.07
Another
slow start from Saron gifted Rhos with two early goals.
Saron began to turn the game in their favor resulting in a well worked
goal for Liam Jeffreys. In the second half both sides created goal scoring
opportunities but it was Rhos that struck first. Saron again made a huge effort to pull one back and
eventually did so with some fine interplay from a corner between Kieran Wilson
and goal scorer Liam Jeffreys. The last few minutes saw Saron dominate in their
search for an equalizer and half decent chances were created for midfielders
Rhys Price and Matthew Howell, which on another day may have been converted.
Saron can take heart from a fine second half team performance and should
look forward to the challenge of Pontardawe Whites next week.
Saron
Under 11’s 0 Lonlas 3 10/11/07
The score line does not
reflect the game saron were for the most part better than the score line
suggests even though a little flat or lethargic in the first half but with some
good performances from cameron"cartwheel"on the left always a threat
in attack and covered well defensively, this was probably a better defensive
performance in
the first half rather than attack Ryan "the major", dion and
stefan"statman" at the back were more than capable of handling lonlas
with their strikers being shut out of the game while in attack
iwan"easy",steffan"goalmachine",Corey" the
hitman"and Jamie” the boot" struggled to get any sort of attack
going 0-0 at the break. Second half saw sarong ring the changes with
rhys"zebedee", josh, iwan"pit bull”, cellan "kitty",
Kieran "woody" and liam"shotstopper"saron looked a little
brighter in this half creating some chances but not finishing them once again,
sarons defense were shutting lonlas out time after time up until the last 5
minutes of the game where they managed to put away an opportunists first goal
1-0 to lonlas, saron went searching for
an equalizer and going close on a couple of occasions. Lonlas came back at saron
with 2 cracking strikes from outside the area and putting both into the top
corners giving them a further 2 goals in the last 2 minutes of the match 3-0 to
lonlas 3 costly errors from the saron outfit whose performances have been
slightly under par of late but there were some encouraging performances out
there 2 of which were from "cart wheel" and "the major" who
are this weeks men of the match.
Saron
started strongly with Kieran and Rhys having several goal scoring chances. Ethan
Walters broke the deadlock after Saron had dominated the play when he prodded
the ball home from close range. It was all Saron now with some tough tackles
being made by Dexter, Hugh, Connor and Rhys Beaumont. Rhys Page-Walker got on
the mark again with two very good goals and he could have had more after being
set up by Joshua and Harry in defence. Overall this was a very pleasing result
from Saron against a determined Bryncoch team. Special praise must go to Steffan
Rees for his all round impressive imposing display. Well-done Boys!!! Next week
Saron are away to Morriston Town in the West Wales Cup.

CWMAMMAN
5 SARON UNDER 14’s 0
Although
Saron went down to defeat in this West Wales Cup match the match was more
competitive than the score suggests. Cwmamman took the lead within thirty
seconds of the start but Saron fought back, Ben and Nathan combining to give Nat
a chance but the defense blocked him out. Steffan held the ball well on
occasions trying to get passes away. Rhys Evans and Rhys Cann had shots wide of
the mark.
Resolven U’15’s 1 Saron U'15's 7 10/11/07
Saron
traveled to Resolven with a large Squad eager to gain 3 points. Saron
stated well with Tommy scoring his first of three after good play by Matt and
Lloyd. Nathaniel then scored with a cracking half volley after good work in
defense by Chris, Rhys and Joseff. As soon as the second half kicked
off Saron scored their third when Nathaniel finished after a pass through by Jack. Kyle
then helped Tommy get his next two goals after good play on the right wing.
Alex Hurlow and Scott strengthened the team and provided Lee with a
goal. Liam was untroubled in goal until Resolven got a goal. Sam Jordan then
made it 7 by scoring a cracking goal catching the keeper off his line.
Saron don't have a game next week but play Glynneath at home the Saturday after.
Bryn
Rovers 1 Saron Under 8’s 3
17.11.07
This was an up tempo match with Saron just edging Bryn Rovers on technical skills. Dylan, Osian and Tom gave a good account of themselves, while Gavin upfront helped himself to a hatrick of well-taken goals. Cian meanwhile earned man of the match with his splendid first half display in goal, followed by an impressive second half in midfield.
Saron
under 9's 1 Cwrt Herbert Whites 3 17.11.07
An
evenly matched game the 1st half with both sides failing to score, Alex Vaughne
strongly held off the whites and cleared the ball from the keepers box time
after time. Saron had the better chance in the 1st half to score with Jed Danter
and Luke Morgan playing classy football and creating quick runs for the strikers
who had shots wide of the goal.
Saron
United (U10) 6 Pontardawe Whites (U10) 1
17.11.07
Due to
absentees Saron were forced to play this game with the bare minimum of seven
players and no substitutes. This did not deter Saron and in both halves they
were relentless in attacking football, resulting in 3 goals in each half.
The scorers were Liam Jeffreys (3), Matthew Howell (2) and Jordan Pavey.
With the middle of the park sewn up by Kieran Wilson and with Kieran
Norrie and Will Treharne ‘on-song’ in defence, Ponty rarely troubled Seon
Lloyd in goals, but they did manage to score one goal mid-way into the second
half. This was great team
performance from the seven Saron players and they can hopefully build on this
for next week’s game against Neath Boys Club.
Saron Under 10's 6 Cwmamman
Under 10's 0 17.11.07
Saron took control of this
game right from the start, but, despite constant pressure and many opportunities
in the first half - failed to finish off their chances and went into the second
half with a 0 - 0 score line. At the start of the second half, midfielder Alex
Laius, broke the deadlock with a cracking shot off his left leg. This was the
break that Saron needed as the goals followed thick and fast. Striker Sam Jones
scored the next two with Aaron Butler finishing off the game with a hatrick.
Despite what the score suggests, the game didn't all go Saron's way with
Cwmamman fighting to the end. Saron had to do some stern defending and Harri and
Evan made some spectacular saves to prevent the away team from scoring. No man
of the match this week as the whole team performed well.
Cimla
Blues 4 Saron Under 11’s 0
17.11.07
Saron u`11s yet again
struggling to find any real form or consistency this week after making the trip
up to a very cold and windy cimla, saron managed to string together a couple of
attacks during the first half through their midfield of iwan "pitbull",
cameron"cartwheel"and Stefan Davies trying to link up with lone
striker rhys"zebedee" but as usual of late not able to capitalise on
the chances they get which of late have been few and far between. Cimla managed
to move the ball fairly well stringing together a number of attacks but the back
three of cellan"kitty", jarred"capt.
caveman",keiran"woody" and keeper liam"shotstopper"
coping with everything cimla threw at them 0-0 at half time.
Yet again due to sarons large squad this season they made a number of changes to
start the second half keeper stefan"statman", ryan"the
major", dion at the back josh and iwan"easy" in midfield saron
were on the back foot from the restart and conceded in the first minute sarons
midfield had totally gone to pieces in this half with "zebedee"on
getting any ball from long clearances by saron, they went on to concede a
further 3 goals during this half losing this fixture 4-0 confidence is low in
the saron camp at the moment but I’m sure they will turn the corner soon this
weeks man of the match goes to dion even though it wasn’t a super performance
he has made a steady improvement every game he has played in .

17.11.07
Saron
had to contend with a fierce wind against them in the first half and the good
work of Ryan Lynch in goal kept them in this match. Rhys Beaumont and Hugh
Conway played their part in keeping the Morriston attack at bay but were unable
to stop the first goal where a lack of concentration allowed a free shot on
goal. Steffan, Connor, Josh and Dan tackled hard in midfield and set the stage
up for a better performance with the wind in the second half. Ethan and Sion had
several chances and Dexter Thomas had a good game in midfield closing down the
Morriston attackers. As Saron pressed forward Morriston took advantage and
scored their second after a Saron attack broke down. With time running out Saron
sparked into life and scored a wonderful goal when Kieran crossed for Ethan to
set Rhys Page-Walker to beat three defenders and lob the stranded Morriston
keeper. Time was running out and Saron were unable to equalise despite good
efforts from Peter, Harry and Ishtar. A good effort from all the boys who
enjoyed the Morriston Town hospitality after the game.
Ammanford
0 Saron Colts 8. 18/11/2007 (Friendly Match)
The
squad turned up in their new kit and tracksuits looking very professional.
Excellent all round performance from the boys in terrible weather conditions.
Team held their shape very well and dominated from start to finish. Totally
outplayed and overpowered Ammanford from start to finish. Pleasing to see some
good passing and movement from all squad members (Damon "Benitez"
& Steve "Fergie" coaching skills paying dividends). Sean scored 7
goals! some excellent dribbling and finishing, with Ben getting the other
from close range. Whole team effort contributed to a great performance. Well
played boys & keep it up.
Penrhos
United 7 Saron Colts 2 24/11/2007
Colts took a small squad to Penrhos largely due to illness of a couple of hopefuls. Ioan made his starting debut in Goal with Dafydd and Dyfan forming a new partnership in defense. Rhys J Davies, Carwyn and Sean in midfield and Osian up front as the lone striker. They started well despite the frosty surface and were defending well. Unfortunately a couple of quick goals by the bigger Penrhos team put the Colts 2-0 down. Then Sean who showed his eye for goal once again turned in a well-taken corner from Carwyn. Rhys then struck his left footed strike just wide. Penrhos broke away and scored their third a well-struck shot into the top corner; this was followed by a clearance from Ioan being unluckily deflected into the Colts net. The second half Connor came on in place of Osian and again the Colts were performing well. Two further quick goals killed the game off before Carwyn struck a long-range effort into the top corner leaving the Penrhos goalie with no chance. A good performance from the younger Colts team with all present feeling the score certainly flattered Penrhos.
Saron
under 8’s 1 Bryncoch 4 24/11/07
A below par performance by the entire Saron team resulted in a 4-1 defeat, only the heroics of centre half Aled Lewis which earned him the man of the match kept the score-line down. Saron did have a few chances but poor passing by several players left the Bryncoch defence with nothing to do. Tomos Raymond scored Saron’s only goal
Saron
under 9's 0 Penrhos United 1. 24/11/2007
Saron under 9's traveled a long way to face defeat against the blues. A bitter morning saw the under 9's play under pressure in the first half. Despite persistent shots at goal from Curtis Jones Saron were One nil down at half time. Superb defense work and crucial saves from the keeper in the second half made it impossible for Penrhos to Score. Saron's squad gained confidence and composure in the second half and dominated the game with neat passing the intense pressure from Megan Langford in midfield felt like a thorn in Penrhos side. Saron continued much the same for the next ten minutes and just as the supporters thought Saron would equalize the final whistle blew.
Saron United (U10)2 Neath BC Whites (U10) 2 24/11/2007
Both
teams performed well on a greasy pitch with the rain lashing down. At the start it was all Saron but they failed to convert any
of the numerous chances they had created. They were then made to pay for this
when Neath scored from a very well worked breakaway goal. Immediately from the kick off Kieran Wilson took the ball
forward for Saron and struck an excellent goal into the bottom corner of
Neath’s net.
Saron u`11s 1 Rhos Rangers 0 24/11/07
Last
Saturday saron took on a much improved rhos side in heavy conditions at saron
park and to make conditions worse it started raining before the players took to
the pitch, both sides started well with Sarons passing working well in the heavy
conditions sarons midfield of Steffan Davies, iwan"easy"and
steffan"goal machine” were playing with great confidence something that
has been lacking of late. Sarons strike partnership of
rhys"zebedee"and scott"stepover" were enjoying plenty of
possession for a change with "stepover" dropping back and linking well
with the midfield but they were still finding it difficult to hit the back of
the net which was partly down to the conditions, Sarons back three of dion, ryan!
The major” and Stefan” the statman" were rarely troubled but when
called upon handled themselves confidently Saron dominated possession in the
first half but it was still 0-0 at half time.
Second half saw some changes for saron even with a few key players missing,
jarred "capt.caveman", Jamie "the boot", iwan "pitbull",
cellan "kitty” and keiran "woody" came on to contribute to the
game, sarons confidence and passing dominance grew as the game carried on
"the boot"showing his strength in midfield by winning the ball time
after time and the saron wingers looking to pass the ball up to lone striker
"Capt. caveman" but still unable to hit the target until midway
through up popped "the pitbull"with his sheer pace and magic feet
feeding the ball to "zebedee" who in turn played him back in on goal
with a good finish from"pitbull"1-0 to saron and it was a "pitbull"
strike from inside the saron half that tested the rhos keeper yet again with him
just getting his finger tips to it ,Steffan Davies and "stepover" came
back on for saron who were now looking to finish the game off saron created some
more chances but rhos`s defence and keeper were up to the task while sarons back
line were rarely troubled due to sarons dominant midfield in both half’s game
finished 1-0 to sarons this performance will give the boys a much needed
confidence boost proving that they can play a passing game what ever the
conditions, Today’s men of the match goes to "stepover" for his
confident link up play throughout and to Steffan Davies who had the best game
since he put on a saron shirt.
Saron
U 13's 1 v 2 Cwmaman U13's
In very
testing conditions Saron battled hard against a determined Cwmaman team with
Ryan Lynch in goal making some superb saves. An excellent all round effort saw
Dexter, Steffan, Daniel and Harry work hard in midfield giving Kieran Jones and
Sion several good chances to open the scoring for Saron.Cwmaman took the lead
with a great solo effort and went two goals ahead in the second half when slack
defending cost Saron dearly. After this Saron kicked into gear with Connor
Thomas and Joshua Jordan combining well to set up Kieran Duffin to fire
past the helpless Cwmaman keeper. Saron went all out to gain the equaliser and
Peter, Ishtar and Dewi all saw great chances denied by the Cwmaman defence. Hugh
and Rhys had good games in defence but it was not to be but the whole squad can
be pleased with the manner in which they played the game in great Team Spirit.

Saron
travelled to Resolven hoping to continue the good form of the previous Saturday.
Both teams started tentatively with both defences giving little away. Steffan
Davies and Ben Jones kept the pressure on the Resolven back line with good
chasing and harrying. Both sides tried to put some passes together, Resolven
firstly bringing a good punched clearance from Aled Thomas from a long range
effort, whilst Nat Wilson for Saron went close. Gavin Thomas and Rhys Cann
tucked in front of the Saron back four and broke up a number of Resolven attacks
whilst Josh Cranfield, Rhys Evans, Daniel Ellison and Josh Davies protected
their keeper well. From a Saron corner Josh Cranfield blasted over from six
yards and soon after Nat Wilson was brought down in the box. From the resulting
penalty Rhys Evans hammered his shot against the foot of the post and away.
Half time arrived nil all.
The earlier light rain became much heavier and the teams found it difficult to
control the slippery ball. Saron brought on Joseph Brooks and Dylan Evans but
the match deteriorated into a kick and rush affair with neither side able to
break the deadlock. The centre back with Resolven was outstanding with good pace
and covered his defence well. The match was very fairly referred but Saron will
be a little disappointed in not taking the three points after the two missed
chances in the first half. Man of the match for Saron was shared by Gavin Thomas
and Daniel Ellison.

Bryncoch 1 Saron U10's 5 15/12/2007
Saron maintained their
recent excellent form and produced one of their finest displays of the season to
defeat a solid Bryncoch side 1 – 5.
The game started with a Saron attack and Sam Jones was unlucky not to score in
the first minute. The spectators did not have long to wait before Sam scored
following a fantastic header by Aaron Butler. This was swiftly followed by
another Sam Jones goal following a superb break by Ethan Daniels. The home side
were not to be dismissed and, following a goal of their own, were back in the
game. Saron were quick to respond with another fine strike by Sam taking the
score line to 1 – 3 at half time. Saron continued in the same vain in the
second half and played some fantastic football. There was little that the home
side could do as the well-drilled and clinical Saron team effort prevented them
from having any time on the ball. Aaron and Sam scored in this half taking the
final score to 1 – 5. This was an excellent all round team performance, but
Man of the Match had to go to striker Sam Jones for some spectacularly skilful
football and his 4 goals.

Herbert blacks 1 Saron u`11s 0 15/12/2007
Saron came up against one of
the best teams in their league on Saturday and even though up until recently
confidence had been low in the saron squad, they didn’t look fazed or out of
sorts at all and every member of the squad played with great confidence. In the
first half saron soaked up a lot of pressure from the ever dominant blacks but
the defence of keiran "woody", cellan"kitty" and
iwan"pit bull" worked hard along with keeper stefan"statman"
to keep the ball out of the saron net but eventually blacks pressure told and
they managed to squeeze a shot through all the legs in the box to take the lead
which did not deter saron one bit with"pitbull"breaking from defence
showing his lightning speed and linking well with the midfield of
steffan"goal machine",iwan"easy",stefan"kingpin"
who in turn tried feeding lone striker scott"stepover" but yet again
sarons failure to finish is becoming their biggest problem which given time will
soon change 1-0 at the break.
Second half saw saron field a totally fresh midfield and striker and the
momentum in sarons favour they oozed confidence going forward with some
fantastic linkup play between rhys"zebedee", jamie"the
boot",cameron"cartwheel", corey"hitman"and ever present
"pitbull"the blacks defence were given a torrid time but still saron
failed to put it in the back of the net, saron won a number of corners in this
half without conceding any such was their dominance blacks only managed to
get 1
shot of in this half which hit the post while saron kept the blacks keeper and
defence very busy but they failed to finish which clearly cost them the result
1-0 to the blacks this weeks men of the match were pitbull for an outstanding
performance and clearly the best player on the pitch yet again and easy for a
workman like performance in midfield.

Due to illness, Saron fielded a team of 7 with several players playing out of position. Despite this and in an atmosphere where both players and parents can now enjoy, Saron at times played some great football. A man of the match performance by Goalie Andrew Long and two goals by Osian Easton were the highlights in a very entertaining match.

Tonna 0 Saron 5 Saturday 5th January 2008
Saron started the new year
in style with a confident, polished performance away from home to a gutsy tonna
side, the first half got under way with saron retaining possession from the kick
off and showing early signs of their dominance with the strike partnership of
Scott "stepover" and Corey” the hitman" combining well with the
midfield of josh, Jamie "the boot” and cameron "cartwheel"
putting tonnas defence and keeper under extreme pressure but again sarons
finishing letting them down snatching and scuffing their chances forcing the
shot rather than being patient .frustration crept into sarons game allowing
tonna some possession but the defence of iwan "pitbull" ,keiran
"woody" and keeper stefan "statman" coped with everything
tonna could muster and a few words from the sidelines and saron were back on top
of the game ,the boot floated in a corner which touched several players finally
falling to stepover who in turn played cartwheel in who on the third attempt
found the back of the net 1-0 to saron at half time .
Saron made some changes at half time with dion, Steffan "kingpin" and
iwan "easy" coming on saron picked up where they left off out passing
tonna all over the pitch with the hitman and stepover giving tonna a torrid time
and it wasn’t long before cartwheel was back on the scoreboard finishing off a
cracking cross from ever improving kingpin for the tonna keeper and cartwheel
popping up again and unlucky not to get a hatrick with easy missing the rebound
by now saron had the bit between their teeth, pitbull showing his pace from
defence and getting sarons third, the hitman not to be outdone curled the fourth
in from his well taken corner and the boot lived up to his name by finishing off
stepover rebound before it reached the ground5-0 to saron .this weeks men of the
match are woody and cartwheel .

1 Saron Under 8’s 1 12/01/2008
Saron Under 8’s dominated but only managed a draw; with all players fit again Saron took a strong team to Resolven. They quickly took control of the game with a close range shot from midfielder Connor Walters. Saron dominated possession and territory throughout and looked good for a win with some no nonsense defending from Ffion Morgan. Saron pushed for their second goal to put the game out of reach but were denied by a poor final ball or some outstanding saves from the Resolven keeper. Then came the equalising goal midway through the second half, from a counter attack down the left leading to a well-taken goal. Saron then pushed for the winner with some breaks from midfielder Iestyn Rees, who was man of the match, but with the game being played in the Resolven penalty area Saron just couldn’t get the break through and the win they deserved.
Saron U10’s 8 Rhos 0 12/01/2008
Saron didn’t take long to
stamp their superiority on the away side with a well-worked move finished off by
Sam Jones. Saron were too strong in every facet of play for Rhos and notched up
a further three goals by the half time whistle.
The second half started with a better performance by Rhos but Saron soon ground
them down and were rewarded with another four goals in the second half.
The game finished 8-0 to Saron, with a hat-trick for captain Aaron Butler and
Sam Jones, and a goal a piece for Alex Laius and Grant Stamp. Due to the superb
team effort shown by all, the whole team were named man of the match.

Cimla Rovers (U10) 3 12.01.08
It was a good ten minutes before Saron were able to run off their turkey and mince pies; by then they found themselves 2 nil down. Then with the aid of some hard graft from Morgan Phillips, Arry ‘The Hammer’ Gravelle, Rhys Price and Matthew ‘Benny’ Howell, Saron scored two sweetly taken goals courtesy of striker Kieran Wilson. At the start of the second half it was all Saron and with passing maneuvers in which they used the pace of winger Tim Chapman they scored two more finely taken goals, both from Liam Jeffreys. With the score at 4-2 Saron then made the cardinal sin of relaxing and Cimla took their chance to make it 4-3. This goal spurred Cimla on and it became a real battle for Saron with an almost siege mentality from defender Kieran ‘The Rock’ Norrie and Seon ‘Amser’ Lloyd. Thankfully Saron held on and deservedly won the game by 4 goals to three.

This was a typical encounter
between the 2 sides with cwm capitalising on their chances and saron not being
able to put theirs away the composure of the previous week seemed to be missing
from sarons game this week with the midfield allowing themselves to be harried
of the ball by a well organised cwm midfield doing their job well not allowing
Saron to settle at all and making great use of the ball when they were in
possession because saron did not put continuous pressure on them.
There were glimpses of sarons ability to pass the ball and attack but
unfortunately they were few and far between and sarons 3 rotating strikers
Corey” the hit man", scott"stepover" and rhys"zebedee"
worked hard with what ball they had but the cwm defence just managed to contain
them, at the other end sarons defence worked tirelessly to keep Cwm at bay with

Saron traveled to Metal Box to play N.B.C and left their boots at home. In a poor first half, Saron were lucky to reach halftime a goal up thanks to the boot of Grant and heroics of Harri in goal. The second half was much the same, the Boys Club putting on a lot of pressure and Saron lucky not to concede a goal. Some good goalkeeping by Evan (in goal for the second half) kept them at bay. Then Sam scored Sarons second late in the half to ease the pressure a bit. A lot of work needs to be done in the next week.

Saron produced their best spell of passing football of the season putting Penrhos under constant pressure. This finally told when Saron took the lead courtesy of a Liam Jeffreys strike. There was no let up for Penrhos and Saron utilised the pace of Tim Chapman, who eventually got Sarons second goal. To be fair to Penrhos they never gave up and produced the goal of the day with a fine chipped shot over Saron’s lively keeper Seon Lloyd. In the second half Saron maintained their composure and continued to pass the ball around the pitch even when possession was lost they could still rely on their battling skills especially with Morgan Phillips producing a solid performance in the middle of the park. Saron got their just rewards, a second goal for Tim Chapman and Saron’s third. There was again a spirited fight back from Penrhos, which enabled them to pull another goal back, but Saron deservedly ran out winners 3 goals to 2.

This was a typical derby between the two sides, but as usual Cwm came out on top, due to their ability to finish their chances. Saron’s back three of Stefan “Statman”, Iwan “Pit Bull” and Dion got caught napping twice which Cwm took full advantage of with two goals. There were good performances from Jamie “The Boot”, Cameron “Cartwheeel” and Iwan “Easy” in midfield, while Cory “The Hitman” worked hard up front, while Scott “Stepover” Managed to get a goal for Saron after a comedy of errors in the Cwm box. Second half saw Cellan “Kitty”, Steffan “Goal Machine”, Steffan “Kingpin”, Josh and Rhys “Zebedee” come on for Saron. Saron went looking for an equaliser and came close on a couple of occasions while Cwm tried to extend their lead. Respective defence and keepers, the second half finished goalless denied both sides.
Last game’s Man of the Match went to Stefan “Statman” and Iwan “Pitbull”.
Playing
their first match since late November due to the poor weather both teams looked
a little lethargic early on.Playing with a player short Resolven gave a good
account of themselves and made Saron work hard throughout. Saron again missed a
few early chances and Resolven went close twice but Josh Cranfield and Rhys
Evans cleared the danger. Rhys Cann and Gavin Thomas worked hard in the centre
of midfield, as did Nathan Lewis and Nat Wilson on the flanks. Steffan Davies
tried to deliver crosses from the left with his weaker foot but he and Ben Jones
were under pressure from the Resolven rearguard who gave little away. Saron went
ahead after twenty minutes; Rhys Cann chased a ball down the left and with the
centre back bearing down, flicked the ball inside for Ben Jones to tuck away.
Resolven tried hard and looked useful going forward, their number seven in
particular was very dangerous. Saron needed a second goal, Nat Wilson found Ben
with a good pass, the keeper made a fine double save from first Ben and then
Gavin, but the ball fell to Nathan who fired home.
In
the second half Resolven pushed forward more and Aled Thomas had to make a good
save and Daniel Ellison was on hand to clear in the six-yard box. Gavin Thomas
hit a left footer too close to the keeper and Rhys Cann and Rhys Evans went
close. Saron had a penalty for handball and Rhys Evans stepped up to blast home.
Josh Davies, Dylan Evans and Cellan Williams came on for Saron. Josh and Ben
combined well and Dylan gave added pace to the attack. Dylan went close with a
shot from the edge and Cellan knitted well into midfield. Saron’s rearguard
gave nothing away with Joseph Davies and Joseph Brooks playing well on the
flanks. The final goal came from a Cellan Williams corner which the keeper
unfortunately punched into his own net.
Saron Under 8’s 0 Rhos Rovers 0 02.02.2008
This was a terrific game played at a furious pace with a no quarter asked and none given attitude by both sides. Saron with Aled and Ffion strong at the back, and an attacking line up led by Iestyn and Osian could not bet the one goal that would settle it. Man of the Match went to Iestyn. Well done everybody.
Saron entertained Cwrt Herbert Whites at home this week and the supporters were entertained by some neat football, by both sides. Saron dominated the early exchanges with Jamie “The Boot” stamping his authority in the centre and Steffan “Kingpin” and Cameron “Cartwheel” either side of him. The defence of Iwan “Pitbull” and Cellan “Kitty” coping well at the back for Saron, against the run of play. A well-worked goal from the Whites with a good shot from outside the area and Liam “Shotstopper” failing to get down in time. Saron’s strike partnership of Rhys “Zebedee” and Josh tried hard to equalise and Iwan “Easy” hitting the crossbar just before half time. Half time saw Saron make some changes with Cory “The Hitman”, Scott “Stepover”, Stefan “Statman” and Keiran “Woody” coming on, this enabled Saron to step up a notch, and going close early on. Eventually Saron’s pressure told and “The Hitman” equalised. It became a ding-dong affair in the last 5 minutes with both sides defending desperately as they both went looking for the winner. 1-1 at full time.
Last weeks Men of the Match were “The Hitman” and “The Boot”.

Saron dominated the midfield and spent most of the first half in attack, but only had one goal to show for it, at half time, which was scored by Connor Walters, (man of the match) The second half continued much the same with the Blacks keeper keeping them in the game, saving constantly from a barrage of shots from the Saron attackers. The home team tried to counter attack but a solid defence led by Dylan Lewis cut out all their efforts. Daniel Brown had a great shot and this made it a hard fought 2-0 at half time. Saron worked hard with Joshua Jordan and Harry Brook effective in controlling midfield whilst Kieran Duffin scored a superb volley from a Saron corner to set up his first of a great hat-trick. Connor Thomas played well on the right wing crossing for Kieran's second and a great solo effort finished off Kieran's hat-trick and Penrhos who played the game in great spirit. Saron
made the short journey to hendy this weekend at short notice due to
cancellations and both sets of supporters were treated to some fast flowing
football Saron started their first twenty with a mixed side of skill levels
which told in the early exchanges with Hendy going 2-0 up in no time at all,
Saron finally settled down with Steffan"kingpin", Corey” the hitman",
Steffan"goalmachine"and Josh trying to attack at every opportunity
which left Sarons back four of Ryan” the major”, Jack in his 1st game,Dion
and Liam"shotstopper" open to some breakaway attacks by Hendy, Saron
managed to sustain a good period of pressure which resulted in a well taken
headed goal for "the goal machine” from a well delivered "hitman"
corner , 2-1 Saron then seemed to take shot after shot at the Hendy goal but not
really troubling their keeper.
The next twenty saw a far more settled Saron side with Cameron”
cartwheel", Jamie "the boot", Rhys"zebedee",
Scott"stepover", Iwan"pitbull”, Keiran"woody" and
Stefan"statman" who took the game to Hendy causing them huge problems
in midfield and it wasn’t long before Saron pressure told after a number of
well taken corners "the boot” played the ball back in towards goal for
"stepover" to tap in at the far post 2-2.
Hendy made a few breaks but not any to trouble the back 3 of saron
"pitbull","woody"and "statman" "the
hitman"proved to be a handful for Hendy all over the pitch and soon got his
goal 3-2 to Saron going into the final 20.again Saron started with a mixed bag
of skill for the first 10 minutes which told as Hendy equalised early on 3-3,
Saron managed to weather the Hendy pressure during this period with some good
defending from Dion,"the major” and "woody”, Saron made changes
after 10 minutes and yet again they gained the upper hand from a square ball
from "cartwheel" for "the boot" to swing onto and
re-establish Sarons lead 4-3 , Saron sustained their pressure up to the dying
minute when Hendy broke through and initially the shot being saved by "statman"
only to have the ball poked from his hands and into the back of the net giving
Hendy a controversial equaliser 4-4 the game finished soon after with Saron

Saron went into this match in an expectant mood against the league leaders. Saron started well with the midfield of Alex, Sam and Nathan playing well defensively as well as attacking. Steffan and Kyle worked hard up front setting up opportunities. The first goal came from a rebounded shot, which Matt fired home to put Saron ahead. Saron went into the second half with the defense of Chris, Rhys, Jack, Scott and Joseff staying solid at the back. Liam was untroubled in goals but when needed pulled off some great saves. The second goal came from good work by Arwel to set up Nathaniel to finish well. The third goal came from a Matt Warnes corner, which curled, right into the net. Rhos pulled one goal back near the end but it wasn't enough as Saron held on to a well-deserved victory.
Saron
Colts went down to the older Bryncoch Blacks team despite another improved
& battling performance. The score line certainly flattered the home team
and a one or perhaps two nil result would have been a fairer reflection
of the well-contested game. Colts started strongly with Ioan and Dafydd
tackling strongly in defence, despite this the Bryncoch team took a 2-0 lead
into halftime when a leanient decision by the home ref allowed a clear hand
ball to play on...the Colts hesitated and despite protests the goal stood. Last
weeks man of the match Carwyn was very Darren Pratley like showing
energy to cover the length of the field in both defence and attack, despite
some strong challenges from Bryncoch! In the second half a couple of
small mistakes cost the Colts dear and they had to reorganise after Garin was
injured in conceding the fourth, Ioan deputised again in a confident
manner. The final kick of the game saw the Blacks fifth with the ref blowing
up as the goal went in! Despite the score line another much improved
performance from Sarons youngest team. If they keep performing like this the
results will no doubt follow. Well Done lads
Saron shine in dismal weather conditions, playing in driving rain and fog, Saron managed to put on a display of free flowing passing football. Saron scored their first early on with a goal by Gavin Jones after some good passing through the midfield. Dylan Lewis put in another dominating performance at the back, which earned him the man of the match award. Saron got their second well deserved goal from a goal mouth scramble which Gavin Jones put away for his second of the match, however Cimla weren’t done and it was only the outside of the post which denied them a goal before the break. Cimla came out after the break on the attack and were shut out by a string of saves from keeper Cian Anderson. The game was put out of reach by a well-taken goal by Connor Walters to cap off a great display from all the Saron players.
Saron traveled

to score while at the saron end any hendy attack was thwarted immediately
allowing saron to build again with chances going begging again with last ditch
tackles, shots going wide, defenders blocking shots and the hendy keeper having
a good day much too the frustration of saron it just wasn’t to be despite
their pressure in midfield and looking far more dominant at times .
Last weeks men of the match were "pitbull"and "the hitman"
This was a very entertaining match which was to and fro after Steffan Rees opened the scoring for Saron with a well taken header from a corner .The Saron defence then allowed two sloppy goals for Bryn but Kieran Duffin scored Saron's second with a shot that was placed past the Bryn keeper. Bryn went ahead again before Daniel Brown for Saron equalised once again when he shot past the helpless Bryn keeper. Saron conceded two more as they sought to win the game but a great effort by the Saron boys in very testing conditions.
Saron
Colts 0 - Pontardawe Whites 1 1/03/2008
Saron Colts made further progress this week going down just 1-0 to Ponti Whites. This week the score line reflected the close and hard-fought game with the Colts battling for every ball & showing tremendous team sprit and togetherness. Carwyn had to be the man of the match once again leading the way by covering every blade of grass putting in several last ditch covering tackles in defence and battling in midfield. Despite the pressure from the stronger Ponti team the Colts made several breakaways and could have pinched a couple of goals if their final ball had been a bit stronger. Garin again made several key saves in goal proving shot stopper with great potential in his first full season. As well as Garin the squad of Ioan, Dafydd, Thomas and Dyfan settled partnerships in defence, Midfielders Nathanial, Rhys S Davies, Rhys J Davies, Sean and Carwyn were joined this week by Connor in his new position and Ben Morgan battling as ever up front have all shown significant development in the last few weeks. Well done again lads
Saron Under 8's 3 Rhos Under 8's 0 1/03/2008
Saron continued their good run of form with a crushing win against Rhos on a water soaked pitch, despite the heavy pitch Saron played some excellent football. Saron took the lead midway through the first half with a well-taken strike by Cian Anderson. They doubled their lead early in the second half with a great individual goal from Gavin Jones. The game now in the bag Saron turned on the stile and scored their third after some good passing through the midfield which was finished by Man of the Match Gavin Jones. Well done boys yet another clean sheet from a no nonsense defensive line.
Saron Under 9's 0 Bryncoch Under 9's 5 1/03/2008
Saron played well against a strong organized Bryncoch side with Jack, Dion and Scott making tackle after tackle. Kieran and Alex passed the ball well in midfield with Megan and Jed combining well to set up Curtis who had several good shots on goal. Saron were unlucky not to score when Tom had a shot that was well saved by the Bryncoch keeper. Llion had a good game in goal despite the score line and all the team are improving after each match they have. Megan Langford was given the man of the match award for never backing out from tackling the Bryncoch players.
Pontardawe Blacks 3 Saron Under 11's 1 1/03/2008
Saron went away this week
with a few key players missing including no regular keeper but Rhys "zebedee"
was more than willing to take up the position and put in an outstanding
performance in an end to end game in which neither side really dominated there
was some good flowing football from both sides throughout with ponty opening up
the scoring with a fine cross and finish beating the saron defence of iwan
"pitbull", dion and Ryan” the major” and who managed to keep ponty
at bay for most of the first half while saron went on the attack through cameron
"cartwheel", steffan" goalmachine" and cellan
"kitty" making his debut in midfield .
Saron were denied an equaliser from "cartwheel" and josh by some
strong ponty defending on several occasions, saron pushed hard for the equaliser
only to be caught on the break by ponty scoring a scrappy 2nd just squeezing it
through "zebedee" legs 2-0 at the break.Saron made changes at half
time and went on the attack from the kick off putting pressure on ponty who
eventually fell fowl of a good saron move which involved Jamie” the boot” to
steffan"kingpin"to Corey” the hitman" who took the initial shot
and iwan "easy” finishing off the rebound to half the deficit 2-1,the
game continued back and forth with the saron defence holding well with the
addition of keiran "woody" saron tried hard at the other end to get an
equaliser then they were struck a cruel blow with a speculative shot by ponty
from outside the box just eluding "zebedde" finger tips and dipping
below the bar 3-1 to ponty at the end . Last weeks "men of the match”
were "pitbull" and "the boot".
Saron
Under 8’s 1 Cwrt Herbert Whites 1 08/03/2008
Saron and the Whites both put on a gutsy competitive performance in the rain with a cracking midfield battle, which was just edged by Saron, both teams putting in some heavy challenges. Saron took an early lead from some good passing then a cracking half volley from Ffion which the Whites keeper partially saved but Jac was on hand to net the ball from close range. Saron looked good for their lead and should have put the game safe in the second half, however they paid the ultimate price when they were caught out in the final stages of the game when the Whites equalized. The final score 1-1 draw. Man of the Match went to Dylan but another good team performance.
Saron traveled to Sunnybank expecting wet conditions but were able to play some excellent passing football with Kieran Jones and Sion Allen combining well in midfield. Saron scored after two minutes when Harry Brook volleyed home from a Connor Thomas cross. Sunnybank equalized against the run of play from a corner which appeared to be handled by the striker before being prodded home past the untroubled Ryan Lynch in goal for Saron.Hugh Conway was Captain for the day and inspired his Team to some great passing movements. Saron regained the lead when Kieran Duffin again volleyed home from a Rhys Beaumont cross. The second half continued with Saron in total control and Carl Morris, Ishtar Witt, Hugh Conway and Joshua Jordan untroubled showing great strength in the tackle. Saron extended their lead when Kieran Duffin lobbed the Sunnybank keeper. Ethan Walters was very strong up front holding up the ball well and scored a goal with a great piece of individual skill. Kieran Duffin scored another well-deserved hat trick when he blasted past the Sunnybank defense. Joshua Jordan had a great game at sweeper for Saron and Harry Brook controlled midfield also. Sunnybank got one back but it was all too late and coaches Martin and James were very pleased with the performances of the boys.
Swansea Academy 2 Saron Under 8’s 1 16/03/2008
Due to the huge improvement to the team since Christmas, Saron were invited to play against the Swansea Development side on Sunday. Playing indoors on a state of the art pitch Saron gave a good account of themselves. Andrew and Cian both produced excellent saves; Iestyn’s distribution of the ball was excellent this resulted in Osian and Connor attacking both flanks. Dylan in his favored holding midfield role won every tackle leaving Aled, Ffion and Jac to occasionally clear their defensive lines. Gavin’s pace continued to cause problems up front. The Swans went 1 up after 30 minutes, but this only spurred Saron on and soon equalized 10 minutes later, when Connor crossed to Gavin who threaded a pass through to Osian who levelled the scores. Saron then missed a couple of chances before leaving the Swans to score against the run of play to win the match in injury time. Congratulations to all the players especially Gavin Jones who has been invited to join the Swansea Academy. Well-done Team.
Penrhos
Falcons (U10) 0 Saron United (U10) 2 15.03.08
The rain held off long enough for Saron and Penrhos to lock horns once again. Saron dominated from the off, with Arwel Gravelle commanding the mid-field, but despite creating numerous chances they could not get the ball past the Penrhos keeper. In the second half Saron continued to dominate but on the few occasions Penrhos did threaten to attack they were easily snuffed out by defenders Kieran Norrie and Rhys Price. Late in the second half the brave Penrhos defence did slip up and Liam Jeffreys was there to hit the ball into the back of the net. This goal spurred the Saron attack on and within a minute they were two up when Kieran Wilson scored after some nice interplay between Jeffreys and Will Treharne.
Cimla
Utd Under 10’s 0. Saron Under 10’s 4 15/03/2008
After
a two-week layoff without a game, Saron started the game a little slowly. Some
good goalkeeping by Harri kept Saron in the game after soaking up a lot of
pressure from a strong Cimla side. Aaron struck just before half time to take
the lead at the break. The second half saw Saron step up a gear and Cimla were
totally dominated. A goal, which was claimed by Sam, settled any nerves and was
followed by another two by Aaron. This was a fine team performance, which ended
with no man of the match, as they all deserved the award.
Plate
Quarter final 15/03/2008
Saron
travelled for this Quarter Final plate match to Tennant Park.
A defensive mix-up gave Lonlas an early lead but Saron fought back with a
shot from Steffan Davies just wide of the upright. Nat Wilson and Nathan Lewis
also went close with good support from Josh Davies. The Saron back four of Rhys
Evans, Josh Davies, Daniel Ellison and Rhydian Griffiths were hard worked but
defended stoutly. A good tackle in midfield from Rhys Cann and a through ball
almost put Gavin Thomas on goal but the pass was just too hard. Nathan and Nat
down the flanks both gave Lonlas problems.
Cwmamman Under 8’s 1 Saron Colts 0 22/03/2008
The game swayed from end to end at a fast pace, Saron missed a few chances but were caught on the break just before half time resulting in an unlucky goal. The Colts soaked up pressure from Cwmamman in the second half but unfortunately missed further attempts on the Cwm goal. An outstanding performance from a young side, Well-done boys keep up the good work.
Saron produced a dazzling display of football to earn an easy victory against a team of defensive quality. Saron took the lead early on in the first half from a great strike from Aled enjoying a rare opportunity up front from his usual defensive position. The midfield totally bossed the game with Iestyn covering every inch of the pitch and Dylan being the governor in midfield. The second goal could only be described as total football with the ball being passed right through the length of the field to be finished sweetly by Osian. The game was then finished off by a goalie scramble resulting in Osian’s second. The game finished 3-0 but could have been more but for the visiting keeper. Yet another clean sheet for Sarons defence led by Ffion and Keeper Andrew. A big welcome to Harry who played his first game for the Under 8’s. Man of the match went to Aled.
Saron
Under 11`s 1 Bryncoch Under 11`s 3 22/03/2008
Saron looked a little rusty
having not played for over a fortnight and got off to a slow start allowing Bryncoch
to boss the opening exchanges and coming away with a goal within 5 minutes of
the opening half, this in turn rallied the saron monsters with a good period of
pressure through the hard work of Cameron "cartwheel", Jamie "the
boot” and iwan "easy" in midfield allowing Corey ” the
hitman" and Scott "stepover" to cause havoc in the Bryncoch defense
some well taken corners from "the boot” and "cartwheel” were
troubling Bryncoch and finally Saron pressure told with perfectly weighted
corner from "the boot" finding "the hitman" to equalize for
Saron 1-1. Bryncoch made a few breaks throughout the half but were snubbed out
by iwan "pitbull" and Kieran "woody" at the back and under
the command of Stefan "statman" in goals Saron went close to tacking
the lead on several occasions but making the wrong decisions at vital times cost
them the much needed 2nd goal to take them ahead.
Second half saw Saron make the usual several changes with dion, Stefan
"kingpin”, cellan "kitty"and josh, Saron still looked the
stronger side in the opening 5 minutes again going close on numerous occasions
but indecision again costing them dearly all their hard work of creating a
chance counting for nothing with bad decision making on the pitch. All of a
sudden Bryncoch seemed to get a second wind and it was all one-way traffic for
the remainder of the game Saron looked deflated and disjointed after Bryncoch
managed to get a 2nd and totally out of it by the time they got their 3rd,this
weeks players of the match were "statman" and "pitbull".
On
the road once again to play Tonna, having lost to them twice this season. With a
few regulars missing Saron made a few positional changes for this match,
bringing in Simon Finn at center back for his first match, pitching Josh Davies
into midfield and starting Cellan Williams and Rhys Evans up front.
Britton Ferry 1 Saron Under 8’s 2 29/03/2008
Poor weather and playing conditions made for a very scrappy game, which became a classic midfield battle edged by Saron. Saron took the lead halfway through the first half from a defensive mix up and an own goal by Britton Ferry, Saron held on until half time and just about deserved their lead. Saron started the second half better than the home side winning the 50/50 challenges and wing Connor making some great runs down the right flank. Gavin made the game safe with a great strike from a free kick. The Saron back line looked good for another clean sheet until the home side were awarded a free kick, which took a wicked deflection off the wall leaving the keeper helpless. Man of the match went to Cian for his versatility in playing one half in goal and the other as a defender. Well done!
Saron
United Under 10’s 2 Cimla United
0 29.03.08
Despite the atrocious blizzard like conditions both teams played some good football. In the first half Saron were playing against the wind but with Arwel Gravelle bossing the midfield Cimla were reduced to only a hand full of shots on goal. Great interplay between Tim Chapman and Liam Jeffreys produced a through for Kieran Wilson who unselfishly slotted across the goal for Matthew Howells to slot the ball into the net. In the second half, with the wind now in their favour Saron began to dominate using Chapman’s pace down the right flank. Another goal for Saron was inevitable and Liam Jeffreys calmly provided this from a shot from the edge of the box. To be fair to Cimla they never gave up but defenders Will Treharne and Rhys price were in no mood to stand any nonsense and kept the attacks at bay. Were it not for the continuous hale stones lashing down Saron’s attacks would have produced more goals, but the players can take heart from this victory and for a bringing a ray of sunshine on what was a miserable day.
Saron
Under 10’s 3 Giants Grave Under 10’s0 20/03/2008
Saron
travelled to Giants Grave to play this match as the pitch in Saron was
unplayable. Saron started strongly with good performances from everyone. Good
goalkeeping from Evan and strong defensive displays from Owain and
Nathan helped to keep the attack of Giants Grave at bay while the midfield trio
of Aaron, Ethan and Alex won some good ball to feed Grant and Sam up front.
Saron took the lead when Ethan hit the back of the net after a goalmouth
scramble. This was soon followed by a lob by Sam which would not have been out
of place on Match of the day. The third goal, and Saron's 100th of the season,
(from 19 league games), came from an Aaron throw-in which somehow got
deflected into Grave's goal.
Gynneath Under 11`s 0 Saron Under 11’s 5 29/03/2008
Saron made the long journey
up to Glynneath in horrendous conditions both teams gave it their all despite
the weather saron with key players missing in defence due to injury, all the
saron players dug deep to give a truly organised display throughout the
game, the first half saw steffan "the statman" in goals not missing a
save with liam "shotstopper" in defence for the first time in 2 years
partnering keiran "woody" both giving a solid display, cellan
"kitty" was asked to play a holding role just in front of defence
which he did superbly giving sarons attacking players good ball to work with
Corey" the hitman" dropping into midfield looking for work was soon
rewarded with a goal only for it to be disallowed but made up for it with a
cross to iwan "easy" to open up the scoring 1-0 to saron .some good
build up play involving steffan "kingpin" and scott "stepover"
gave "the hitman" sarons 2nd ,"the statman" and the crowd
thought he had given saron their 3rd from his goal kick only for it to be
disallowed
nevertheless "the hitman" was soon on hand to slot his 2nd and sarons
3rd soon after 3-0 at the break .saron made changes at half time with dion and
jack in defence and Jamie "the boot" taking up the unfamiliar role of
a holding position just in front of them and with Cameron "cartwheel"
,rhys "zebedee", steffan"goal machine" and josh taking up
the rest of the positions saron proved to be dominant throughout this half as
well with glynneath not getting much joy from the defensive effort from saron
who in turn on numerous occasions were able to turn defence into attack and went
close on so many occasions but unable to break the dead lock even with
"cartwheel" and "the boot" showing some initiative on
corners but it took until the last five minutes for saron to get back on the
score sheet through "cartwheel" and in the last play of the game josh
scoring his 1st goal for saron 5-0 at the end a fantastic all round effort
from the players a disciplined and controlled display in terrible weather .
Saron Under 13's 6 Cimla Under 13's 2 29/03/2008
In wet conditions Saron started brightly with Connor Thomas scoring after a good run down the right flank. The efforts of Hugh, Carl, Josh and Ishtar in defence were important as Saron went 2 - 0 up after Kieran Jones tapped in Dewi's cross. Dexter and Harry battled superbly in midfield but couldn't stop Cimla getting a well worked goal. The second half started with the conditions getting worse and it affected Saron as Cimla levelled the scores. Peter and Daniel came on and produced good efforts to keep the scores level. Saron then improved and got a third goal as Ethan finished well to give Saron the lead. Harry Brook had an excellent game and also got a goal to his name as he finished a long range effort. Saron finished the game strongly with Kieran Duffin scoring a well-placed penalty after Connor Thomas was pulled back and Sion Allen finishing off a good move to make it 6 - 2. Next Week Saron entertain Sunnybank.
Saron
travelled to wet and windy Skewen Park for this league match after losing to
Lonlas in the plate a fortnight ago.
Pontardawe
Reds 0 Saron Under 8’s 8 05/04/2008
Saron produced an excellent performance away from home, resulting in an eight-goal beating of the young Pontardawe side. Man of the Match Iestyn scored five of the eight Saron goals, scoring with both of his feet; the pick of the goals was a left footed half volley in the second half. Other goals were well taken by Dylan, Gavin and Cian. The whole team played and battled well, not missing a single tackle leaving Saron keeper Andrew with very little to do throughout the match. Yet another clean sheet for the defence and the team who are in a rich vein of form at the moment.
Saron went into this game knowing it was their last of what has been a difficult season. Saron were the strongest team in the first half although it took them a while to get going. Kieron Waters dominated the mid-field and was unlucky not to score direct from a corner when he hit the outside of the post. Curtis Jones proved too hot to handle for Giants Grave’s defence and forced a fine save from the opponents keeper from a well taken free kick. The trio of Jed Danter, Dion Rees Harris in defence and goalie Llion Langford kept Giants Grave at bay in the first half. Saron were quiet in the second half and came under fire after their opponents attacked ferociously for 5 mins, Saron were caught unaware as a corner came in and were punished by Giants Grave scoring, although they were losing Saron’s heads did not drop and were unlucky not to equalize later on during the game when a great passing move saw Tom Brook through but put it just the wrong side of the post. Man of the Match went to Jed Danter for a solid display at the back.
Neath Boys Club 0 Saron
Under 10’s 7 05/04/2008
Saron travelled to Neath
this week and put in another unstoppable performance, which, despite the
bitterly cold conditions didn’t disappoint the travelling supporters.
Saron started strongly - putting the home team under pressure from the off.
However, despite many chances and near misses, Saron failed to put points on the
board in the early stages. Neath took confidence from this and started to turn
the game around – winning possession and taking the game to Saron. A fantastic
save from Harri Criddle prevented the home side scoring. This turn of events
seemed to wake the Saron boys up and saw them taking total control of the game.
Some nifty footwork by Steffan, Aaron and Alex in mid-field provided strikers
Sam and Grant up front with quality ball that they soon started converting into
points. By the end of the first half the score was 0 – 2 to Saron with Sam and
Grant having a goal each.
The second half started as the first had ended with Saron totally dominating the
game. The goals came thick and fast in this half – with Grant scoring another
3, Ethan 1, and a well placed header from captain Aaron Butler taking the final
score to 0 – 7 to Saron. Man of the match for Saron was Steffan Ingram Jones.
The flowing football played by Saron was a joy to watch, with the whole squad gelling and they easily ran out as deserved winners in this match.First half goals were provided courtesy of Matthew Howell, Kieran Wilson and Arwel Gravelle. In the second half Saron dominated possession with some slick passing moves, so much so that, at times Penrhos were left chasing shadows. This dominance resulted in a further 3 goals for Saron all scored from the right boot of hat-rick hero Liam Jeffreys.
Saron
Under 11’s 0 Cwmamman Prostone 3 05/04/2008
This was definitely a game
of two halves in which Saron had a very depleted squad with a number of key
players missing but nevertheless they gave a good account of themselves in the
first half, Stefan, Dion and Jack were competent enough at the back for Saron
and Jamie in the holding position gave Steffan Morris and Cameron a good
platform to attack from and the 2 wingers looked dangerous with ball at their
feet
giving Celllan and Scott chances in this half. As usual Cwm were not to be
outdone always attacked well when the opportunity arose and Saron managed to
keep them at bay for most of the time apart from one slip up at the back
from a corner which gave
Cwm their opening goal Saron went looking for the equaliser and came close on a
number of occasions but the Cwm defence stayed strong. Second half saw Saron
make changes again with Liam, Steffan Davies and Iwan coming on but Saron
struggled to keep possession of the ball after the first minute, Cwm notched up
their 2nd within 5 minutes of the 2nd half and defensively Saron were just
trying to stem the tide after that and not getting out of their half at all and
eventually Cwm got their 3rd and had sealed Sarons fate in a dire 2nd half
performance after a very encouraging 1st half.
This weeks men of the match are "Statman" and Dion.
Saron
finished their season with a flourish, going four games unbeaten in holding
highflying Bryncoch to a deserved draw and effectively handing the Under 14’s
league title to close neighbors Cwmaman.
Traveling
to Clydach to play Inco, Saron were again two goals adrift despite having the
better of the early exchanges. With defensive pivot Rhys Evans missing with a
broken thumb, Saron were a little disjointed.
Bryncoch
Blacks 1 Saron United 8
19.04.08
Saron
were in form and notched up their 6th win in a row with a great
display of football. It was not
long into the game before Saron opened up their account with a fine individual
goal from Tim Chapman. This was
swiftly followed with goals for Matthew Howell and Liam Jeffreys.
Seconds later Chapman got his second and Saron’s fourth.
Before the half time whistle, defender Rhys Price, stepped forward for a
corner and struck a shot from the edge of the box for his first goal of the
season.
Ben
strikes three times to sink Camford -- Saron Colts 7 Camford U7’s 1
The Colts put in their
best performance of the season to send a competitive Camford team to a
comprehensive defeat. Ben Morgan was the star of the show displaying predatory
instincts netting three times from close range!
Camford started the better,
taking the lead through a sloppy goal, but after the first ten minutes the Colts
superior strength started to show. It was into the second half before the
inevitable equaliser came from Rhys Davies. This was followed by a long period
of pressure and the Colts confidence noticeably shot up when Ben got his first
as Saron took the lead. By
this point the Colts were dominating and when called upon Dyfan making his debut
in goal, Dafydd & Thomas in defence & the ever energetic Carwyn were
winning the fifty/fifty challenges. This enabled Nathanial, Rhys and Sean to
string together some flowing passing moves breaking from midfield to delight the
passionate support. Ben ended two of these in quick succession to grab his first
Hatrick and Carwyn with a long range effort into the top corner, Sean who had
earlier been denied by several last ditch clearances including one off the post
and Rhys grabbed his second to end the rout.
If all coaches can send me any match reports on a Sunday night so that I can send them in to the Guardian. Many Thanks
