Saturday 6th September Saron Under 12s 1 Hendy Under 12s 9

Not the best of starts to the season for Saron according to the score line but failure to take their chances and simple errors cost Saron dearly ,it was 0-0 for the first 20 minutes with Saron passing the ball well but failing to find that killer ball in the final third .Saron seemed to grind to a halt in the last ten minutes of the 1st half  conceding 7 goals in no time at all with Sarons midfield totally losing its shape and putting their back four under extreme pressure.the second half was a much tighter affair with Sarons midfield regaining their composure but still failing to put that final pass behind Hendy to get their just rewards for all their great approach work , Hendy pinched another 2 goals late in the 2nd half taking the score line to 9-0 to Hendy .finally Saron managed to get on the score sheet with a well worked goal some good approach play again and Scott laying the ball back for Stefan "Statman" to unleash a thunderous shot into the top corner 9-1 Saron went close shortly afterwards and finished the game strongly but need to start converting their pressure into goals, this weeks man of the match goes to Ryan "the major" at left back.
Saron squad this week:-Rhys "Zebedee", Jamie" the boot", Ryan"the major", Liam, Iwan "Pitbull", Stefan "Statman", Nathan, Seffan "goalmachine", Iwan "easy" Michael, Cameron "Cartwheel", Josh, Cellan, Scott and Corey" the Hitman"

Wednesday 10th September Penrhos Under 12`s 3 Saron Under 12`s 3

Saron made the long midweek journey to Penrhos last Wednesday on the back of a demoralising defeat the monsters needed to get something out of this game which was going to be no easy task ask Penrhos the Saron monsters started brightly with plenty of the ball running and the hit man absolutely on fire going close in the opening minutes, Sarons back four were far more organised and relaxed this time out thanks to the great work and shape of the midfield with the statman pulling the strings in the middle and cartwheel linking with the wingers of easy and goalmachine eventually Sarons dominance paid off with the hitman opening his account 1-0 ,Scott played a nice ball through for the hitman who won a penalty for being clattered in the box giving him goal number 2 ,2-0 Penrhos had no reply to Sarons dominance and Sarons back four of Liam, pitbull, the boot and the major coping well apart from 1 telling cross that was converted at the near post 2-1 saron broke back before half time with a great effort from the hitman giving him his hatrick and Sarons third. Second half saw Saron make changes to the team which proved to be premature and Saron lost its shape giving Penrhos a chance to get into the game saron only played in patches throughout this half giving them a couple of chances to kill the game and get the result but they failed to do so, Penrhos broke through and scored a 2nd 3-2 now Saron put themselves under pressure with some selfish football, Penrhos won a penalty late on in the half but thanks to an incredible save by zebedee in goals they were denied of an equaliser until Saron conceded a free kick on the edge of the area which went in the top corner 3-3 going into the last minute saron had one final chance to take the points but it wasn’t to be 3-3 at the end. Man of the match was the awesome pitbull.

Saturday 13th September Neath Boys Club 3   Saron Under 8’s 2

Saron started strong with good attacking play from the midfield to the strikers, but were unable to finish off their chances. Garin commanded his goal area well but unfortunately Saron were 2-0 down at half time. In the second half Saron’s pressure paid off with some lovely teamwork from Rhys Davies linking up with Sean Howells for Saron’s first goal. Saron went further behind midway through the second half, but finished the stronger with Sean Howells scoring his second goal. A few more chances came Saron’s way but unfortunately they ran out of time. An excellent start to the new season. Well done boys, keep it up.

Saturday 13th September Resolven Under 11's 1 Saron Under 11's 9

Saron traveled to Resolven for their first game of the new season. Saron started the game very strongly with the home side barely troubling the defense of Stephen, Nathan, Matthew and Evan in goal thanks to a strong midfield display by Ethan and Alex. It took 12 minutes for the visitors to open the scoring when Ethan put the ball in the net. This was followed 2 minutes later by a fine goal from Grant from the finest of angles. Shortly after the restart, Ethan broke through the Resolven defense for a good individual goal. Sam and Grant worked well up front and both were rewarded with a goal each before half time to make it 5-0 at the break. The second half saw Harri come on in goal and Stephen and Ethan changed positions. Sam scored his second after Grant broke away in his own half and laid Sam on. Resolven came back into the game a little and scored their only goal 5 minutes into the half. Saron knuckled down again and scored 3 more thanks to Grant (2) and Sam got his third of the game. Saron well deserved the score line in this very physical match. A good start to the season by every player. Well done and keep up the good work.

Saturday 13th September Saron United U 11's 3 Bryncoch U 11's 2

This seasons campaign for Saron began with a tough away match at Bryncoch.  Previous encounters between these two teams had been quite spicy and this one was no exception. It was Bryncoch that took the initiative and got their noses in front with a finely struck goal.  Both sides worked hard to gain possession and inevitably the majority of play was in the middle of the park, with Saron’s captain Arwel Gravelle winning his fair share of tackles.  With Saron gaining in confidence they soon got back into the game, thanks to a goal from speed king Tim Chapman.  This was swiftly followed by Saron's second goal, a great individual effort from Kieran Wilson. The second half began at frantic pace and crucial tackling from Will Treharne kept Saron's noses in front.  Then a great through ball from Rhys Price put Tim Chapman in a position to fly past the Bryncoch defense and finish the move off with a thunderous strike into the back of the net. Then despite great blocks from Will Treharne and solid work from keeper Seon Lloyd, Bryncoch got themselves back into the game with only minutes left on the clock.  Saron found themselves under siege but managed to hold on for a 3-2 win.

Saturday 13th September Cwrtherbert Whites Under12s 0 Saron Under 12s 0

This was pretty much the same from the monsters who kept their shape throughout this encounter but were up against a much more organized back four who managed to just snub out Saron at the death throughout this encounter Saron played some superb football throughout making it an exciting game for both sets of supporters Sarons back four were never really troubled while Sarons keeper took everything in his stride and at the other end the whites defense and keeper were kept busy throughout ,pitbull went on a telling run which just mesmerized the whites until their last man clattered him missing the ball completely saron failed to convert the free kick and it happened again in the second half but this time the hitman was taken out with the ref  playing advantage instead of awarding the free kick minutes later Saron were through on goal only for the keeper to deny Saron they deserved lead but it wasn’t to be Saron finished very strongly keeping their shape throughout and disappointed not to get the 3 points today’s man of the match goes to the outstanding major

 Saturday 13th September Cwm Wanderers Under 14's 4 Saron Under 14's 3

Saron played well in this their first game of the season with Kieran Jones scoring two good goals. Saron played strong football throughout with Dexter Thomas commanding in defence. Saron also had Sion Allen to thank for their third goal, but it was all in vain as Cwm snatched the winner in added time.

Wednesday 17th September Hendy Under 12`s 6 Saron Under 12`s 4

A poor first half performance by Saron found them 3-0 down midway through the first half and fearing another heavy defeat to a Hendy side that had scored 9 against them a week earlier Hendy were allowed to do almost what they wanted due to a weak midfield effort from the Saron youngsters but they weathered the storm until the break. Saron came out all guns blazing in the second half not giving hendy an inch and playing some lovely football and against the run of play Saron found themselves another goal down 4-0 but they did not buckle and soon after Corey found the back of the net for Saron 4-1 and again soon after 4-2 Sarons confidence and ball control grew with each pass Hendy were unable to cope with Sarons flowing football which resulted in Cellan netting Sarons third 4-3 some great football saw Iwan Norrie break through and equalise for saron 4-4 but Hendy rallied and were awarded a dubious penalty which only just evaded the grasp of Sarons keeper Rhys 5-4 and minutes later Saron had a handball decision against them in the box 6-4 Saron went close on several occasions during the dying minutes but to no avail they still search for their first win of the season.

Wednesday 17th September Inco Under 15's 2 Saron Under 15's 4

Saron travelled to Ty Canol playing fields in Morriston with a stronger squad. They fell behind early on when a speculative shot hot a divot to bounce over the diving Aled Thomas who has covered the shot. Saron fired back and a good cross from Nat Wilson was  headed home by Ben Jones. Nat then made a run down the right only to shoot just wide. Josh Davies had to go off with a muscle strain, replaced by Joseph Davies. Owain Roberts was causing the home team problems and could have scored twice but the keeper did well to save. Put clear again he fired home at the third time of asking to put Saron ahead. Rhys Cann covered his centre backs well and Gavin Thomas was having a fine match in midfield. Daniel Ellison and Simon Finn were playing well together making a number of interceptions. A good interchange between Rhys Cann and Steffan Davies put Rhys on the path to goal but the keeper charged out to clear. Ben Jones was a willing outlet for the midfield and chased down the full backs when they ventured forward. A poor clearance was punished by  Inco, chipping Aled from outside the box. This brought an immediate response from Saron,  Owain making a good run down the left and when blocked off, laid the ball back for Nathan Lewis to blast home. Nathan was causing problems down the left with his pace whilst Nat Wilson was in the same mode on the right. An Inco goal kick was blasted back by Rhys Cann over the keeper but unfortunately well wide of the goal. Rhys Evans came on up front and Joe Brooks in defence to replace Rhydian who had a fine game, whilst Josh Davies rejoined the match. Saron had the last word when Josh Davies headed home from a corner. Saron won well but had made heavy weather of the victory. Man of the match for Saron was Gavin Thomas for his industry in midfield.

Saturday 20th September Saron Under 8's 8  Penrhos Under 8's 1

Despite Penrhos turning up very late the Under 8's were quickly into their stride, with Sean scoring the opening goal in the first minute. Excellent passing and movement led to further goals in the first half from Rhys Davies and Carwyn (2). Garin was a spectator in goals in the first half with Dafydd and Thomas clearing anything, which came over the half way line. Connor and Rhys Shaw were unlucky not too score - both hitting the post in the first half. The goals kept on coming in the second half with Sean completing his hatrick and Dyfan surging forward to score two fine goals. Ben and Rhys Davies were denied further goals by some fine goalkeeping and the woodwork coming to Penrhos's rescue again. By this time Saron were 8 nil up and switched off defensively with Penrhos braking forward to score a late consolation. Good team display leading to Saron's first win of the season - well done boys, Ponty here we come!!

Saturday 20th September Saron Under 9’s 2 Pontardawe Whites 2

Saron started in sparkling form, with a superb goal by Connor, however any celebrations were cut short by a very robust Pontardawe, slamming in two goals in 8 minutes. It was a very well taken goal by Daffydd Webb that saved the day. Man of the match was Connor.

Saturday 20th September Saron Under 11's 3 Penrhos Falcons 1

The game opened with end-to-end football and both teams coming close and Harri having to make some good saves. Then 10 minutes in some good passing from Ethan and Steven in midfield and an accurate pass from Sam helped Grant break the dead lock with a well-taken goal. Penrhos equalised soon after. The defence were strong with Owain, Matthew and Nathan working well together. Just before half time Sam put the home side in front with a good assist from Steven. The second half began with Alex coming on and making some strong tackles. Then a big kick from Evan down the field set up a great pass for Sam to finish and tie the game up. Man of the match was Owain

Saturday 20th September Saron U 11's United 0 Bryncoch Yellows U 11's 2

From the kick off it was Saron that created the first goal scoring opportunity, when winger Tim Chapman raced down the line with the ball, producing a fine shot that was well saved by the keeper. Bryncoch then took control and produced several shots on goal but Saron worked hard ensuring they went into the half time break goalless. The second half began as the first had finished, with Bryncoch relentless with their attacks on goal.  Mid-way through the second half, despite brave defending from Will Treharne and an inspirational performance from captain Ari Gravell, Saron finally conceded a goal. Saron tried desperately to get back into the game but their attacks left them vulnerable to the counter attack.  It was one of these such attacks that gave Bryncoch their second goal, which was not what the great performance of keeper Seon Lloyd deserved. Despite this defeat Saron can take heart from the battling performance they produced and on another day they may have come away with at least a draw.

Saturday 20th September Saron Under 12`s 1 Bryncoch Under 12`s 9

Sarons midweek thriller must have drained them completely because they had no answer to an excellent display from a well organised Bryncoch side who were 1-0 up after 5mins but Saron rallied and found an equaliser from Corey 1-1 but Bryncoch soon found the back of the net again 2-1 and another two occasions during the first half with Saron rarely making it out of their own half Corey had a couple of half chances but it wasn’t to be. The second half saw very poor display from Saron unable to contain Bryncochs midfield who netted another 5 goals throughout the half Saron managed to muster 1 or 2 half chances midway through the second half but that was it, Rhys in goals put in an excellent display for Saron despite the score line denying Bryncoch double figures on many occasions with his bravery and agility.
This week’s man of the match goes to Rhys Burch and a special mention to Corey for his tireless work rate throughout.

Saturday 20th September Saron Under 14's 7  Onyllwyn Under 14's 3

Perfect conditions saw Kieran Jones on fire scoring five of Saron's goals with some perfect finishing. Peter Pritchard and Dewi Liiv played excellently in midfield and defence for Saron in an end-to-end game. Finally Saron had too much for Onyllwyn with Steffan Rees and Harry Brook having great chances saved by the keeper. Saron also scored when Connor Thomas made two great runs down the right wing to blast past the keeper. Next week Saron entertain Lonlas.

Saturday 20th September Pontardawe Blacks 6  Saron Under 15s  0

Saron arrived for this game minus three of the players from the win against Inco. With Ponty flying high again this year Saron knew it would be a difficult game for them. Saron should have taken a shock lead when Owain was put clear, but he scuffed his shot and the keeper saved. Saron were chasing everything down and covering well in defence. Daniel, Rhys Evans, Joe Brooks and Rhydian chased the forwards down and had able assistance from Rhys Cann, Gavin, Nat and Josh Davies. Ponty took the lead after fifteen minutes with a poor goal, as Saron should have cleared their lines. Their second was top-drawer volleyed home from outside the box. Ben Jones and Josh Davies combined down the right but Josh’s cross was cleared by the defence. Another chance fell to Owain but the keeper again saved, whilst Ben fired just wide as Saron took the game to Ponty. Saron again lost Josh Davies with a pulled muscle to be replaced by Steffan Davies. The third goal was a killer just before half time when a corner was not attacked by either a defender nor the keeper and the forward chested it over the line. In the second half Saron tried to take the game to Ponty, but the passing of the Ponty players had to be applauded.  A mistake by Aled gave Ponty their forth but he then brought off a flying fingertip save to deny a certain goal. Saron were still trying to play football with Gavin Thomas again the supply line whilst Nat, Rhys Cann and Steffan covered back.  Owain had further chances but was being closely marked by two defenders. One goal bound shot stuck in the keeper’s legs to deny him. Ponty scored twice again late in the game with fine blocks being made by Rhydian, Daniel, Rhys Evans and Rhys Cann. Although the score line looks a heavy defeat, Saron had the chances to make it closer but this was the best Saron have played this season. Full marks to Pontardawe who play some fine football and fully deserved their win. However every Saron player gave 100% in this match and the coaches were well pleased with their approach to this game. Man of the match was Saron was shared by Gavin Thomas and Ben Jones who never stopped running.

Drefach Under'16's 1  Saron Saints Under'16's 6

Saron travelled to Drefach for their first game of the season. The Team started well with Lloyd, Rocky and Spowart in midfield pressuring the Drefach defence. The deadlock was broken when Scott tackled a Drefach defender in the box causing the ball to go into the bottom corner. Drefach then hit back with a well taken penalty. Daniel was strong in goal and was solid when called upon. The defence of Rhys, Jack, Joseff and Aled was strong when Drefach attacked and played good football to set up the midfield. Saron took the lead again with a Corner from Matt who curled it straight in. The third goal came from Kyle who finished with style. The second half started with Saron on the Front foot and they got a fourth goal from Matt who scored a great free-kick. The fifth goal came from good work by David as he set up Liam to cross for Scott to finish well. The last goal came from Jack who finished from a cross into the box. Saron played with a lot of effort in this game and play Johnstown Home next week.

Saturday 27th September Pontardawe Blacks 1 Saron under 8's 1

Saron dominated possession and territory from the off, virtually encamped in Ponty's half for the whole of the first half. Ioan and Thomas cleared anything that came into Sarons half. Unfortunately however players were shooting and dribbling on numerous occasions when a pass to a better placed colleague would have resulted in a better scoring opportunity. Ben had a good chance midway through the half , his shot shaving the far post. Rhys Davies also shot just wide. Shortly after there followed a goal mouth scramble resulting in Saron hitting the post - controversy followed as the ball seemed to have cleared the line - the ref however was not having it !!!!. The second half followed much the same pattern with Saron bombarding the Ponty goal. Successive corners led to a shot well saved from Connor. Rhys Shaw & Davies were attacking constantly down both flanks , the pressure finally told as Carwyn launched a long ball into the Ponty box, the keeper parried the ball, but Sean latched onto the loose ball to clinically finish. However as in previous games the defence pushed to far up the field leaving Dafydd to manfully cover on his own - this resulted in Ponty's one and only chance which looped over Garyn into an empty net. Many positives can be taken from the performance, 100% effort - well done boys.

Saturday 27th September Saron Under 9’s 4 Rhos Rangers 0

For the second week running Saron began the game with attractive attacking football, by now the first weeks cobwebs were fully dusted away, and constant pressure resulted in an early goal for Dylan. Despite non-stop attacking, Rho’s defence held strong until half time. Within minutes of the restart Man of the match Dylan Lewis riffled in a free kick which glanced off Dafydd Webbs head and making it 2-0. Excellent wing play by Gavin resulted in further goals for Iestyn and Cardiff development new boy Connor to put the game out of sight for a gallant Rhos side.

Saturday 27th September Saron Under 10’s 1 Bryn Rovers 2

Saron started the match relatively slow and found themselves 1-0 down in the first couple of minutes.  Although they were loosing, Saron were unlucky not to be equal a few minutes later after a spell of possession saw Saron hit the wrong side of the post after a ferocious strike from outside of the box from debutant Stephen Perry. Bryn then went on the counter attack and caught Saron sleeping as they quickly took a throw, which gave them a 2-0 advantage at half time.  With changes been made at half time Saron kicked off the second half with some outstanding football being played.  Keeper Llion Langford produced some superb saves to keep Saron in the game at one end while Tom Brook caused havoc with Bryn’s defenders and was unlucky not to score not being for a great last ditch tackle from a Bryn player.  Kieran Waters dominated the midfield and got himself a deserved goal when he quickly took a throw in, and it found its way back to him 2 slots past the keeper.  With a few minutes left on the clock saron kept pushing for that vital goal by keeping constant pressure on Bryn and keeping them in their own half although the goal never came.  Man of the match this week goes to Llion Langford.

Saturday 27th September Lonlas Under 12`s 4 Saron Under 12`s 0

Saron made the journey down to Lonlas this week taking on a side considered to be one of the top teams in the league and with Saron still looking for their first win in the league and after a heavy defeat the week before you would think the odds were against them but the scoreline does not reflect the game at all Saron played well throughout the encounter but unlike Lonlas failed to take their chances conceding 2 goals either side of half time the signs were encouraging for Saron who passed and kept control of the ball well with Corey and Steffan Morris looking dangerous up front throughout the 1st half and most of the 2nd and some brave keeping from Rhys, but man of the match Iwan Norrie was the star once again with his blistering pace and impeccable timing when tackling lets hope Saron can build on this and their first win wont be long

Saturday 27th September Saron Under 14's 3 Lonlas Under 14's 5

Saron started slowly with Hugh, Dexter, Carl and Josh working out the fancy football of the Lonlas attack. Saron took the lead after Lonlas had committed too many men up front and Kieran Jones took his chance well to slot the ball past the Lonlas keeper. Lonlas levelled and the second half saw Lonlas press but Ryan Lynch in goal for Saron was in fine form. Saron went further ahead after another fine strike from Kieran Jones. Harry Brook scored a remarkable third goal for Saron after beating three Lonlas players to bend the ball past the helpless Lonlas keeper. The last ten minutes saw Saron throw the game away as they tired in the heat. The credit lies with the Saron boys however for a good all round effort put in. Man of the match award was shared by Ryan Lynch and Kieran Jones.

Saturday 27th September Lonlas Under 15's 2 Saron Under 15's 2

Saron were unlucky to lose Rhys Evans after five minutes with a back strain, moving Rhydian Griffiths to centre back and bringing on Steffan Davies at full back. Both sides were more defensive minded for the first quarter, but Owain Roberts was put clear twice but the keeper saved. Lonlas took the lead with a wicked deflection taking the shot high into the corner and went further ahead with a hotly disputed goal. Their forward was 12 yards offside in the six-yard box when the shot came in but the referee deemed he was not interfering. Saron fought back and chances fell to Ben Jones but again the keeper saved twice whilst Nathan Lewis and Rhys Cann were inches away from in swinging corners from Owain. The passing between the midfield was much better helping to create more space. The half time team talk was to keep doing what they were doing as chances were being created and a goal would come. Within minutes of the restart Owain controlled a headed clearance and hammered a shot home from twenty-five yards. The Saron rearguard of Daniel, Rhydian, Joseph and Steffan were giving nothing away with Steffan making some good tackles and interceptions. He was helped greatly by Nat Wilson who tracked back to help. Gavin Thomas and Rhys Cann again did a lot of hard work in the middle and Nathan on the left started to create chances with his speed in attack. The defending of corners by Saron was much improved and the marking better. Keeper Aled Thomas was in control in the six-yard box punching away a number of in swinging corners and he commanded his eighteen-yard box very well. Chances fell to Owain and Ben but they shot at the keeper, whilst Rhys Cann had a twenty-five yarder plucked out of the air by the keeper. Owain was again put clear and finished well finding the bottom corner from a tight angle to put Saron level.  Lonlas pushed forward but Saron’s defence was firm with Daniel Ellison outstanding in the last ten minutes and Rhys and Gavin were also back to help when danger threatened. Nathan went on a thirty-yard run but his cross was just in front of Ben and Owain. Honours even in the end but a great fight back by Saron and a good team effort. Man of the match was a difficult choice as there were a number of hard working performances. It went to Steffan Davies and Rhydian Griffiths who put up fine displays in unfamiliar positions.

Saturday 27th September Saron Saints Under 16's 2  Johnstown Under 16's 3

Saron started this match strongly after a very good victory against Drefach last weekend. Saron started well with a defence of Jack, Rhys, Joseff and Aled staying strong as Johnstwon attacked. Johnstown took the lead after all their pressing but Saron hit back with a great equaliser as Scott finished well after a well taken corner. David, Liam and Steffan were solid in midfield and didn't stop giving 110% effort. Johnstown took the lead once again just before half-time meaning it was 2 - 1 at the break. Saron started the second half magnificently with Daniel Madge in goal producing fantastic saves. Saron levelled the match with an amazing header by Matt after Nathan played fantastic football down the right. Saron were battling well at the end for a draw but conceded a late winner. Saron were outstanding in this match and were unlucky to come away with nothing.

Wednesday 1st October Saron Under 8's 5 Cwmamman 0

Saron extended their unbeaten run to three games with a dominant display against Cwmamman. The early pressure finally paid off when Carwyn unleashed a powerful long range effort to open the scoring. Natty & Ben had further efforts before Ioan unleashed another long range thunderbolt to make it two nil at half time. After the interval the pressure on the Cwmamman goal continued with Sean putting a header just wide of the post, this was followed by another long range effort from Carwyn which the keeper did well to stop. A quick short corner between Rhys (D) & Carwyn led to Carwyn getting his second of the night. Another high ball into the box saw Rhys (D) scoring from close range. A good passing move led to Saron's fifth with Sean giving the keeper no chance with a shot high into the net. Another good display from the boys with Garin having virtually nothing to do in goal yet again.

Saturday 4th October   Saron U'8s 5  Tonna 0.

Saron continued where they left off after their midweek thumping of Cwmamman, they dominated the game from start to finish. Rhys (D) put Sean through in the opening minutes to open the scoring. Dafydd & Dyfan put in a number of excellent covering tackles as Tonna tried to break into Saron's half of the pitch. A quick free kick led to Carwyn shooting just wide. A succession of corners led to Rhys (D) shooting narrowly wide, the next corner however led to Saron's second goal with Sean shooting into the corner of the net. Rhys (S) was busy on the right wing, tackling and putting balls into the Tonna goalmouth. The second half followed the same pattern, total Saron domination despite playing into driving wind and rain. Thomas had a 'Ronaldo' moment early on breaking from his own half beating several men before putting a dangerous ball into the box. It was not long before Saron got their third goal, the ball broke to Ioan on the edge of the area - he shot instantly giving the keeper no chance. Sean finished off another good Saron move - his second hatrick of the season!!!. Saron did not rest however, a pass by Natty into the box landed at Ben's feet, he turned quickly and shot into the corner. Special mention goes to Garin (keeper), who had nothing to do all game!! Excellent display in very difficult conditions - Saron extending their unbeaten run to four games.

Saturday 4th October Saron Under 9's 3  Bryncoch Yellows 3

This game should have been all over by half-time, instead it was either a poor final ball or a shot just inches past the post which kept Bryncoch in the match.
Making the breakthrough after 10 mins was midfield maestro Dylan Lewis with one of his trademark free kicks, however this only seemed to wake Bryncoch up and on the stroke of half-time they equalized.
With the rain lashing down and the pitch getting heavier by the minute a change in personnel saw Gavin move up front and within 5 minutes a great solo effort by him put Saron 2-1 up. A lack of concentration at the back brought the Yellows back into it and with this momentum they scored another to lead 3-2. The final 10 minutes saw wave after wave of fluid attacking football from Saron with Osian and Dafydd Webb terrorizing the oppositions fullbacks. Man of the match  Andrew Long produced a series of fine saves and it was his long throw that found Gavin Jones on the halfway line who turned, beat the Bryncoch defense and slotted past a despairing keeper to make the final score 3-3.

Saturday 4th October Cwrt Herbert Blues 2 Saron Under 10’s 0

Saron opened the match with some superb football being played in some horrible weather. With the midfield dominating from the start. Saron were unlucky not to take a one nil lead when Luke Morgan had a great chance missed. Jac Phillips came very close then when he returned the keepers goal kick from inside his own half, and was a whisker away from a goal. Jed Danter was fighting for every ball like a mad man and supported the strikers well. Cwrt Herbert then went on the counter and grabbed them selves a goal against the run of play.  Saron were unlucky not to be equal straight after when Calem fed through a ball for Tom Brook who took the ball from midfield to the edge of the box and let rip with a left footed thunderbolt which rocked the crossbar.  Saron were unlucky not to be equal at the interval and chances were few and far between in the second half.  With the defence being solid in the second half and some great work from Jac Philips and Jordan who helped their keeper out when they both put their bodies on the line to clear of the line twice. Cwrt Herbert then got a corner in the last few minutes and got another goal.  Man of the match this week goes to Steven Perry for a tireless display in midfield.

Saturday 4th October Giants Grave 4  Saron U11’s 4

The game was played in terrible weather after a late kick-off. Saron started the game slowly after being kept waiting in the rain and wind for the home team to turn up. Harri started the game in goal with a defense of Owain, Nathan and Evan. Saron came under a lot of early pressure from the home team but managed to open the scoring when Grant found the back of the net. The midfield of Stephen and Ethan battled hard to keep feeding Sam and Grant but Giants Grave managed to equalize and shortly after took the lead with a well worked corner. After the interval, Harri and Evan swapped roles but it wasn’t long before the home side stretched their lead. Graves goalkeeper was a credit to their team as he made several fine stops during the game but Sam found a way through to close the scores up. Shortly after Sam brought the scores even after a lot of Saron pressure paid off. With only minutes to go Giants Grave scored again, against the run of play. Saron never gave up and pressure paid off when they forced a defensive error and an own goal saw the game finish in a draw. Man of the match this week was Stephen Evans for a strong performance in midfield.

Saturday 11th October  Rhos Under 8's 4  Saron Under 8’s 2

Saron traveled to Rhos with a depleted squad, with only one sub available. The game was very evenly matched for long periods of the first half. The defence of Dafydd, Thomas, Ioan and Dyfan in goals performed excellently tackling and covering well. Rhys (D) came very close with a volley from outside the box going just wide. Rhos broke away in the closing stages of the first half and a good finish led to Saron going in one nil down. Rhos scored again in the opening stages of the second half. Saron responded quickly with Sean finishing well to put Saron back in the game. However an unfortunate own goal and a defensive mix up led to two further Rhos goals. Saron kept on attacking and a good passing move led to Rhys (S) finishing well in the closing stages. As in the first half however Saron had a number of promising attacks, but on numerous occasions decided to take on another man when a pass or cross to better placed colleagues would have resulted in clearer goal chances. Chin up boy’s excellent effort by all, your first defeat in 4 games.

Saturday 11th October Saron Under 9’s 4  Briton Ferry 1

Saron were still "asleep" when Briton Ferry scored the opening goal, then they awoke! It was now that Saron started to play their best football to date with Connor Walters using his pace to devasting effect on the right wing and it was his cross that found an inform Dafydd Webb at the far post that brought the scoreline level. 5 mins later Saron scored another, this time Connor didn’t find anyone apart from the back of the net, 2-1 to Saron. Briton Ferry played on the counter attack but this was to no avail as the Saron defence held firm with Aled Lewis commanding the back line who was well worthy of his man of the match award. Just before half -time Saron went further ahead when Alex Speed broke up some intricate passing by the opposition resulting in Osian Easton finding space on the edge of the box and with the ball at his feet, gave the keeper no chance.  The second half was much the same, only this time Saron couldn't quite find the killer pass and it wasn't until midway through the half before Saron extended their lead, excellent one touch football saw Iestyn Rees receive the ball 15 yards out and it was his powerful shot that beat a stranded keeper. Saron U9's fully deserved the praise bestowed upon them by their 2 coaches, well done team.

Saturday 11th October Cwrt Herbert 2 Saron Under 11’s 2

This was a very well contested game from the kick-off with both sides moving the ball well. Sam opened the scoring after 10 minutes for Saron but the home team equalised a minute later when they caught Saron off guard after their goal. This was end-to-end football and Saron took the lead again after 16 minutes when Stephen broke down the wing and supplied a good cross into the box, which Sam slotted into the net. The second half continued the same as the first half ended with some fine football played by both teams. With only 2 minutes to go, Cwrt Herbert took a long throw in which the visitors filed to clear for once and the ball ended in Saron’s net. An excellent game, which was a great advert for U11 football. No man of the match this week as every one on the pitch deserved it.

Saturday 11th October Saron Under 12`s 7 Pontardawe Under 12`s 1

Saron still smarting after their cup defeat last Saturday took on a new look Pontardawe side, saron laid down their intentions from the kick off searching for their first win of the season Steffan Morris going close in the opening 2 minutes and Sarons right back Ryan burying his shot in the back of the net 2 minutes later 1-0 saron became sloppy for the next 5 minutes losing their shape and gifting ponty an equalizer 1-1 that was sarons wake up call and they got back to passing the ball around the park and were rewarded with a goal from Steffan Morris 2-1.then center half Jamie rattled the bar and Corey and Cameron went close on several occasions throughout the half but Josh had the final say of the half with a shot that was too hot for the keeper 3-1 at half time.Saron upped the pace right at the start of the second half with Corey latching onto a deflection and rifling his shot home 4-1, Ponty`s defense were being run ragged as Iwan Norrie broke through from his new position in midfield and scored 5-1 Cameron made it 6 for Saron midway through the 2nd half Saron got goal hungry again and squandered chance after chance with Corey, Cameron Stefan Butler, Iwan Easton and Ryan all missing chances but Corey had the final say bagging his second and Sarons 7th final score 7-1, this weeks "man of the match" goes to Cameron.

Saturday 11th October Saron Under 13's 3 Lon Las 2

Saron won their first game of the season and it was a great team effort. Saron took the lead when Richard Soons took a corner and Ceri Morris rose to glance a header that gave the keeper no chance. It was 1-0 to Saron at the break. The second half saw Saron go 2-0 up when Rhys Morgan hit an unstoppable shot from 20 yards. Lon Las were made to defend hard with Saron going for their third goal and it came when Cameron Jones went past a static defense to score with ease. Saron then went to sleep for five minutes and let Lon Las back into the game to score 2 goals. It was a fantastic last five minutes for Saron who held out for their first win. Man of the match was Rhodri Clarke

Saturday 11th October Saron Saints Under 16's 3  Ammanford Under 16's 2

Saron started this local derby full of confidence and prepared for the challenge ahead. Ammanford started well by scoring 2 quick goals on the break. Saron then came into the game with Jack, Rhys, Aled and Joseff proving to be too strong for the Ammanford attack. The first goal came from Nathan who finished superbly after good work by Kyle. Half Time saw Saron a goal behind. The second half started with Saron playing superbly and dominating the game with Rocky, Jordan and Lloyd working hard in midfield. The second goal came from Matt who finished excellently after a goalmouth scramble. Saron battled superbly to get a third goal and were rewarded when Scott followed up a long-range effort to tap in the winner. Saron had to battle for their lives at the end of the game with Dan Madge pulling off some outstanding saves which earned Saron a tremendous win. Saron thoroughly deserved this victory after all the determination to comeback into the game paid off. Saron play Kruf away next Saturday.

Saturday 18th October Saron Under 8’s 1 LonLas Under 8’s 3

Another cruel result for the Under 8’s, they performed excellently for long periods of the game, spending about 80% of the game in the LonLas half of the field. Saron constantly put the LonLas goal under pressure, a combination of good passing led to a couple of early shots from Rhys and Carwyn going just wide. The LonLas keeper was pulling off save after save, Nat and Ben were constantly closing down the defenders leading to countless corners and throw-ins. On the odd occasion when LonLas did break shackles Daf and Ioan were tackling and cleaning up well. As in last weeks game however LonLas broke and scored, when they hardly deserved it. Saron kept on pressing with the keeper and the post coming to the rescue with shots from Sean and Ben. The second half followed the same pattern and the pressure finally told with Sean finishing well. Garin pulled off some fine saves as LonLas tried to get back into the game. Tom was however left isolated on a number of occasions with his fellow defenders pushing too far up the field, he coped admirably but could hold out no longer as Saron were caught out twice with a wicked deflection and own goal giving LonLas a 3-1 victory. Another fine performance to be proud of. Looking forward to next weeks derby against the Colts

Saturday 18th October Saron Under 9's 2  Bryn Rovers Under 9's  1

Conditions underfoot stifled the usual free flowing football that Saron were used to playing. Hoof it, chase it and hope for the best were the tactics. This paid off, when after 7 minutes Saron took the lead through Connor Walters who found himself unmarked at the edge of the box and his shot gave the keeper little chance. The midfield continually pumped long balls into the heart of Rovers' defence and it wasn't long before Osian Easton latched onto one such pass and made the scoreline 2-0. Bryn didn't give up without a fight and with pressure on Saron's defence led to them pulling one back.
The second half saw Man of the Match Gavin Jones switch to upfront alongside Dafydd Evans and this kept Rovers' defence on their toes, but despite long periods of pressure from Saron, goals failed to materialize. A better performance would be needed for next Saturday.

Saturday 18th October Saron Under 11’s 2 Pontardawe Whites 1

Saron started the game with Harri in goal, Owain, Matthew and Nathan in defence, Alex and Ethan in midfield and Grant and Stephen up front. Ponty though got off to a flyer scoring in the first 2 minutes. This woke Saron up and a tough battle followed with both teams giving 100% and going close on a few occasions during the half. The second half was the same with Saron piling on the pressure. On came Sam up front and Evan in goal. After 10 minutes of the half, Grant broke up the wing and delivered a good ball which Sam made no mistake with. The game was heading for Saron’s third draw in a row when Sam crossed a great ball in from the left and Grant was waiting in front of goal with a good header to take the lead with 2 minutes to go. No man of the match this week again, a great team performance from all Saron’s players.

Friendly Saturday 18th October Rhos Rangers 1 Saron Under 12`s 7

Saron traveled down to Rhos for a mid season friendly hoping to build on last weeks performance this week the Saron's youngsters weren’t quite as polished despite the convincing scoreline Corey opened up Saron's account with a scrappy goal by his standards 1-0 then Iwan Easton finished off some great approach work his first goal of the season 2-0. Rhos capitalized on a huge Saron mistake with a good finish by their striker 2-1 Corey grabbed the game by the scruff and destroyed the Rhos defense time after time he put several balls into the box only to be narrowly missed by the Saron players eventually he was back on the scoreboard 3-1 and Iwan Easton shortly after 4-1 Saron just seemed to miss chance after chance and with Saron defense keeping Rhos pinned in their own half it should have been double figures for Saron before half time-sharing made a number of changes at half time but Saron midfield was totally dominant with Stefan Butler conducting things from the middle but yet again Saron were squandering chances for most of the half until Scott managed to put one away at the back post 5-1 and he picked himself up another on the back post shortly after 6-1 Rhos throughout this half only got past the halfway on 3 or 4 occasions and Iwan Norrie had the last say of the match with a great pickup on the half way and a searing run into the box finished with a great shot 7-1 this weeks man of the match is Corey.

Saturday 18th October Sunnybank Under 14's 1 Saron Under 14's 5

Saron travelled to Sunnybank after a long break with no game in confident mood. Saron started well with Hugh, Dexter, Dewi and Carl in defence not letting any Sunnybank attackers through. Steff, Darren and Josh were solid in midfield and did well to set-up Kieran Jones for his first goal of the game. Kieran then got his second with superb finish from an excellent pass from Connor. The second half started with Ryan performing superbly in goal when called upon. Sunnybank got a goal back but it seemed undeserved as Saron kept pressing for more goals. They got their reward when Connor scored a wonder goal by lobbing the keeper from a long range. Kieran then got his hat trick with a good finish after good work by Sion. Kieran then got another goal with another good finish from a corner. Saron play Treborth next week in the Cup.

Cup Game Saturday 18th October Saron Under 15’s 1 Pontardawe Whites   4

Saron drew the Cup holders in this first round match of the West Glamorgan Cup played at Llandybie.Ponty took the early initiative putting a lot of pressure on the Saron defense.  They created a number of chances but the Saron players defended to a man. Steffan Davies headed a goal bound effort off the line and Rhys Evans and Daniel Ellison also made good blocks. Owain and Ben up front were well marshaled by the Ponty defense who gave little away. Pontardawe took the lead after twenty minutes, their midfielder reacting quicker to a cross ball than the Saron defenders to score from six yards. Saron went close from a free kick from Owain just past the upright. Josh Davies came on to replace Daniel Ellison, who had a knee injury. The visitors went further ahead with a fine twenty-yard effort giving Aled in goal no chance. The Saron midfield of Rhys Cann, Gavin, Nat and Nathan worked hard on defense but could not get forward quick enough to aid the forwards. Saron made some changes just after half time, bringing on Joseph Brooks, Josh Cranfield and Joseph Davies. Ten minutes in Josh Cranfield made a booming clearance and Owain out stripped the Ponty defense to fire home. This resulted in a period of pressure for Saron who threw everything forward looking for the equalizer. Good runs down the flanks from Nathan and Josh Cranfield put Ponty under pressure, whilst Rhydian and Rhys Evans were in fine form in defense as was Josh Davies. Saron were trying hard with a lot of players out of position and were giving the ball away too often but Ponty were sound in defense. Owain was cynically brought down by the last defender, which earned him a booking; he was lucky not to have an early bath. The resultant free kick was high over the bar. Ponty then scored with a breakaway goal to give them breathing space. With Saron pushing players forward trying to claw something back, Aled in goal made some fine saves in the final quarter, one where he changed direction in midair to claw away a deflected shot was top drawer. At the other end Josh Davies laid the ball back to Rhys Cann but his low shot cracked against the base of the post and out into touch. With Saron still pushing forward Ponty scored at the death to seal the match. A fine match well contested. Good performances from Rhys Evans and Rhydian Griffiths at the back but Aled Thomas was Saron’s man of the match with some outstanding saves.

Wednesday 22nd October Saron Under 8’s 6 Saron Under 8 Colts 0

The under 8’s dominated from start to finish with only determined defending from the Colts keeping the score-line down. Ben had the first clear chance, with the keeper saving well at his feet. Jack and Aled deserve a special mention for their excellent defending for the Colts in the first half under sustained pressure. The Under 8’s finally with a long range shot from Ioan. Nat was unlucky with a close range shot rebounding off the post. Nat then fed Ben on the edge of the box with his volley just going wide. The second half followed a similar pattern with Rhys Davies scoring twice from close range. Carwyn then scored direct from a corner, before Sean blasted a shot in from close range making it 5-0. At this stage Garin was allowed to come out from goals, he followed a high ball into the box and scored a cracking header. The Under 8’s kept on bombarding the Colts goal with the closest effort coming from a left foot shot from Sean which skimmed the cross bar. Ethan kept the score-line down pulling off a number of good saves for the Colts.

Saturday 25th October Cwrt Herbert Blacks 0    Saron Under 9’s  1

For a Coach to correctly gauge the ability of his team then you must play the best teams out there. This was done on Saturday when an undefeated Saron side traveled up the M4 for what was to be their sternest test to date. The Blacks started brightly, switching play across both flanks and creating problems at the heart of Saron's defence. Goal keeper Andrew Long was called into action early when he pulled off two point blank saves, this seemed to inspire Saron’s work ethic, they battled for every loose ball, and pressurized the Black's at every opportunity. The breakthrough came after 12 minutes, a quick throw-in from Osian found the run of Iestyn who beat the full back and Saron’s tricky winger Connor Walters that left the keeper rooted to the spot met his cross from the bye-line. Cwrt Herbert went up a gear and their attack brought about two more top class saves from Man of the Match Andrew Long who left the field at half time to a round of applause. With the wind in their faces for the next 20 minutes, Saron played counter attacking football, they did this extremely well, with Iestyn, Osian, Connor, Gavin and Dafydd each taking it in turns to attack Herbert's' defence. The final two minutes seemed like an eternity, and with the Ref playing "Fergie time" Saron held on to take the spoils in a highly entertaining football match.

Saturday 25th October Saron Under 12’s 0 Cimla Under 12’s 8

This clash wasn’t as one sided as the scoreline suggests Saron competed throughout this encounter and had several chances to get on the score sheet themselves but failed to convert them Cimla`s first 2 goals came within 10 minutes of the kick-off twice their striker lost his marker Saron’s keeper Rhys managed to get a hand to both shots but it wasn’t enough, Saron passed the ball well and were able to break up most of Cimla`s play and creating several openings of their own, it remained 2-0 up until the last 5 minutes of the first half when Cimla scored 2 good goals 4-0 at half time. Saron started the second half strongly and were far more organized at the back and yet again creating chances to score sometimes you need a little luck and it wasn’t Saron’s turn on Saturday, 20minutes into the second half Saron conceded an own goal from a scrappy Cimla corner 5-0, 2 minutes later they scored again from a Saron mistake 6-0 Saron fought hard to keep the score down but conceded 2 more goals at the death with last being a 25 yard screamer 8-0 at the end Saron's man of the match is left back Cellan Liiv.

Saturday 1st November Saron Under 8's 3  Bryn Rovers Under 8's 0

As in previous games Saron dominated the possession and territory from start to finish, this time however they got the victory they richly deserved. Saron scored in the opening minute with Sean converting a Carwyn cross into the box. Rhys (D) was next to try his luck with his shot going narrowly wide. Sean then ran from his own half beating 4 players on the way, but his final shot was well saved by the keeper. Daf was organizing his fellow defenders Connor and Dyfan and they cleared anything that came into Saron's territory. When Bryn Rovers did breakthrough they found Garin in excellent form - pulling off two excellent saves. Saron continued to dominate and got their just rewards when Carwyn's dangerous corner beat the keeper at the near post, making it two nil at the break. Despite a number of changes in the second half Saron continued to pepper the Bryn Rovers goal. Ben beat his man before firing a shot at the keeper, resulting in a corner. Although cleared initially, Sean picked the ball up before beating his man and finishing well. Ben had another shot deflected just wide, with Carwyn and Sean coming close again. Tom and Ioan swept up anything that came near the Saron half.  At this stage Bryn had a player controversially sent off for repeatedly fouling!!!! - Pleasing to see the boys playing as a team with everyone trying to pass the ball where possible. Another couple of wins and the coaches get a soaking.....

Saturday 1st November Saron Under 9’s 3 Rhos Rangers  1

Saron were slow out of the blocks for this intriguing encounter and quickly found themselves on the back foot. Rhos scored within the first 5 minutes and could have scored another 2 minutes later but for some last ditch tackling from Aled and Dylan. Osian Easton was brought on after 10 minutes and this seemed to spur Saron on. Saron then equalised 4 minutes later when Connor Walters lobbed the keeper from 20 yards out. The second half saw even more pressure from Saron and they were virtually camped in Rhos' own half. Man of the match Dafydd Evans could have had a hat trick but for some excellent saves from Rhos' custodian but he couldn't stop Osian from making it 2-1 thanks to some brilliant one touch football between Iestyn, Connor and Gavin. The match was over as a contest when with 5 minutes remaining Gavin Jones made it 3-1 to Saron. This was the best footballing performance to date and long may it continue.

Saturday 1st November Saron Under 10’s 0 Glyneath 5

Saron started the match well and looked the more dangerous of the two sides with a solid defence and a battling midfield display Saron were unlucky to go 1-0 down when Glyneath had time and space to cross the ball in the box.  After this Glyneath found form and Saron battled well against a strong team.  Tom Brook had a great chance at goal in the first half after some good work down the left hand side by Jed Danter and Calem.  Glyneath then went on the counter and caught Saron sleeping to make it 2-0.  From the kick off Saron played a lovely combination of passes with some lovely one two's between Kieran Waters, Tom Brook and Calem. After a number of fine saves from keeper Llion Langford, Saron were unlucky to be 3-0 down at half time.  Second half saw a great improvement in performance as Saron battled well and got into the game.  With the defence trio of Jed Danter, Jordan and Steven and sub Rhys coming on Saron looked solid.  Glyneath got them on the score sheet again with an unstoppable shot.  After some brave defending at the near end Saron let a goal in at the end to make it 5-0.  Man of the match this week goes to Jed Danter for a tireless display.

Saturday 1st November Bryncoch Blacks 0  Saron Under 11’s 7

It was a cold morning in Bryncoch but the visitors got off to a great start, after a week off, when 5 minutes in Sam opened the scoring. Saron were short of defenders this week so Ethan stepped into an unfamiliar role on the right with ‘new boy’ Lewis on the left and Nathan in the middle of what proved to be a strong defensive line-up. Harri pulled off a fine save during the first half to keep the home attack at bay. Alex and Stephen worked hard in midfield to supply quality ball for Sam and Grant up front. Sam doubled his tally on 10 minutes with a good solo effort and 2 minutes later Stephen also broke away and finished well. After about 15 minutes, Grant broke down the left and supplied an excellent ball for Stephen to grab his second. Halftime, 4-nill to Saron. Evan came on in goal for the second half with Ethan and Alex swapping roles. 5 minutes into the half Sam got his third after breaking away down the middle of the field. Evan pulled off a couple of good saves as the home side put the pressure on but the Saron defence held strong. Sam got his fourth with a fine left foot strike and with only seconds remaining he snuck another with a speculative shot off the touchline. Had it not been for the fine form of the Bryncoch goalie the score would have been a lot more. Another excellent team performance with a special mention for Ethan who laid on a lot of good ball for his midfielders and strikers. Well-done lads.

Saturday 1st November Cwrt Herbert Blacks Under 12`s 8 Saron Under 12`s 1

Saron were without 3 of their first choice players for this match against one of the biggest sides in their division but Saron started really well defending and attacking really well in the first 15 minutes one such well worked attack resulted in a free kick to Saron 5 yards out which was converted by Corey 1-0 to saron. Saron failed to settle from the kick-off and conceded 20 seconds after scoring 1-1, 5 minutes later it went down hill for Saron as they conceded another and 3 more before the end of the half 5-1 at half time. Saron managed to string some attacks together during the first 15 minutes of the 2nd half but not enough to count as those players missing really started to show as they conceded 2 more goals in quick succession 7-1 and later a penalty to finish the game off 8-1, this weeks man of the match goes to Ryan at right back.

Saturday 15th November Saron Under 8s 3  Bryncoch Yellows 4.

Saron continued their run of excellent performances but unfortunately lost this 7-goal thriller. The first few minutes were very even until Saron forced a number of corners and dominated for long periods – as in previous games however the visitors grabbed the first goal with a long range effort going beyond Garin in goals. Saron responded excellently with Nat and Ben closing down the defenders freeing the ball for Sean to cross into the path of Rhys (D) to grab the equalizer. Dafydd was having another superb game at the heart of defence tackling and blocking well.  Ben then ran the length of the Bryncoch half but as he was preparing to shoot he was tackled well. Bryncoch responded with another long-range shot sneaking into the corner, making it 2-1 at half time. The second half began similarly with Saron performing well as a team, Sean broke into the Bryncoch half only to be held back by the defenders – from the resulting free kick and goalmouth scrabble Sean stabbed home from close range. Connor and Tom were tackling well, poor clearances however led to two sloppy goals being conceded making it 4-2 to Bryncoch. Saron refused to give in and an excellent passing move between Carwyn, Ben and Rhys (D), led to Sean scoring the best goal of the game. Saron continued to press forcing corner after corner. Sean came close with a bicycle kick just going over the bar. An excellent team performance with the boys performing superbly against arguably one of the best teams they will face. A Bryncoch supporter commented that " Saron were the best team they had played against this season"….

Saturday 15th November Saron Juniors Under 10 2 Bryncoch Yellow’s Under 10's 3

Saron came into this match looking to impress, but failed to get going in the first half.  With a great defensive play at the start of the game with Jac Phillips making some excellent work down the right hand side meant that Saron were not short of chances with balls being fed for Calem up front and Jed Danter in left midfield.  Saron were then unlucky to go a goal down in the first 5 minutes.  Bryn then went on the offensive and hit Saron with another goal straight after. With a goal keeper injury Saron were forced to change and Rhys was called in early and produced a fine save to keep the team in the game.  Steven then started to pull the strings in midfield and was unlucky not to get himself a goal after a string of chances.  With Jac and Jed playing well in the first half Jac was unlucky not to score when he hit the crossbar after a throw from Jed.  Bryn got their third unexpected before half time. With changes been made at half time Saron came out for the second half and meant business from the start.  Scott was unlucky not to get his name on the score sheet when his shot was seen just wide of the mark.  With Saron in complete control they were rewarded for this later on when Kieran got himself a goal in a early contender for goal of the season.  Saron kept on the pressure with some long throws from Steven with Jed and Kieran battling for every thing.  Saron were then left with more hope of a comeback when Kieran doubled his tally in the game after a pin point corner from Jac Phillips found Kieran unmarked for a header to goal.  The determination shown by the Saron players to find that equalizing goal, was clear to see but time was not on their side unfortunately.  Man of the match this week went to Jac Phillips after a great first half and set up a goal in the second.

Saturday 15th November Saron Under 11’s 4 Tonna Under 11’s 3

Saron started this week with Harri in goal, Owain, Nathan and Matthew in defence, Stephen and Alex in the middle and Sam and Grant up front. Tonna were first out of the blocks though and deservedly took the lead after 5 minutes while the home team were still sleeping. This shook up Saron and they started to play a little. The equaliser came from Grant 2 minutes later and 5 minutes after that Saron took the lead from a long shot by Stephen. The second half started with Evan in goal, Ethan in midfield and Lewis in defence instead of Harri, Alex and Nathan. Tonna once again came out of the blocks first and equalised after some sloppy defensive work by Saron after just 2 minutes of the half. 3 minutes later though Sam hit a good long-range shot to beat the Tonna keeper. A few minutes later, Steve broke down the right wing and crossed in a fine ball for Ethan to tap in. The game still wasn’t over though as Tonna threw everything at Saron and got the goal they deserved with 3 minutes left after breaking down the wing and the home side failing to clear. This led to a frantic end to the game and the home side were a little fortunate to hold on to the win. A poor performance by Saron this week compared to recent weeks but still unbeaten this season. A special word for the Tonna defence who played extremely well and were up to almost everything Saron threw at them.

Saturday 22nd November Cimla Blues Under 8’s 2 Saron Under 8's 3.

A very depleted squad headed up the Neath valley, with 5 players missing - as a result many of the boys had to play in unaccustomed positions. Garin pulled off a couple of early saves keeping Saron in the game. Saron soon found their feet with Dyfan, Ben and Sean running the midfield. Tom saw an early effort well saved by the keeper, he followed this up with an excellent run and shot - only to be denied by the post. Dafydd and Ioan were defending well sweeping and clearing anything dangerous. Dyfan and Sean both hit the post again, the ball seemingly not running for the boys. A good long-range shot from Cimla saw Saron undeservedly going in 1-0 down at half time. A tactical reshuffle from coach Howells at the break seemed to do the trick, a long ball from defence was well taken by Ben, he then turned his man and fed Sean who shot across the keeper to bring the scores level. Saron kept on pressing and were rewarded further - Ben shooting from long distance to make it 2-1. At this point Garin was a spectator in goals as Saron continued to press but could not push home their superiority. They were made to pay as Cimla broke into the Saron half, a number of failed clearances led to Cimla equalising. Time seemed to be running out, but the boys refused to give up. Sean beat his man and rifled a shot against the post, Ben was quickest to react, smashing in from close range to make it 3-2. Superb performance, 110% effort from all - including the parents!!!!

Saturday 22nd November Saron Under 9’s 1   Cwmamman Under 9’s 0

After missing the previous 2 weeks due to bad weather, Saron were looking forward to getting back to winning ways. Unfortunately Saron didn't quite live up to past performances and were subdued by a gallant and at times tricky Cwm outfit. Chances were few and far between for both teams, but it was man of the match Jac Price who made sure there was no way through for the Cwm attack. Alex Speed continues to grow with each game and it was his first time shot that just crept passed the post. The deadlock however was broken on the stroke of half time when Iestyn Rees found the back of the net from 18 yards out with an unstoppable shot. With the second half now underway Saron's attack was thwarted on occasions with some resolute defending with several attempts at goal being blocked by Cwmammans defence. Saron did see plenty of the ball but poor passing led to their inability to put the match out of sight. With time running out Saron’s defence held on to take the spoils. Many thanks go to Cwmamman who kindly accommodated this fixture due to Saron’s pitch being unplayable.

Saturday 22nd November Rhos Rovers 6, Saron Under 11’s 0

This week saw Saron travel to Pontardawe to play their first match on Astroturf. From the first kick of the ball it was plain to see that the well-drilled Rhos side were well used to the fast pace and bounce of the Astroturf surface. The home side went 2 up in 5 minutes and were firmly in control. Saron tried to fight back but were beaten every time by the movement of the ball. By half time it was 4-nill to Rhos. The second half saw Saron try to get back in the game but it was the home side still firmly in control. Some better football by the visitors saw Saron go close a few times but the match finished 6-nill to Rhos, which did not give credit to Saron who battled well in unfamiliar conditions. Full credit to Rhos Rovers who played well on the firm, fast surface.

Saturday 22nd November Saron United Under 11’s 5 Neath Boys Club Under 11’s 2

Saron began in style, playing some lovely football, which enabled them to dominate the early stages.  This possession and team passing gave striker Kieran Wilson opportunities on goal, resulting in two lovely taken goals.  Saron then sat back on their 2-goal lead and this proved costly as Neath scored two goals themselves to go into the break 2-2. In the second half Saron started the same way they had finished the first half, by allowing Neath too much possession, but with goalkeeper Sean Lloyd in top form, and Saron’s defenders giving 100%, Neath couldn’t convert this possession into goals. Saron eventually got their rhythm back and some great interplay between midfielders Ashley & Liam, resulted in further goals for Tim Chapman, Ollie Dymond and debutant Tomos Williams.

Saturday 29th December Cwmamman Under 12`s 6 Saron Under 12`s 0 (friendly)

With their league fixture called off due to the weather conditions both teams decided to play a friendly match down at Ammanfords Astroturf facility, Saron managed to stem some early pressure from Cwmamman and create 1 or 2 chances of their own but not being able to capitalise on them. Cwm finally opened the scoring midway through the first half and added a further 2 before the half was over despite the efforts of some of Saron’s defending who were missing some key players at the back due to illness and other commitments. Second half saw much of the same from Cwm with Saron struggling to get to grips with the hard surface, Saron saw 1 golden opportunity slip by despite the efforts of Iwan Norrie and Cwm managed to convert another 3 chances 6-0 to Cwm which was a harsh scoreline on stand in keeper Dion Bale for Saron and all the Saron defence and especially man of the match Nathan Parry.

Saturday 6th December Cwmamman Under 8’s 0 Saron Under 8’s 4

The Under 8's returned to winning ways with a comfortable victory in this local derby. Cwmamman were on the back foot from the off with Saron passing and moving well. Carwyn Morris was posing a major threat with his superb long throws - his first one fell to Sean in the box who neatly beat the keeper at the near post. Saron kept up the pressure with another long throw headed on by Rhys (D), this fell to the feet of Ben who slotted it home into the corner past the keeper. Another two long throws caused havoc in the Cwmamman box - with Sean scoring two better-taken goals to complete his hatrick in the first half. With the game won Saron made changes at the interval with the team being reshuffled - giving the chance for the boys to play in unaccustomed positions. Rhys (D) broke into the Cwmamman half and had his shot well saved by the keeper. Cwmamman had one rare attack with a shot hitting the outside of the post. Thomas came closest to adding to Saron's goal talley, shooting narrowly wide. Overall an excellent team performance, with passing and moving being the order of the day.

Saturday 13th December Giants Grave 2 Saron Under 15's 5

Saron travelled to Parc Newydd with a number of players missing, fielding a bare eleven. They put up a spirited performance against a physical Giants Grave team. The visitors started with a bang, Rhys Cann threading a pass between the centre backs for Owain Roberts to outpace the defence to score. Minutes later Steffan Davies was put clear down the right, his shot hitting the upright and go in off the retreating defender’s shins. Giants pulled a goal back after 15 minutes when a mix-up in defence gave them a chance to convert. Owain was put clear again to finish clinically to give Saron a two-goal cushion once again. Giants attack was causing problems but Rhys Evans, Daniel Ellison, Rhydian Griffiths and Joseph Brooks kept them at bay and they could only shoot from long range. Aled Thomas in the Saron goal was well positioned to deal with the shots getting his body behind the ball. Steffan was put clear again by Rhys Evans but his lovely chip from just outside the box was a foot over the bar. Good work by Josh Cranfield on the left gave Gavin Thomas a chance and he hammered a shot from twenty yards to further increase Saron’s lead. Josh Davies had come from his sick bed to make up the Saron eleven and he made two fabulous headed clearances from corners to ease the Giants pressure, as well working hard in midfield. Rhys Cann and Gavin covered every blade of grass whilst Daniel and Rhys Evans provided good cover for their full backs keeping it simple. Owain was put clear again and confidently rounded the keeper to complete his hat trick. Giants pulled one back with a good finish by their number ten, who caused Saron problems all afternoon. Owain was put out of the game with an awful challenge from the Giants keeper, who got away without even a booking and was a passenger for the rest of the match. Daniel, Rhys Evans, Rhys Cann, Josh Davies and Gavin were always in the thick of the battle and the defence put up a fine display. Josh Cranfield almost scored when the keeper miskicked; Steffan chased his shot and chipped in from out wide but just cleared the bar. Josh then put Rhys Cann clear with a good run from midfield but he was just offside. Man of the match for Saron went to Owain, however he was run close by a number of players who gave everything.

Saturday 20th December Resolven Under 8’s 0 Saron Under 8's 3.

The Under'8s continued where they left off last week after their 7-0 win over Cwrt Herbert, with Connor grabbing not only his first goal but a hatrick!!! All the early pressure came from Saron with Ben getting in the first shot on goal. Carwyn's long throws were causing trouble again, with Resolven not knowing how to deal with them. An excellent passing move involving Rhys (D) and Sean let to Carwyn striking a shot against the post. The following corner led to a goalmouth scramble with Ben's shot being well saved by the keeper. Rhys (D) intercepted a pass and broke forward quickly; he passed to Ben in the box, who gave the keeper no chance with a low shot into the corner. Any attacks by Resolven were well dealt with by Ioan and Tom - both covering each other excellently. The second half began in similar fashion, Sean breaking well and rifling a shot in on goal - the keeper saved well, but Connor was on hand to tap in the rebound. Rhys (D) had two good headers go narrowly over the bar. Garin was called into action in the second half, saving bravely at the feet of the Resolven attacker. The Resolven keeper was pulling off save after save, but Sean finally got the goal he deserved - beating the defenders to a loose ball to notch up Saron's third goal. An excellent result against a very physical Resolven side, with Saron's greater footballing ability winning the game. An excellent first half to the season, with the boys improving with every match. A great start to the festive celebrations !!!

 Saturday 20th December Saron Under 9's  0 Penrhos Under 9's  0

I

If any neutrals turned up to watch this match then they would have left thoroughly entertained with end to end attacking football. The result could have finished 5 each but no goals meant that both sets of keepers had a blinder. Defenders Jac, Ffion and Aled again were very strong stopping everything that came their way. Dylan controlled center midfield leaving Connor and Dafydd Webb to attack the flanks. Alex and Dafydd Evans continued to create problems up front and Gavin's shooting made the keeper work several times.  Andrew continued his fine season with another clean sheet and Man of the Match, Goalkeeper Cian Anderson rounded off the new season without conceding a single goal. Due to poor weather  the U9's only played 9 games since September but were unbeaten with 6 wins and 3 draws. Many thanks to Terry, all the players and parents for everything, Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year to you all...

Saturday 20th December Saron United Under 11 1  Rhos Under 11’s 3

In the first half Saron were quickly undone by the astro-turf pace and the sharpness of the Rhos attack, conceding 3 early goals.  To be fair to Saron the early goals could have destroyed their confidence but they kept on battling and with great defending from Kieran Wilson, Rhys Price & Morgan Phillips they didn’t concede another goal and went into the break 3.0 down. The second half was a more even affair with Saron producing their own goal scoring opportunities, the best of which falling to Ashleigh & Jake.  It looked as though neither team would score again but Saron then got their just rewards when Tomos Williams finished a fine move by rifling the ball into the net. There were further shots on goal at both ends, but Sarons keeper Seon Lloyd was in no mood to let anything else past him and even when he was beaten Kieran Wilson was on hand to make a couple of fine goal line clearances.

Wednesday 14th January Saron Under 8’s  9  Cwmamman Under 8’s  0

Due to numerous cancellations, a friendly was arranged to give the boys some match practice. Saron dominated from start to finish, they were superior in every aspect. All the squad had a runout , many adapting well to playing in unaccustomed positions. The first goal was a defensive mix up leading to on own goal - goals followed at regular intervals, with Sean netting four, Rhys(D) three, and Ben getting the other in the closing minutes. Another good runout, proving that Saron are getting stronger with each game, many of the goals were the products of good team passing and interplay. Fingers crossed the weather improves so the season can re-start.

Saturday 17th January Pontardawe Whites Under 9’s 3 Saron Under 9’s  2

This was Saron’s second match in two months, but despite rustiness the team showed plenty of enthusiasm and determination. Saron fell behind to a well-taken goal by the whites' winger only for Saron to reply a few minutes later through Dafydd Webb after some excellent work from man of the match Alex Speed. After the interval a few changes in personnel gave Saron the upper hand and with Gavin playing further forward this resulted in him having a goal for his hard efforts. With only a couple of minutes left on the clock, 2 defensive errors not normally seen from Saron’s back line gave the Whites their few and far between chances and they took them well, leaving Saron tasting defeat for the first time since 12th April 2008.

Saturday 17th January Rhos Rangers 1 Saron Under 11’s 9

A big thanks to Cwmamman for allowing the game to be played at Cwmamman Park due to Rhos being waterlogged.

Saron took an early lead after 2 minutes when Sam struck the back of the net and Stephen doubled the lead a few minutes later. Rhos settled down after that, although there were a few near misses by Grant and Sam, half time came at two- nil to Saron. The second half got under way and Saron meant business. Within 5 minutes, both Steve and Grant had scored. Rhos got one back against the run of play. It was one way traffic now with Saron ruling the game. More goals from Grant (2), Sam (2) and Ethan saw the game finish at 9-1.

Saturday 17th January Bryn Rovers Under 11's 1   Saron United Under 11's 2

Both team contributed to a pulsating game of football with the action literally flowing from one goalmouth to the other. Bryn scored first mid-way through the first half.  Try as they might Saron couldn’t find the finish they needed to equalise and went in at half time one nil down. The second half proved just as exciting again chances being created by both teams.  This time Saron did beat the Bryn keeper with Liam Jeffreys firing in after a well-worked move.  Minutes later Saron scored again when Arwel Gravelle managed to get a toe on the end of a corner kick.  With Saron’s defence remaining strong, a goal line clearance from Kieran Wilson and with keeper Lloydi pulling out all the stops, they managed to hold out for a two one win.

Saturday 24th January Saron Under 8's 1  Neath Boys Club Under 8’s  4.

Saron lost out in a very closely fought match, with the final scoreline flattering Neath somewhat. The opening exchanges were very even with both teams competing well. Several missed opportunities to clear led to Neath opening the scoring. Saron reacted well with Sean, Rhys (D), Ioan and Ben all inter passing well in midfield trying to work an opening. A good tackle in midfield by Sean fell to Ben who beat two men to earn Saron their first corner. The corner was cleared, but Dyfan recovered well to feed Sean who finished well to make it all square. Neath went on the attack again, with a long range effort beating Garin into the corner. As at the start of the season however Tom was more often than not being left on his own at the back, often being outnumbered - but performing admirably. Saron started the second half well with Rhys (D) and Ben both forcing good saves from the Neath keeper. Garin was also playing well in goal pulling off some fine saves. Saron kept on pushing, but all the Neath players to their credit were all committed and did not give an inch - unlike some of the Saron squad who failed to live up to recent performances. Neath nicked two further goals at the end.

Saturday 24th January Rhos Rangers Under 9’s 1   Saron Under 9’s  2

Yet another Saturday falling foul to the weather for what was supposed to be a home match for Saron! Nonetheless, to give the players much needed playing time, the fixture was reversed and the match was played on Astroturf at Pontardawe's Leisure Centre! From the whistle it was Rhos who started the brighter, with some delightful one touch football, which left Saron chasing shadows for the first few minutes! It wasn't long before Rhos capitalised on this fluidity and went into a 1-0 lead. As usual, every time Saron fall behind they react in the only way they know, by playing better football. Dylan Lewis started the fight back. It was his excellent vision that found an unmarked Osian on the right wing that crossed for Dafydd Webb to level the scores. After the restart Saron were now in control, but for excellent defending from Rhos the scoreline could have been a few more. Yet constant pressure ultimately tells and Saron went on to score the winner when Man of the Match Dafydd Webb latched onto a through ball and rifled the ball into the top corner.  The Leisure Centre was booked for a full 2 hours and by prior agreement between the coaches more games were arranged. Bryncoch travelled down with their 2 teams and Saron played both their "Blacks" and "Yellows". In the first encounter versus the Blacks, Saron again were a little slow from the kick-off and quickly found them a goal behind. Despite this the boys gradually got back into it and tested the opposing keeper several times. Unfortunately for Saron a deflected shot from the Blacks found the back of the net and Saron now had an uphill struggle. The second half was an excellent example of "proper" football with both sets of strikers testing the goalkeepers but it wasn't until the final minutes before Saron got the goal they deserved when Connor Walters crossed from the right wing to find Gavin Jones who then beat his marker and slotted home. In the next game against the "Yellows", it was roles reversed as Saron started the better and Dafydd Webb completed his mornings' hat trick with a well-taken strike. The "Yellows" now woke up and started playing excellent football, however Saron capitalised on a miss pass and broke free with several one touch passes before Gavin Jones slotted passed the keeper. Bryncoch came back well and fully deserved a goal on the stroke of half time. After the restart Connor continued to cause problems down the right and it wasn't long before his efforts were rewarded for the team when his cross was met by Alex Speed to score his first for the club. This was the 3rd meeting between these two sides and neither have been victorious, this was due to a never die attitude from the "Yellows" and in the final 6 minutes they scored 2 very well taken goals even if the scorer was wearing "pink boots". Final result on the day 3 - 3. Many thanks go to coaches of Rhos and Bryncoch in making the morning highly enjoyable for players, parents and spectators.

Saturday 24th January Saron Under 12’s 1 Cwrt Herbert Whites Under 12’s 3

This was only the second game Saron have played since November 1st last year but even though the scoreline suggests that Saron were rusty that was not the case how they ended up losing this game was unbelievable Saron dominated for 20 minutes of the first half even after conceding an early goal they just didn’t have their shooting boots on they even missed an open goal Saron trailed for most of the first half despite their dominance and Iwan equalised just before halftime 1-1 at the break. Second half was as dominated by Saron as was the first but after 10 minutes Saron found themselves 3-1 down 1 to a defensive blunder and another to a speculative shot from outside the area but still Saron continued to dominate with Cwrt’s keeper having a blinder and stopping everything, Saron should clearly have been out of sight but couldn’t beat the keeper they even failed from the penalty spot it was obvious that it wasn’t their day but they kept trying right up to the final whistle. Today’s man of the match goes narrowly to Steffan Morris for his role as part of hard working midfield .

Saturday 31st January Penrhos Under 8’s 0  Saron Under 8’s  3

Saron travelled to Penrhos with an extremely depleted squad - 4 players and 2 coaches down! This did not stop them totally dominating the game however, and only the excellent Penrhos keeper kept the score down. Carwyn and Ioan controlled the midfield area, but were finding the 7 Penrhos defenders tough to get through. The breakthrough came halfway through the first half; the ball broke to Rhys (S) in the area who shot into the corner past the keeper. Saron were unlucky not to score again with Ben coming the closest with his shot going narrowly wide. The second half followed much the same pattern with Saron pressing from the start. Carwyn hit a long-range thunderbolt giving the keeper no chance to make it two nil. Ben was again unlucky with some neat touches leading to a shot well saved by the keeper. The third finally came from a cleared corner; the ball fell to Dyfan just outside the box, his shot proving too powerful for the keeper. Dafydd swept up well at the back, clearing any threatening balls. Such was Saron's dominance that Garin the keeper did not touch the ball at all. Thanks to Aled from the Colts who was a busy second half sub.

Saturday 31st January Bryncoch Yellows Under 9’s 3 Saron Under 9’s 5

Man of the Match Connor Walter's hat-trick fired Saron to a stunning win over Bryncoch Yellows. Saron controlled the early proceedings and deserved their lead when attacking pressure from Dafydd Evans led to an own goal, a few minutes later Connor slotted into the corner to make it 2-0. After the restart and despite playing with the wind Saron failed to build on this commanding lead and slowly let the "Yellows" back into the match and within 5 minutes they had drawn level. Another failed opportunity to easily clear their defensive lines meant that with 8 minutes left Saron were now trailing 3-2. A couple of stern words from the coach brought about a better playing ethic and Saron quickly equalised when Connor cut in from the wing and blasted the ball into the top corner. Saron were now in the ascendancy and played excellent one touch football resulting in a goal for Gavin Jones after yet another fine cross from Connor. Just before the final whistle Connor put the game beyond doubt when he rifled home his 3rd and Saron's fifth.

Saturday 31st January Saron United Under 11’s 2  Penrhos Under 11’s 1

All of Saron’s squad of 15 players contributed to a wonderful game of football and a deserved win for the home team. Saron started strong and forced Penrhos into some desperate defending, with numerous goal scoring chances being scorned.  Eventually Saron penetrated the in-form Penrhos keeper with a fine strike from squad captain Arwel Gravelle. Penrhos fought back and produced their own scoring opportunities but great saves from Lloydy in goals kept Saron’s noses in front.  Just before half time the Penrhos striker pounced on a scuffed clearance for their equaliser. In the second half Saron passed the ball from one end to the other and a wonderful team move was finished off when Tim Chapman struck a sweet half volley to make Penrhos’ net bulge.  Some wonderful play ensued from both teams, but both defences were too determined to let any more goals in and Saron wound up winners 2-1

Saturday 31st January Glynneath Under 11’s 2 Saron Under 11’s 6

Saron got off to such a bad start it was as if they were still sleeping. The home side took the lead after 6 minutes and doubled it on 12 minutes. That’s how it stayed until 18 minutes of the half when Alex got a Saron’s first after a goalmouth scramble. This acted like an alarm clock for the visitors when Sam broke away less than a minute later to equalise. Almost from the restart Stevie broke away and finished the move to make it number 3 and from the start again Saron got the ball to Alex who finished off well. Saron went in 4-2 up at half time thanks to a crazy 3 minutes. The second half started with Saron looking strong again having made some changes. They got into their stride not letting the home side play football. On 7 minutes of the half Josh found himself in possession in front of goal and finished off well to get his first for the team.2 minutes later Sam broke down the left wing and delivered a perfect cross which found Steve waiting in the area to finish it off well. Glynneath tried to come back into the match but Saron were just a little to well organised to let it happen. Man of the match was Grant who had an excellent game.

Saturday 31st January Resolven Under 15’s 1 Saron Under 15’s 2

Saron applied the early pressure and missed a number of early chances. Resolven however didn’t make it easy for them and defended to a man. The Saron back four of Daniel, Rhys Evans, Steffan and Rhydian were solid but when danger threatened Gavin and Rhys Cann from the centre of midfield were back to help avert the danger. Ben and Owain chased down the Resolven defenders and Nat and Josh Davies were making inroads down the flanks. A good ball down the left from Nat was chased by Rhys Cann. He beat the full back and cut in but his ball across to Ben was just cut out by the centre back. Saron took the lead after twenty minutes, Nat picking up a pass from Gavin and laid it inside to Josh. Josh found Ben in the box and he passed to the unmarked Owain who made no mistake. Saron had a number of chances before half time but just could not get a shot away. Resolven hit the post late in the half but Rhys Evans was on hand the clear the rebound. Joseph Davies came on for Saron and made a fine run up the right. Early in the second period a superb cross-field ball from Nat found Ben, but on his wrong foot he shot wide. Owain and Nat had further shots but the keeper saved. With the wind and the slope in their favour Aled in the Saron goal had to be quick off his line to deal with the through balls, but Daniel and Rhys Evans were always there to protect him. A headed clearance fell to Gavin on the edge of the box and his volley took a wicked deflection off the defender’s back to finish in the top corner. Resolven fought back and from a corner scrambled a goal back. Saron pushed on and Josh Davies brought a good save from the home keeper and a good run up the left from Rhydian was plucked out of the air with Ben and Owain hovering. Resolven again pushed forward down the right but Rhys Cann had seen the danger and played his way out of trouble with Rhydian and Josh. Saron has a piece of good fortune when a great shot smacked the crossbar and Aled dived on the rebound. Joe Brooks came on for Saron and caught a full-blooded clearance in the face but game fully carried on with a smashing black eye. A mix up in defence late on gave the home side a chance but again Rhys Cann and Gavin were on hand to clear. Some good football from both teams, some good passing from Saron and a deserved win with a terrific hard working display from the four Saron midfielders. Man of the match for Saron was a hard decision with a number of players playing well but the honour went to Josh Davies.

Saturday 14th February Tonna Under 8’s 0 Saron Under 8's  6

Probably one of the best displays of the season from the under 8's with some excellent passing and movement. There were some sublime touches from Sean, Ben, Carwyn & Dyfan - causing early panic in the Tonna defence. The pressure soon told with Carwyn and Sean scoring in the first half to make it 2-0 at half time. Carwyn got his second to make it 3-0 early in the second half, Sean then grabbed a further two to complete his hat trick. Ben scored the next to complete the scoring at 6-0. The only downside was a serious ankle injury suffered by Nathaniel following a brave tackle in the first half - he was taken to Morriston Hospital, and arrived home on crutches. All the boys and parents wish him a speedy recovery.

Saturday 14th February Bryn Rovers Under 9’s 1 Saron Under 9’s 3

This was going to be a very stern test for the youngsters of Saron, knowing that they were coming up against a team that had scored 11 goals the previous week. However, the boys were not going to be intimidated and they showed that they too could also be lethal in front of goal. Saron nearly opened the scoring in the first minute when Jac Price played an excellent ball down the line for Connor Walters.  The in-form winger cut in from the right and closed in on goal but he could not quite shake off the attention of several Rover defenders and was forced wide, his eventual cross was met by Osian Easton who's first time shot was well saved by the goalkeeper. Mid way through the first half the deadlock was broken, when Dylan Lewis released Iestyn Rees who took on and beat 2 defenders and calmly stroked the ball into the back of the net. This inspired Saron even more and continued to attack with both wingers terrorising the Rovers defence. Constant pressure brought about a second goal for Saron, Dylan laid the ball out to Dafydd Webb who’s flick forward found Man of the Match Iestyn who was now enjoying his new role of playing up front finished in style. Just before half time Cian Anderson produced an excellent save that he pushed past the post for a corner, the resulting kick caused panic in the box for Saron’s defence, thus resulting in a goal for the home side. The second half was a very energetic and high tempo contest with both sides testing the keepers, this was a match that dragged you to the edge of your seat and left you wondering which way it would go right until the final five minutes. It was in this final 5 minutes that the outcome was decided when leading goal scorer Connor scored Saron’s third. This was a great team performance by Saron especially when they had to do without Gavin Jones who just recently signed a contract with Swansea City, he'll be missing for the next six weeks or more after he stepped up from Swansea Development to their School of Excellence.

Saturday 14th February Saron United Under 11’s 2 Saron Under 11’s 3

This was a well-contested match from the kick-off. The game was played at a good pace and Saron opened the scoring after 5 minutes through Sam but Saron Utd equalised a minute later. Play flowed from end to end but Sam again hit the net on 11 minutes. This time the score-line stayed, as it was until 8 minutes into the second half when Utd again equalised. Again the game kept flowing back and forth until Sam again popped up to score his hat trick and the winning goal. Saron had to work hard to hold on to the lead though as Utd threw everything at them. Full marks to both teams for an enjoyable game of football; they were a credit to the club. Well done everyone.

Saturday 14th February Cwmaman Under 14's 2 Saron Under 14's 5

After weeks of bad weather a dry day saw a very entertaining game between two local teams. Saron started brightly when from a Gareth John Rees corner, Kieran Jones stabbed home his first of four after the Cwm defence could not clear. Saron were playing some neat football but a sweet strike from Jordan Brundrett who lobbed Saron keeper Ryan Lynch levelled the score. In the second half Sion Allen found Jones again who made a great strike to increase the score and he got his hat trick when the Cwmaman keeper could not clear his lines. A Cwmamman free kick saw Jake Webb blast through the Saron defence of Carl, Hugh, Dexter and Darren to make it 2-3.It was nip and tuck until Harry Brook again took advantage of a poor clearance and Kieran Jones got his fourth and Saron's fifth after good work from Steffan, Josh and Peter in midfield. Man of the Match for Saron was Kieran Jones who has now scored 20 goals in just 7 matches.

Saturday 14th Saron Under 16's 5 Bancosfelen Under 16's 3

After months of games called off due to bad weather Saron started this game in confident mood. Due to absences in the side Saron played with 10 men. The First half started off even with Bancosfelen using the extra man on the field to their advantage. However, Saron hit on the break and won a penalty, which Lloyd calmly slotted home. Half time saw Saron leading 1-0. The second half started with the defence of Jack, Scott, Steffan and Griff who did superbly well under pressure from the Bancosfelen attack. Saron got a second goal through Nathan who finished off a cracking volley. Matt scored the third with a great finish after superb work by Josh on the left wing. Saron's fourth goal came from good work down the right wing by Scott who caused havoc for the defence, which lead to the ball coming out to Matt who finished superbly for his second. Bancosfelen didn’t give up and scored their first and kept Saron's defence under pressure. Rhys did superbly in goal coming off his line whenever the ball had broken through the defence. Nathan then scored his second goal with a great finish after the ball broke through the Bancosfelen defence. However, Bancosfelen hit back well and scored two quick goals in the last five minutes, which caught saron by surprise. The game ended 5-3 in Saron’s favour, due to the great effort and commitment shown by the 10 players on the field. Saron travel to Wellfield next week in the league.

Saturday 21st February Saron Under 8s 2   Rhos Under 8’s 1

Saron deservedly came out as winners in an absorbing contest. Saron were playing some excellent football, with Carwyn and Sean testing the Rhos keeper early in the first half. The whole team were involved in some superb passing moves. Carwyn was superb in midfield covering every blade of grass, with Sean and Ben constantly posing problems for the Rhos defenders with their mazy runs. Ioan and Dafydd coped well against a very physical Rhos attack. The first half finished 0-0. Saron made some changes during half time, and they soon paid dividends - a clearance by the Rhos keeper fell to Sean who returned his kick straight back over his head to give Saron the lead. The second goal must surely be a contender for goal of the season - Carwyn again won the ball in midfield, Nat, Ben & Rhys D exchanged passes to make an opening for Sean, who cooly converted for his second goal. With the defence pushing up Rhos caught Saron on the break to make it 2-1. Nat came close to extending the lead, with his shot being cleared before it crossed the line. A tense end to the game saw Thomas put in numerous tackles and Garin pull off a few good saves. Saron's recent good form has seen them win 3 in a row, scoring 11 and conceding only 1.

Saturday 21st February Saron Under 9’s 3     Cwrt Herbert Blacks Under 9’s   0

Another top notch performance by an ever improving Saron outfit. It was Man of the Match Connor Walters who was ultimately the thorn in the opposition's side who found him unstoppable on the right wing. The first goal was scored after 10 minutes, when Aled Lewis found Connor inside his own half, who then ran for goal avoiding 3 tackles on the way before shooting past the keeper. After the restart both sides locked horns and provided an excellent spectacle which both sets of spectators enjoyed. However, it was Saron who found the back of the net once more, when some top class one touch football between Osian Easton and Connor created enough space and time for Iestyn Rees to rifle his shot past a despairing keeper. With time running out Cwrt Herbert pushed more players forward and nearly got onto the scoresheet themselves but for a great save by Cian Anderson, who's resulting goal kick set Connor free who crossed for Iestyn he then slotted the ball across to Dafydd Webb to make it a convincing 3-0 win for Saron.

Saturday 21st February Pontardawe Reds Under 11’s 4 Saron Under11’s 1.

The home team got off to a strong start with Saron struggling to get the ball off them. When they did get the ball they found it hard to make any ground with Ponty closing them down quickly. Saron had Harri to thank at this stage after pulling off some fantastic saves to stem the home attack. After 10 minutes Ponty took a deserved lead. This seamed to give Saron a boost and they soon equalised after Sam broke down the right and finished off well as he has done several times this season. From the restart Ponty attacked again and after a speculative lob the ball came off the crossbar onto a Ponty foot and was duly put in the back of the net. The second half started with Evan coming on in goal. Again the Saron goal came under pressure but Evan was up to the task with some fine stops and coming off his line well to deny Ponty. The pressure paid off after 10 minutes and Ponty scored their 3rd after a goalmouth scramble. 5 minutes later they sealed the game off when a corner was delivered into the box that was inch perfect for the home striker to get a powerful header which any keeper would have struggled to get to. A game in which Saron were outplayed by a very strong, well organised team.

Saturday 21st February Saron United Under 11’s 2 Neath Boys Club Whites 2

Saron found themselves under constant pressure from the relentless Neath attacks forcing them into playing counter-attacking football.  It was through one such attack that Saron got their noses in front with a sweetly struck goal from Tim Chapman. Neath continued their bombardment of Saron’s goal despite great displays from Rhodri & Robert in defence shots were still getting through.  This resulted in two goals in quick succession for Neath. In the second half the tables were turned and it was Saron producing the most shots on goal.  Eventually Saron broke through when Liam Jefferies headed in a Kieran Wilson long throw. Still, Neath fought hard but Sion Lloyd produced the save of the season which resulted in Saron earning a well-deserved draw.

Saturday 21st February Saron Under 14's 1  Cimla Under 14's 0

Saron started well in perfect conditions with Steffan Rees and Harry Brook controlling the midfield. Peter, Josh and Craig combined well to find Kieran Jones who made a fine pass and found Sion Allen to fire home. Saron played well for the rest of the first half with Dexter, Hugh, Carl and Darren strong in defence. In the second half Saron continued to press but Cimla came back into the game with Ryan Lynch in goal making some great saves. Man of the match went to Sion Allen and Steffan Rees who did not stop running throughout the game. Next week Saron entertain Briton Ferry.

Saturday 21st February Wellfield Under 16's 0 Saron Under 16's 6

Saron started this game in confident mood after their recent cup victory, which showed as they played neat football. The first goal came from Matt who finished a superb move off with a great finish. A few minutes later Matt scored his second with another good finish after good work by Scott in midfield. Half Time saw Saron 2-0. The second half started with the defence of Jack, Rhys, Steffan and Aled staying strong leaving Daniel with not much to do in goal. The third goal came from Lloyd corner, which was powerfully headed home by Rhys. Nathan then got in the scoring mood and scored a well-deserved goal. Matt then completed his hat trick with a superb solo run down the left, which was finished well. The final goal came from Scott who scored after good work by Griff and Josh down the right flank. Saron are away to Burry Port next week in a tough league encounter.

Saturday 28th February Lonlas Under 8’s 1 Saron Under 8's 3

Saron continued their run of unbeaten games with a workman like performance. Playing uphill in the first period, Saron's first attempt on goal was a shot by Nat that was well saved by the keeper. They didn't have to wait long however as Rhys (D) shot trickled over the line to make it 1-0. Rhys then turned provider crossing into the path of Sean for an easy tap in. Saron continued to create the openings and soon got their third, Sean knocking in a long shot. In the second period Saron seemed to take their foot of the accelerator, and their performance dipped from their recent excellent standards. A defensive comedy of errors led to Lonlas pulling one back, with the winger passing the ball into an empty net. Lonlas could not however breach the Saron defence again. Thomas was outstanding throughout at the back with his pace and covering tackles snubbing out any danger Lonlas posed.

Saturday 28th February Rhos Rovers Under 9’s 1    Saron Under 9’s   4

Saron travelled down the M4 to play against a rejuvenated Rhos outfit that hadn't lost a match since Xmas. Both teams started brightly but the tenacity of Dylan Lewis was denying the home side time and space in midfield, Alex Speed was posing problems up front and the ever improving Jac Price and Aled Lewis looked in masterful form in defence. The breakthrough came after 8 minutes when Iestyn Rees intercepted a Rhos pass and he quickly released Alex who raced through on goal and found the back of the net. Alex could easily have had a second 5 minutes later but the keeper produced a good save. With a few minutes remaining of the first half Rhos against the run of play equalised when their right-winger scored from the edge of the box. At halftime Saron made several changes and after the restart were virtually camped in Rhos' own half. Saron were now attacking at will and it wasn't long before Saron’s lead was restored when Dafydd Webb sent Iestyn clear to score. Minutes later and Saron were 3 goals to the good when Connor Walters raced down the wing his resulting cross was met by Dafydd and he gave the keeper no chance. Saron then for 4 minutes took their foot off the pedal and let Rhos back into the game, but they could not find a way past Man of the Match Cian Anderson who pulled off 3 saves that were top drawer which left both sets of spectators applauding. Saron put the match out of sight when in the final minutes a mix up in the home sides defence meant that both Iestyn and Connor managed to bundle the ball across the line for Saron’s 4th. This was yet again another impressive performance following on from last weeks 3-0 victory over Cwrt Herbert Blacks who some people regard as the best team in the League.

Saron United Under 11’s 5 Bryncoch Blues Under 11’s 4

With some slick, speedy passing moves Saron found themselves on top and these moves produced 2 finely taken goals from Ashleigh.  Bryncoch fought well and pulled a goal back just before half time. In the second half Saron again played great football and sailed into a 5.1 lead courtesy of Liam Jefferies (2) and Jordan Pavey.  Saron relaxed a little and Bryncoch took advantage pulling 3 goals back but ran out time before they could equalise.

Saturday 28th February Saron Under 11’s 8, Resolven Under 11’s 0.

Saron started this week with fire in their hearts. It was all the visitors, and the woodwork could do to stop the home side scoring while the Saron defence of Matthew and Nathan stood firm to all Resolven threw at them. After 10 minutes however Sam had a good shot which the keeper could only half clear and Stephen was there to finish it off. This was the start of the goals and after a good few minutes of pressure Sam passed in to Steve to finish off well again. On 16 minutes Evan picked the ball up and launched it towards the Resolven goal. Grant put it in the net after a rebounded shot off the bar. 2 minutes later Alex scored from a corner to make it 4 -nil at half time. Saron made some changes for the 2nd half. On came Josh and Jed in defence and Ethan and Lewis in midfield. Immediately Josh passed the ball up the left to Grant who duly crossed in for Alex to finish the move. This was followed by a couple of goals for Ethan to make it 7. Resolven then caught the home defence sleeping and managed to sneak a consolation goal before Sam popped up to get himself a well deserved goal on the stroke of full time. Had it not been for the woodwork and the efforts and bravery of the Resolven keeper Saron would no doubt have doubled their score.

Saturday 28th February Saron Under 14’s 3 Briton Ferry Under 14’s 0

Another good win for Saron with on fire Kieran Jones scoring another hat trick to seal a great season so far for the striker. Saron started well with several chances from Sion, Josh and Harry making the Ferry keeper made several good saves. The breakthrough came when a great ball down the right wing from Gareth Rees found Kieran Jones who struck a great shot that the keeper was left no chance with. Steffan Rees and Gareth Rees had tremendous games in midfield for Saron making numerous important tackles. Ferry had a few chances but Ryan Lynch in goal for Saron was always in control. Saron’s second goal came about when good work from Dexter Thomas at centre half found Kieran on the long ball and again he blasted his second leaving the keeper with no chance. In the second half it was all Saron with the defence of Carl, Darren and Hugh all playing well and dealing with any Ferry threat. The introduction of Connor and Ethan saw Saron get their third and Kieran Jones’s hat trick when after a long goal kick from Ryan Lynch he neatly lobbed the helpless Ferry keeper. Man of the Match award was shared by Kieran Jones, Steffan Rees and Gareth Rees. A great performance from the Team and next week Saron entertain the unbeaten Pontardawe at home.

Saturday 28th February Saron Under 15’s 3 Lonlas Under 15’s 2

Saron played their first home game of the season against a very physical Lonlas side. Both sides gave little away early on with a lot of hard tackles going in.  Lonlas took the lead after ten minutes when the centre back was caught in possession and the forward ran on to beat Aled Thomas from ten yards. Saron then lost midfielder Rhys Cann with a hip injury chasing back to clear a through ball, to be replaced by Josh Davies. Saron were second to the ball for most of the half but Nat Wilson fired just past the far upright after a good run. The Saron back four held firm with Rhys Evans particularly prominent. Half time came with the home team behind. The second half saw a different Saron, much quicker to the ball and using their pace up front. Nat Wilson, who had taken a heavy tackle early in the first half, was making inroads down the right and Nathan Lewis likewise downs the left. Joseph Davies, playing his first match up front, was put through with a fine pass from Owain Roberts, to put the ball wide of the advancing keeper. Lonlas regained the lead five minutes later, when this time the left back was caught in possession and despite Daniel Ellison at centre back gamely trying to catch up the ball finished in the net. Joseph Brooks replaced Rhydian Griffiths to slot in at left back. The home team again drove forward and Owain brought a save from the keeper. From a foul on Steffan Davies, the free kick from Nat caused problems in the defence and Gavin Thomas brought a save from the keeper. Josh Davies and Owain then brought further saves from the keeper. The Saron midfield were now competing much better and creating more chances. From a corner the ball ran loose to Joseph Davies and he tucked it away to bring Saron level again. The home rearguard gave nothing away, with Rhys and Daniel covering well and Aled Thomas did not have a save to make but confidently took the ball from any corners. Another Saron corner saw the ball fall to Nathan but he mishit his shot from ten yards. Owain was put clear down the left but scuffed his shot wide, then brought a good save at the near post. He wasn’t to be denied and when put through again, despite the defender pulling his shirt, put the shot wide of the keeper to win the match for Saron. This was a very hard fought encounter and after a poor first half, toughed it out against a hard Lonlas side. Saron’s man of the match was Joseph Davies, with a number of players giving a good account of themselves, particularly Rhys Evans and Nat Wilson.

Wednesday 4th March Saron Under 8's 8 Saron Colts 0.

Sean and Ben came to the rescue of the Under8's, both netting hat-ricks in the second half. The under 8's extended their unbeaten run to 5 games, but it was only after a much improved second half performance. The Colts defended admirably in the first half keeping the Under 8's down to a very limited number of chances. Thomas performed admirably in goals in the first half pulling off numerous good saves - the best of which was a superb one handed save from a shot rifled in by Ben. The Under 8's were disappointing, not playing the passing and moving football, which has been evident in recent games. The Under 8's made some changes at half time, putting on their strongest team - this soon paid dividends, with goals coming at regular intervals, Ben and Sean getting three each, with Carwyn and Rhys (D) getting the others.

Saturday 7th March Saron Colts 3 Pontardawe Whites Under 8's 0

Congratulations to the Colts on their first win of the season and their best performance so far. The team travelled to Pontardawe on Saturday 7th March to play against Pontardawe Whites. It was an impressive all-round performance from the whole team, resulting in Joe scoring 2 goals and Jack scoring the other. The midfield tackled well with some strong tackling coming from Aled and James, who were both supported by Joe, Jack and Dominic. The defence held firm holding the scoreline to 2-0 at half time with some fine saves by Tomos who was supported well by his defenders, Ethan, Jacob and Rhys.  The momentum continued into the second half resulting in the third goal being scored. The defence held tight once more as Pontardawe applied the pressure. Well-done boys!

Saturday 7th March Saron Under 8's 7   Ammanford Blacks Under 8’s 1

Saron totally outclassed Ammanford in every department, playing some excellent passing football in the process. The Under 8's extending their unbeaten run to 6 games - Scoring 29 in the process and conceding only 3. Saron went on the attack from the off with Sean shooting narrowly wide in the opening minutes, Ben then tried his luck with a shot shaving the post. Sean then set Ben free with an excellent pass but his fierce drive was well saved by the keeper. The opener was a pile driver from Carwyn, he then turned provider for the second with Sean latching on to a long throw and coolly slotting in the second. Sean got his second after some excellent closing down by Ben gave him his opportunity. Rhys (S) was quickest to react to the loose ball to slot home Saron's fourth, winning the best-celebrated goal award for the day!!! . The second half followed a similar pattern with Sean completing his hat-rick and Carwyn smashing in another long-range effort. Rhys (D) was next on the score sheet slotting in from close range, a well-deserved reward for some excellent wing play during the match. The defence was rarely troubled but any forays Ammanford had were snuffed out by Tom, Daf, Ioan and Dyfan. A number of changes followed which led to Ammanford scoring a late consolation goal. Garin came out of goals and nearly scored with a fine run, the keeper just beating him to the loose ball. Saron have another local derby next Saturday when they travel to Bryn Rovers.

Saturday 7th March Saron Under 11's   5    Saron Under 9’s   3

Owing to the failure of Cimla Rovers U9's to make an appearance on Saturday morning, the Under 11's kindly stayed on after their match to play the ever improving Under 9's. This turned out to be a good match and despite the fact that there was a 2-year age gap the U 9's gave an excellent account of themselves. The U 11's were bigger and stronger and were able to pass the ball greater distances making the U 9's work a lot harder. Despite this the U 9's chased everything down but eventually experience told with the U 11's moving into a 2-0 lead. Dafydd Evans pulled a goal back and Dylan Lewis was unlucky not to equalise when his penalty kick thundered off the crossbar. Just before halftime the U 11's got another goal. After the restart the U 9's continued to cause problems with their slick passing and counter attacking skills and this resulted in Iestyn Rees pulling one back for the U 9's, 2 further goals for the big boys gave them a 5-2 lead before Man of the Match Osian Easton reduced the arrears with a well taken goal. Big thanks to Tony Wilson and his players for playing against us so as not to disappoint the Under 9's. due to Cimlas absence.

Saturday 7th March Saron United Under 11’s 3 Glynneath Under 11’s 3

Both sides contributed to a pulsating game of football in which victory could have gone to either team. Saron hit the net first, against the run of play, after a fine passing move between Arwel Gravell and scorer Ashley Rees. Glynneath were not deterred and they scored two goals themselves in the first half to lead 2.1Much of the same in the second half as the two teams continually tested their respective goalkeepers.  Saron conceded another goal but never gave up.  Their patience and hard work was rewarded when their second goal came from a deflected shot and then Tomos Williams slotted home Tim Chapmans unselfish lay-off for the equaliser.

Saturday 7th March Penrhos Falcons Under 11’s 0 Saron Under 11’s 4.

Saron travelled to Penrhos this week for what they knew would be a tough game. Both teams were evenly matched in the first half with Saron coming closest to scoring. Saron’s defence did well to keep the home sides dangerous looking strikers at bay. The half ended in a nill – nill stalemate. The visitors came out for the second half with a change of attitude and stepped up a gear. Within 5 minutes Stevie opened the scoring and this gave Saron the extra bit of confidence they needed. Sam doubled the lead after 10 minutes and shortly after Steve got his second. Saron were now dominating the game and in full control when Josh got the fourth in a one sided half. A game of 2 halves for Saron who showed what they were really capable of.

Saturday 7th March Saron Under 14's 0 Pontardawe Under 14's 2

Saron were unlucky in this contest against the unbeaten Pontardawe as they dominated the first half with Sion Allen and Kieran Jones unable to finish off numerous goal scoring chances. Saron were in total control with Steffan Rees and Harry Brook tireless in the centre of midfield. Connor and Peter troubled the Ponty defence on the wings and Dexter and Hugh commanding at centre half. The first half ended all square but with Saron in control, and the second half continued in the same fashion with Darren and Carl strong in defence. Ponty took the lead from a penalty but Saron continued to be the dominant team with Ethan and Dewi playing their part setting up more chances for Kieran who hit he crossbar from a cross by Hugh. Ryan Lynch made a couple of excellent saves when Ponty did manage a few attacks but was generally untroubled. Ponty got their second just before the final whistle as Saron pushed players forward to get a point which could have been three. Man of the Match was shared by Dexter Thomas who was outstanding at centre half and Peter Pritchard who had a great all round display on the left side of midfield.

Saturday 14th March Bryn Rovers Under 8’s 1 Saron Under 8's  1

Saron extended their unbeaten run to 7 games, but were pushed all the way by a very combative Bryn side. It was a typical game of two halves, with Bryn having the majority of possession for the first half. There was an early scare for Saron when a lobbed shot went narrowly wide. A long ball into the Saron box was well volleyed in for the Bryn opener. Saron responded rapidly with Nat and Sean working an opening for Rhys (D) to tap in from close range. Garin was kept busy in the Saron goal pulling off a number of fine saves and clearances. Saron distribution was clearly lacking with the defence being out of position on numerous occasions The second half was a total contrast. Saron made a number of changes and they made a big difference. Dafydd and Tom were marking tighter and clearing their lines quicker. Ben was linking up well with the midfield and had a couple of mazy runs, one of which led to Sean striking the post. The pressure continued with numerous corners and last ditch clearances keeping Bryn in the game. There were also some very dubious refereeing decisions from a 'homer' referee which was not helping Saron's cause.

Saturday 14th March Saron Under 9's 0 Cimla United Under 9’s   0

An excellent football match watched by a large crowd were left to wander how many of these youngsters on show were destined for top flight senior football. This match had everything but goals. Tackles flew in and shots crept past the woodwork, but it was Cimla who at the final whistle would have been the happier team to get away with a draw. Every single player on the pitch made a significant contribution, which goes to prove that Saron now have the best players that they've ever had and who are playing as a team and not as individuals who never pass the ball. Man of the Match Ffion Morgan was outstanding in defence, not once missing a tackle.

Saturday 14th March Cwrt Herbert Blacks Under 11’s 2 Saron Under 11’s 3.

Saron travelled to Neath this week with a full squad available. Both teams started well but Saron broke the deadlock after 10 minutes when Evan managed to bounce the ball over the home keepers head from his own area. Cwrt Herbert pulled one back 5 minutes later in an even first half. Saron made many changes for the second half bringing on all the subs. The home side took advantage of this at the beginning of the half taking the lead for the first time. Saron pulled their game together and soon settled down with Grant breaking away from a Cwrt corner and laying Sam on for a well taken goal. Grant got his own goal 4 minutes later after another Saron breakaway from defence. The home side put the visitors under a lot of pressure in the last quarter of the game and could have snatched an equaliser with a cracker that was heading for the top corner had Nathan not got his head in the way. Man of the match this week went to Sam for an outstanding contribution all over the field.

Saturday 14th March Saron United Under 11 1 Cimla United Under 11’s 0

The strong winds on Cimla Hill were making it difficult for both teams to get any sort of rhythm going.  Saron played well in patches but relied on their goalkeeper Seon Lloyd and defenders Rhys Price, Will Treharne & Rhodri Jones to stem the flow of Cimlas attacks. Saron did create scoring chances but it seemed this game was destined to be a goalless draw.  That was until Jordan Pavey slotted home a through ball from Robert Smith. Saron then put in a spirited battling performance and wound up as worthy winners.

Saturday 14th March Saron Under 12’s 3 Penrhos Under 12s 3

This was the first point saron had gained since October last year a change in attitude and formation might have been the key for saron who passed the ball superbly throughout despite the heavy conditions Penrhos had a couple of half chances in the first 10 minutes but some great defending and some outstanding goal keeping from saron denied them slowly Saron’s passing was starting to open Penrhos up with Corey heading a great cross from Cameron only to be denied by the keeper, several chances later Iwan Norrie was through on goal and put saron ahead 1-0 at half time. Second half saw Saron carry on in the same vein 5 minutes into the 2nd half it was Norrie again doubling Saron's score 2-0 Penrhos resorted to using the long ball utilising their pace running onto it and got their reward 2-1 midway through the half and in a frantic last 15 minutes saw Saron lose their way slightly giving Penrhos a chance 2-2 but it was Norrie again bagging his and Saron’s third 3-2 but Norrie had taken a knock just after scoring and had to go off in the last 2 minutes of the match Penrhos scored a scrappy equaliser 3-3 at the end ,a great deal of credit goes to the Saron youngsters who proved what they can do when they play football and enjoy themselves.

Saturday 14th March Cimla Under 14's 0 Saron Under 14's 4

Despite a depleted squad Saron's goal machine Kieran Jones scored yet another hat trick to set up this win for Saron. Playing conditions were difficult with a strong wind against Saron in the first half but Ethan Walters was able to spread the ball wide from midfield  to find Kieran who broke free along the left wing to beat three Cimla defenders before blasting past the Cimla keeper. Cimla kept pressing and Steffan Rees, Carl Morris and Dewi Liiv worked tirelessly in defence tackling strongly to limit the Cimla attacks. Thankfully Saron now started the second half with the strong wind now behind them and Connor Thomas on the right wing was able to beat his marker to make a great cross to the far post where Kieran was again superbly placed to head home. Saron were playing the conditions well and from one of numerous corners the ball broke for Hugh Conway to get his first goal for Saron in Junior football when he powerfully volleyed home from inside the penalty area. Darren Warnes played very well in midfield for Saron not his regular position. Sion Allen worked tirelessly alone up front for Saron and at the other end Ryan Lynch again was safe and reliable. Kieran scored his third when again he struck a fierce drive past the Cimla keeper.

Saturday 21st March Saron Under 8's 5 Clydach Cougars Under 8’s 1

A disappointing turnout from Clydach led to Nat and Connor playing for them in the first half. Saron were dominant from the off, the first goal came from a long Carwyn throw with Sean finishing well to open the scoring. Ben linked up well with Sean for him to get his second of the game. Carwyn was next on the score sheet with a well- hit shot from outside the box. Ben scored the fourth following a well-taken Carwyn corner. With the game all over by half time, Saron changed things around with players playing out of position. Sean and Carwyn played for Clydach. The second half was a closer affair with Clydach pulling one back. Dafydd and Ioan played well in defence covering and tackling well. Connor added Saron's fifth goal to complete the scoring. That's 8 games unbeaten now for Saron, with a visit to Ponty whites next on the fixture list.

Saturday 21st March Saron Juniors Under 10’s 0 Rhos Rovers Under 10’s 3

Saron started this match off relatively slow and still looked asleep at some parts in the first half.  Rhos noticed this and took advantage with a long-range effort which the striker got a foot onto the long range effort to place it in the corner of the net.  This seemed to have woken a few players up and kept Saron in the game with Calem pulling off some fine saves to keep them in the game.  Rhos then went on to bully the midfield and duly dominated, their reward came a few minutes later when they scored a second after a scrappy defence.  As soon as the second half started Saron looked more awake with Jac Phillips and Jordan putting in some big crucial tackles.  Lewis then came on and impressed in the midfield teeing up with Kieran Waters, Saron then started to produce the football that has come natural to them this season.  But a quick break saw Rhos grab a third when a shot beat Calem at his near post.  Tom Brook can count himself un- lucky not to have had a late goal but for some great Rhos defending.  Man of the match this week goes to Goal keeper Calem for playing outstanding and pulling off some fine saves to keep Saron in the game.

Saturday 21st March Saron Under 11’s 4 Giants Grave Under 11’s 2.

The home side started strongly this week with Sam getting the first in the first 2 minutes. 5 minutes later Sam doubled the lead. This seamed to spur the visitors into life as the rest of the half saw Saron having to defend their lead which Giants Grave managed to halve before the fiercely contested half ended. Saron came out the second half in much the same mood as the first and it took Sam just 2 minutes to hit his third. That’s how it stayed for the rest of the 2nd half. The game flowed from end to end with both team’s defences and goalkeepers having to work hard. Then Grave broke away and scored with 4 minutes remaining. 3-2. It was nail-biting times for the home support until Grant got Saron’s fourth with 1 minute left. This was a hard fought and well deserved win for Saron who were the better team on the day. Man of the match this week was Stevie who worked hard in midfield the whole game.

Saturday 21st March Saron Under 14's 4 Cwmamman Under 14's 3

Saron started well in this local encounter when Sion Allen beat the Cwm defender to slot the ball home. Saron were in control for most of the first half with Steffan Rees and Dexter Thomas running the midfield. A well-taken free kick from Connor Thomas found Kieran Jones who scored his first of three when he latched on to the ball that Cwmamman keeper could not hold. In very warm conditions Cwmamman started the second half attacking and Ryan Lynch made several good saves. Kieran Jones then broke free again to blast past the keeper to make the game safe for Saron. Cwmaman scored from a shot that was deflected by the Saron defence and left Ryan in goal helpless. Cwmaman to their credit got another goal back when Luke Rees finished well. That man Kieran Jones got yet another hat trick when he beat the Cwmamman defence and powered his shot home. Jordan Bundrett got a late consolation for Cwmaman. Man of the Match for Saron was Dexter Thomas who gave a great all round skilful performance.

Pontardawe Whites Under 8’s 0 Saron Under 8's   5

Saron extended their unbeaten run to 9 games, with a dominant display from start to finish. Sean was first on the score sheet with neat finish from close range, this following Ben cleverly beating two Ponty defenders. Ben was again provider for Rhys (D), beating his man and laying the ball off well - unfortunately Rhys (D) shot went narrowly wide. Carwyn was bossing the centre of the park, first to all the loose balls and putting in some great headers. Rhys (D) was next to attack down the flank, beating his man and putting in a superb cross for Rhys (S) to get the faintest of touches to make it 2-0 at the interval. Saron continued where they left off, virtually encamped in Ponty's half. The third goal came as a result of a quickly taken Carwyn corner, with Sean drilling in a long-range effort. Carwyn was unlucky with a superb effort in the second half coming back off the crossbar. The fourth goal came from Nat, converting well from the edge of the area, following a neat layoff from Sean. Ben was again the provider for the fifth, controlling the ball well, beating his man, and passing into Sean's path for him to complete his hatrick. Thomas was very unlucky not to score in the dying minutes with his effort shaving the post. The Ponty keeper pulled off numerous good saves to keep the score down. Garin, Ioan & Dafydd dealt with any rare Ponty attacks and will surely be tested more with games coming up against Cimla and Bryncoch.

Saron looked the hungrier team than the two from the off, as Scott Bundfuss had two cracking shots saved by the Lonlas keeper early on in the game.  On a slope pitch and wind against them it seemed like Saron had it all to do in the first half.  Calem Stevens had little to do in the first half but pulled off one great save to keep Saron in the game.  With a midfield trio of Kieran Waters, Steven Perry, and Scott Bunfuss Saron dominated the first half with eventually saw a goal as Kieran was clean through on goal and buried the chance in the bottom corner.  This seemed to have fired him up and he got his second by blasting the ball into the net from a superb corner from Jac Phillips.  He was unlucky not to have had a hat trick minutes later when a Lonlas defender thought the only way of stopping the on fire midfielder was to drag him down by his shirt.  The ball then broke its way through to Tom Brook who took it to one side and nested it in the opposite corner of the net.  This had given Saron every confidence and you could see it in some of the football being played. Saron then came out in the second half and played down hill with a lot of running to do.  Jed Danter made some crucial runs from left back to give Saron some more options on the flanks.  Lonlas had changed their keeper at half time and he seemed determined not to let Kieran get his hat trick as he was stopping everything the midfielder threw at him.  Lonlas then went on a break and got a goal back by striking a ferocious strike which saw the goal come off the ground. Steven Perry can count himself unlucky not have had a goal as he went searching for one, but Saron then got their fourth.  Another corner from Jac Phillips and the first touch for Tom Brook who had just come back on after being substituted saw the little striker turn and unleash a right footed half volley into the top corner.  This then fired up both Tom Brook and Kieran Waters as to see who would get the first hat trick.  Although it never came Saron deserved the win and played superbly.  The man of the match this week was a hard decision but was in the end split between Tom Brook and Kieran Waters.

Saron Under 11’s 1 Cwrt Herbert Blacks Under 11’s  2

On a very windy morning, the home side were up against a well-organised side. It was end-to-end stuff with Saron getting the better of the early exchanges but the visitors took the lead on 12 minutes from a well-worked throw-in. The half continued the same and Cwrt Herbert managed to hold on to the lead. Within 2 minutes of the re-start, Sam got the equaliser for Saron. Again the home side had the better of the game but could not finish their chances. It was the visitors that finished their chance with 5 minutes left to take the lead 2 – 1. This led to a frantic last 5 mins with Cwrt throwing every player into defence to preserve the lead. Saron did everything except score during this period. The better side on the day lost having played some good football but failing to put away the chances. Man of the match this week went to Ethan.

Briton Ferry Under 14's 1 Saron Under 14's 2

Saron started slowly in the first half with Steffan Rees and Harry Brook working hard in midfield. Briton Ferry had several chances that were well saved by Ryan Lynch in goal. Ion and Connor had several good chances but Saron could not find a break through. Ferry took the lead at the end of the first half when the Saron defence of Dexter, Hugh, Carl and Darren could not clear from a corner. The second half was a much better performance by Saron with Dewi and Steffan taking control of midfield and setting up Ethan Walters who blasted a well taken shot past the Ferry keeper. Ryan in goal made a tremendous save when the Ferry striker was through on goal but it was all Saron now and Kieran Jones had numerous chances before he took a great penalty to win the game for Saron.

Bancffosfelen Under 16's 2 Saron Under 16's 7

Saron travelled to Bancffosfelen looking for a motivating win to take into the upcoming local derby. The first 10 minutes of the game were very scrappy until Scott Northover chipped a ball through for Scott Vobe to fire past the keeper from long range for a superb goal. Bancffosfelen were determined to hit back and got an equaliser a few minutes later. Saron's defence of Jack, Aled, Joseff and Steffan were solid and helped set up Matt Warnes to score his first of the day. Saron's third came from Nathan Spowart who fired into the bottom corner with a fierce strike. Bancffosfelen were determined to hit back but Ben Evans in goal was strong and did superb when called upon. Half time saw Saron 3 - 1 up and in confident mood. The second half started well for Saron when Rhys Williams headed home from Lloyds corner. Lloyd Bevan then got his name on the score sheet when he finished a well-taken penalty. Bancffosfelen then won a penalty for themselves, which was placed in the bottom corner. Despite being 5 - 2 up Saron didn't stop attacking and won another penalty, which Lloyd fired home. Saron's final goal came from good play by Josh and Rhys, which set up Matt to score his second. Saron play local rivals Ammanford during the week.

Wednesday 1st April Pontardawe Whites Under 15’s 3   Saron Under 15’s 2

Saron travelled to their last away match of the season against highflying Ponty Whites. A defensive mistake gave Pontardawe the lead after three minutes. Saron struck back ten minutes later when a pass over the top by Ben Jones put Owain Roberts in on goal and he rifled his shot beyond the keeper. He repeated the dose minutes later; this time the supplier was Nat Wilson. Aled in the Saron goal made a good save as Ponty replied. The back four for Saron of Daniel, Josh Cranfield, Rhys Evans and Steffan was giving nothing away as Saron poured forward. Owain hit the bar and Josh Davies, Ben and Nat went close. Pontardawe equalised when the Saron centre backs went walkabout leaving the centre forward unmarked and he finished low in the corner giving Aled no chance. Half time honours even. Pontardawe scored early in the second half when poor tackling out on the right allowed a cross, which was finished well. Gavin Thomas and Josh Davies in the centre midfield worked tirelessly and Nathan Lewis and Nat took Ponty on down the flanks. There were a number of close calls at both ends but Pontardawe held Saron out. A close match, which Saron deserved to get something from, and the coaches awarded man of the match to the whole team.

Saturday 4th April Saron Under 8’s 3   Cimla Blues Under 8’s 0.

Another win, another clean sheet, and another excellent performance ... The unbeaten run continues, now up to 10 games. Saron dominated territory and possession from start to finish. With Carwyn commanding midfield again, Saron were always dangerous with Sean and Ben making some early snipping runs. The first clear chance fell to Ben; he beat his man and was unlucky to see his shot rebound back off the post. Saron did not have long to wait however with Sean excellently scoring with a bicycle kick from the edge of the box. Saron continued to dominate but could not find a way through a resolute Cimla defence. When Cimla did break the shackles Ioan and Dyfan cleared up any loose balls - which were well marshaled by Daf at the back. The second period began in similar fashion, and Saron extended their lead early on. Ben and Sean battled well in midfield, Carwyn sent forward a long ball which was cleverly knocked on by Connor into Sean's path to make it 2-0. The killer goal came minutes from the end, Cimla were trying to get back into the game - the ball broke to Rhys (S) who went on an excellent run and fed Sean to complete the scoring at 3-0. Next week the Under 8's visit Bryncoch, where their unbeaten run will be severely tested.

Saturday 4th April Ponty Whites Under 11 0 Saron Under 11’s 2

Saron came out fighting this week after travelling to ‘the rec’ in Ponty. The game started very close with a big and physical home side using their size. Saron held it together though with the defensive trio of Owain, Matthew and Nathan snuffing out the home attack and Harri in goal taking care of anything that did sneak through very well. The midfielders, Ethan and Stevie linked well with Grant and Sam up front and it was one of those links that set up the opening goal when Ethan broke down the left wing and crossed in a cracker for Steve to finish. It was more of the same in the second half after Josh and Lewis came on in defence, Evan in goal and Alex in midfield. The same pressure paid off again for Saron when Steve put one in the corner of the Ponty net after another breakaway. It was end to end after this but Ponty were no match for the smaller Saron side who totally outplayed them. Man of the match this week was given to the whole defence who stopped the home side in their tracks.

Saturday 4th April Saron Under 14's 5   Sunnybank Under 14's 2

Another good win for Saron started when Sion set up Kieran Jones for a left footed shot that beat the keeper on his near post. Saron were in control of midfield with Ethan, Harry and Darren combining well to allow Kieran to get his second when he blasted the ball home after the Sunnybank defence could not clear. Steffan, Hugh and Carl were very comfortable in defence for Saron even when the Sunnybank attack created a few chances of their own. Saron’s third and Kieran Jones hat trick came about after a storming run by Dewi Liiv set him up to chip the keeper. Kieran Jones got his fourth when a terrific back heal by Connor allowed him to break through and drive the ball home. The second half was business as usual when a long goal kick from Ryan Lynch was spread wide by Peter who found Kieran who crossed for Connor Thomas to head home. Sunnybank got a couple of consolation goals back but it was all too late. Man of the Match for Saron was shared by Kieran, Steffan and Dewi

Saturday 4th April Saron Under 15’s 4  Giants Grave  Under 15’s  0

The players put the disappointment of the midweek loss behind them when Giants Grave were the visitors to Saron. The visitors were very physical in the tackle but the Saron boys held their ground. Ben Jones went close twice for Saron, but the home side took the lead after ten minutes when Nat Wilson floated a twenty-five yard free kick over the keeper just under the bar. The Giants Grave number ten, Drew Beck was a handful for the Saron back four but Rhys Evans and Daniel held him out. The Giants number nine was sent off after twenty-five minutes for violent play after a double-footed tackle on Josh Davies. The visitors pushed forward after this and put Saron under pressure. Beck chipped Aled Thomas in goal but his effort bounced off the bar. Rhys Evans then made a timely tackle with the same player through. Nat Wilson, Ben Jones and Owain Roberts were always looking for the ball and Nathan Lewis used his pace to unsteady the defence. Steffan and Josh Cranfield cleared their lines well and Gavin and Josh Davies in midfield were in the thick of the action. Saron brought on Joseph Davies, Rhydian Griffiths and Joe Brooks in the second period and they knitted in well. In the second period Saron went up a gear and Nat Wilson scored the goal of the match. His pace took him clear down the wing and although fouled twice managed to keep his feet and fired a left foot shot into the top far corner.  Soon after Josh Davies made a run down the right and chipped the ball into the far corner for a fine goal. Giants were still trying hard and Beck again had a chance in the box but tried to make too sure and was tackled by Daniel. Ben Jones made a run down the right and his cross across goal should have been converted by Nathan, then Owain brought a save from the keeper when put clear. Saron welcomed Rhys Cann back after five weeks out with injury and he put Joseph Davies clear and although the keeper saved he tucked away the rebound to send Saron home happy. Man of the match for Saron was Nat Wilson.

Wednesday 8th April Saron Under 16's 3 Llandovery Under 16's 3

Saron started this game in confident mood against Section leaders Llandovery and scored early when Rhys Williams got onto a through ball by Scott. Llandovery then hit back with a goal themselves until Saron won a penalty which was calmly slotted home by Lloyd Bevan. Saron's third came from a superb Matt Warnes corner which was powerfully headed home by Rhys. Llandovery then hit back with 2 goals to even the game up. Half-time the scores were tied. The Second Half started with the defence of Jack, Joseff, Aled and Scott staying strong and making sure Llandovery did not take the lead. Steffan Howells in goal did outstanding throughout the game and provided a Saron's attack of Nathan, Liam, Matt and Scott were constantly dangerous but were unable to find the winning goal a man of the Match performance in goal. Saron's attack of Nathan, Liam, Matt and Scott were constantly dangerous but were unable to find the winning goal. Saron played superbly in this game and deserved more than a point.

Saturday 11th April Bryncoch Under 8’s 3 Saron Under 8's 1.

The Under 8's long unbeaten run finally came to an end; the result however does not reflect the game. Saron competed for long periods and had the greater share of possession and territory. Rhys (D) came close early on with his shot just going over the cross bar. Saron were undone by two very soft goals however. The first was a long free kick into the box, which took a deflection off an attacker, the defence stood still as the ball trickled into the corner of the net. The second was a long-range effort, which Garin could not keep out. Saron kept on plugging away and Carwyn came closest to pulling a goal back with a pile driver well saved by the keeper. The second half followed a similar pattern with Saron continuing to have the majority of the possession but not being able to make it count. Saron did pull one back through Sean, but Bryncoch hit back instantly with another mistake proving costly - making it 3-1. Carwyn again came close with another shot well saved by the keeper. An excellent effort by all players involved and on another day the result would surely have gone Saron's way.

Saturday 11th April Saron Under 16's 7 Carmarthen Under 16's 5

After a good result against Llandovery midweek Saron started superbly well and got an early goal after good play by Matt who set-up Rhys Williams to score his first of the day. Lloyd Bevan scored his first penalty of the day by placing the ball beautifully into the corner. Nathan Spowart then scored a cracking goal after good play by Scott Northover. Carmarthen hit back after a rare attack but Saron kept attacking and Rhys scored his second goal of the day after good play by Jack and Aled in defence. Scott Vobe then scored a superb goal after Joseff played a through ball, which Scott buried with a fierce strike. Carmarthen then hit back after a rare attack. Half Time Saron were leading 5-2. The Second half started with Carmarthen looking to get back into the game. As Saron went down to ten men, Carmarthen scored two quick goals. Carmarthen looked strong until Josh' goal kick was well controlled by Steffan who played a great ball through to Matt Warnes who finished beautifully. Carmarthen got another towards the end of the game as they tried to salvage a point. However, Saron got their 7th and final goal after Nathan won a penalty, which Lloyd once again scored. Saron play Garden Village home next week.

Tuesday 7th April Saron Under 15’s 2 Cwmaman  0

This was Cwmaman’s last game of the season and just as their first game of the season, a local derby against Saron. The early exchanges were very tentative with both sides testing each other and it did not seem like a local derby. However both sides warmed to the task. Ben Jones and Nat Wilson made good runs down the right but their crosses were too near the keeper. Rhys Evans and Daniel Ellison were positive in the tackle at centre back and Joseph and Rhydian kept a close watch on the wingers. Nathan Lewis caused the Cwmaman defence problems with his pace on the left and Rhys Cann, back from injury, Gavin Thomas and Josh Davies were chasing everthing down in midfield. The match swung to and fro with neither side giving the keepers much to save and the defences both unyielding. Nat made one good run down the right and cut in but his shot found the side netting. Cwm replied likewise but shot wide. Nathan then hit a snapshot just over. In the last quarter Cwmaman pushed men forward looking for the win to keep them in second position in the league but Gavin , Rhys and Josh again covered every blade of grass to help their defence. Cwm left themselves short at the back and Saron broke away and Ben Jones scored four minutes from time to put Saron in front and repeated the feat two minutes later to break Cwm hearts. They didn’t give up but every Saron tackle was cheered by the players  and they ran out winners to avenge the defeat earlier in the season. The match was excellently refereed by Jesse Lewis, keeping the game flowing. Both sides deserved praise for the effort and sportsmanship shown. Man of the match for Saron was shared by Rhys Evans and Nathan Lewis but there were a number of players in contention, particularly the midfield four.

Thursday 16th April Neath Boys Club Blacks 2 Saron Under 11’s 3

The Blacks started the game strongly and went ahead after 5 minutes. This goal woke Saron up and it was end to end with Saron more than holding their own. On the stroke of half time Sam got a well deserved equaliser from a free kick on the edge of the area. Sam got his second 5 minutes into the second half from another dead ball to put the visitors ahead. A little later Grant got the ball in midfield and broke away to score a cracker of a solo effort which the keeper had no chance of reaching. NBC Blacks got their second with a couple of minutes to go after some slack marking by the Saron defence. Final score 3 – 2 to Saron, deserved winners.

Saturday 18th April Saron Under 8's 7  Cwmamman Under 8’s 0

Saron brought the season to a close in fine style with another trouncing of their local rivals. Saron dominated from start to finish, playing some excellent passing football. Carwyn opened the scoring with a powerful shot from long range, this was quickly followed by another long range effort by Sean. Saron continued to create openings with Ben and Sean going close to increasing the lead. An excellent passing move led to Saron's third before half time with Rhys(D) tapping in from close range. The second half followed a similar pattern with Saron creating chance after chance. The first one was converted by Nat with a superb knee volley from close range !!!. Saron's fifth was a swift counter attack finished off by Sean. The goal of the match followed next, Cwmamman thought they had cleared a corner - the ball fell to Dyfan who unleashed a thunderbolt into the roof of the net. The final goal was scored by Sean, completing yet another hat rick. Superb team effort with the whole team contributing, bringing a successful season to a close.

Saturday 18th April Bryncoch Yellows Under 10’s 0 Saron Under 10’s 3

They say you keep the best performance for last and this was clearly the case as Saron under tens were unstoppable.  From the kick between Tom Brook and Kieran Waters who dribbled the ball past all the Bryncoch players and shot the ball the wrong side of the post. Saron then knew what was to come and duly delivered with a great attacking play along with a solid defensive play.  The midfield trio of Kieran, Steven, and Scott played some intelligent passing play along with the threat of Tom Brook upfront.  Saron were unlucky not to be a few goals up at half time with some long range efforts just going the wrong side of the post. Tom Brook tried a spectacular half volley from a long range effort which the keeper tipped on to the cross bar for a fine save.  Jac Phillips then took the corner when the ball fell kindly for Jordan Thomason to volley into the goal at a ferocious strike. Saron then cooled down after half time and came out again firing but still couldn’t find the second goal, the defence trio of Jordan, Jac, and Jed didn’t put a foot wrong all game but the Bryncoch Yellows striker found his way through and forced a fine save from Calem. With changes been made all over the park Saron then went on and deservedly found their second when Steven smashed home from close range.  This then seemed to give Saron the extra spark as Jac Phillips then tried a long range effort which went wide but found Calem upfront who controlled superbly and finished.  Saron then saw the match out to the end as the three boys each grabbed their first goals for the club.  Man of the match went to the whole team this week as not one of them put a foot wrong and played superbly.

U14's Plate Final : 12/5/2009 at Cwm Wanderers FC

Saron Under 14's  6    Sunnybank Under14's 1

Saron started this cup final encounter in good form and it took only five minutes to open the scoring when captain Steffan Rees fired a shot into the top left hand corner giving the keeper no chance. Saron were against the wind in the first half and came under pressure when despite good defending from Dexter, Hugh and Dewi the ball broke for Sunnybank to equalise. After a spell of pressure from Sunnybank Saron won a succession of corners from which Carl Morris scored his first goal all season when he blasted a shot past the keeper after the Sunny bank defence did not clear. Connor Thomas made it three after a fine run down the right wing saw him shoot to give the keeper no chance. At half time Saron had the wind behind them and started to apply real pressure from Harry, Kieran and Sion up front. Connor broke once again and after good play with Ethan scored his second and Saron's fourth. Sunnybank tried to compete but Saron were stronger in every position and Ryan Lynch was virtually untroubled in goal. Connor scored another great goal to get his hat trick after being set up well by Peter and Darren. Joshua Jordan came on after a long enforced absence which was great to see and played his part very well. Steffan Rees put the icing on the cake when he scored and outstanding sixth for Saron and his second with a forty yard blast that flew into the net, By now it was all over and Saron had retained the Cup they won last year. Man of the Match for Saron was shared by hat trick hero Connor Thomas and Peter Pritchard who was outstanding from start to finish. Coaches James and Sean would like to thank all the players for their efforts this season and look forward to the tournament in St Clears in June and presentation night on June 20th.Well done boys!!
